SpecOp9 0 Posted January 16, 2004 well, as crappy as it may sound for me, I won't be around the wonderful OFP any much longer. Soon I'll be heading to college and simply wont have the time for games and stuff. Also Flashpoint has somewhat gotten dull for me, but that does'nt stop me from posting here on teh forums, because talking to great people like you will never get boring. Thanks everybody, I wish you all luck and hope to see you in the future with OFP2.

Of course, you notice certain things when you're sober ("Hey, why are the explosions green?").
Gadger 0 Posted January 16, 2004 I'm at college now, average diploma student does 16 hours a week of lectures and tutorials and such, you'll find ya shud have just as much time for ofp
canukausiuka 1 Posted January 16, 2004 I am almost 100% sure I have more time for OFP now than I did in high school. Only drawback is now I have to play on a laptop (which overheats if I play too long). So trust us, you'll still be able to play all you want

Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted January 16, 2004 no time for OFP while on college    BLAH! I'm in college and I have plenty of time! I make time for OFP. Ony prob is that from february till june I will join the navy for a trainee post and I guess they won't have OFP there... but I'll be at home in the weekends *phew*  But good luck to you with college! It's a good thing that you decide that school comes first!
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted January 16, 2004 So before you go, you must summarise what you have learned from OFP and contributing to such an international forum. I tell you what you should have learned and how to summarise it. The best is always to come forward with a little anecdote. (in this case it is from the german Erich Born, son of the famous physician Max Born) Last month a world survey  was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: "would you please give your honest opinion on solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world". Unfortunately this survey turned out to be a complete failure... In Africa they didnt know what food meant In Eastern europe they didnt know what honnest meant In Western europe they didnt know what shortage meant In china they didnt know what opinion meant In the middle East they didnt know what solution meant In South america they didnt know what please meant And in the US they didnt want to know what the rest of the world meant That pretty much summarises all nations having contributed to this forum. Cheers and enjoy college
Pipski 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Plus, you'll get to share a house with people who also like OFP (if you pick `em carefully), split the cost of a 2MB connection with them and put everyone's PC on a LAN. Or, if you're really lucky, you'll go to a college that allows student residences to piggyback on their T1. Just make sure you don't spend too much time playing OFP instead of studying (f*** up now and you will regret it for a very long time) and socialising (the friends you make next will be the ones you still know when you're sixty). denoir 0 Posted January 17, 2004 Well, it's a bit different here in Sweden. First, all universites are free. Second, students are generally financed by the state (50% grant, 50% loan). You later pay back the loan relative your salary (5% of your salary each month). The overall sum is modest - about 80k euros per year. You can get it max for six years. Also, you have to take a number of credits each year (you have to pass 3/4 of your exams). So, the economic situation of the student doesn't impact the amount of free time you have. It depends more on what you are studying.
Acecombat 0 Posted January 17, 2004 You later pay back the loan relative your salary (5% of your salary each month). Thats very nice IMO But on question what does the state do if the kid goes out of the country for a job? Does he still pays back ?

denoir 0 Posted January 17, 2004 Sorry, I meant 8,000 euros Ten months x 800 euros and two months during the summer without pay. (tax free of course) The bad part is that the sum has been constant since the early '70s, while the prices have since then risen by something like 400%. Back then, you had a really solid income if you were a student. [b said: Quote[/b] ]But on question what does the state do if the kid goes out of the country for a job? Does he still pays back ? If you pay taxes within the EU, then yes. Otherwise it's put on hold until you return. Anyhow, I'll be glad to get a real salary soon. I'll have my MSc (in electrical engineering) by june or july. Average entry salary for engineers with a master's are around 30-40k euros, so it will be a nice change.

toadlife 3 Posted January 17, 2004 It not socialized like that here. With State schools, the tuition is heavily subsidized by the government compared with private universities, but you're completely on your own with books - which seems to be half the cost of school. My wife's BA at Fresno State has left us with just under $20,000 in student loans to pay off. The rest (probably around $10,000) , I payed for out of pocket. She did her first two years at a community college, which saved us TONS of money - otherwise the debt would probably be around <s>$30,000</s> err, $40,000. blackdog~ 0 Posted January 17, 2004 Community colleges after you get out of high school are probably the way to go. Not only do they prepare you for college, but they can help you get a better job to pay for it. Edit: Went a bit offtopic here ) I'll be leaving as soon as I get 5 warning boxes.
