Addon makers bassicaly. Stealing other peoples work is not "ok" as it would appear allot of people here think it is. The moment it becomes "ok" I think you will lose allot of addon makers. Pbb all.

However, I disagree on some ppl's statements that stealing textures should be overlooked. It shouldnt, but im sure martin didnt steal them, he always leaves credits where due. If on the other hand he wouldnt've then it counts as serious misconduct, and if it were GalComT in his place right now, he would be nothing but ashes cuz of all the flame.

I'm not happy to see him leave, but if he can't handle the critics that come with releasing addons he should indeed quit. Whenever you release an addon there are allways a few people who will start bashing the addon.

I personally have a rule for posting critics; If I can't post anything constructive I don't post a thing. An addonmaker puts a lot of time in an addon and he really likes what he made. Bashing him after he did all this hard work is something I just can't do.

right on! I know what addon making means and how much work it takes. When you do the stuff yourself you will have a different view on other peoples work. I'm sure that if someone would release a retextured blackhawk it will get bashed into hell and they will say that the BAS blackhawks are way better. While in the old days we were extremely happy with the TJP DAP (black retexured blackhawk). Those guys are now BAS. We all have to start somewhere.

However, when you take things from an individual such as you Konyak, or Marfy... then it gets personal. All you get is the reward of people enjoying and loving your addon.

We have a saying where i am from "Its easy to be generous with other people's money". Microsoft invested time, effort and there by money in making that skin. By installing FS2004 you agree to a license agreement which must have stated clearly that the end user is not allow to spread those files or to use them in anything unrelated as an OFP addon. Try and make it seem right what you will, it is breaking a law and it is not nice. Ask for permission before using this, you may get a surprise.

Didn't this come up once before? Personally I love all of Martins addons but I won't beg him to stay.

Nor do I really, really care. It's just sad to see him go because of thinking that folk didn't like his addons. In my opinion the addon maker's should do this for their own enjoyment and their own will to play with the stuff they make. Other people liking it should come in second place.

The addons we recive are blessings from their makers, not rights.

First, I'd like to congratulate Martin on this great plane, it's a joy to fly and watch in OFP. While he deserves praise for this work, many have pointed out that he has used textures from MS-2004. While this seems to be the case, what is interesting is the community´s reaction. I am not going to judge Martin or in any way discourage him from producing more addons. It would be a loss for our community if he did. There are however a few posts that I cannot let go without a comment. There is a principal here, that in this case seems to be dismissed in favor of recieving, but I hope still is respected in the community.

I have recieved a number of e-mails where I am asked permission to re-texture or include my Antonov in certain mods.

Let's suppose Vit, who is producing a Russian transport as we speak, uses my Antonov texures in his addon without my permission, for example the interior cargo or external, that I spent a heck of a lot of work on, is the above quote the kind of reaction my plea for due credit would get??!

If that is the case, does that not discourage me and other addon makers from putting much work into our addons as well?

We all know it's stealing when you take someone else property without their permission.

Not saying that you did, is generally perceived as passing off someone elses work as your own. That is even worse.

That makes a lot of us uncomfortable and if we say so, it's perceived here as whining

But then we get to the fact that this was Microsofts property, and it's ok (right) to "share" their work Would Martin have gotten permission from the makers of FS-2004 to use their textures in a non profit addon for another game? Probably not.

As I said, I'm not going to judge Martin, simply because he didn't "rip" them off as such.. The textures in FS-2004 are infinately better and their model is much nicer in every way. Except that you can't walk around in or outside of it, flush the toilet, open the doors, eject the passengers through the roof, see that much smoke from the engine start and all the other lovely OFP-Only things

Martins DC-3´s fuselage is a bit bulgier on top than MS´s one. Doesn´t look any worse for it, just a detail.

Bottom line, Martin probably could have mentioned the texture thing in the readme, and we'd not be having this negative sub-thread interweaving a good discussion for a good addon.

Hope we all continue to see new and exciting addons for this amazing game, all the way until OFP2 comes out

From what I saw , I think it was mainly comments under ofp.info website that prolly affected most.

So sad that Martin couldn't see that all the people that liked his addons, people are gonna complain anyways.The people that made bad comments have a history of insulting people.

Some prolly don't even play OFP and are just there to bash it.

I can't comment much on the borrowed textures,if the maker doesn't mind,its ok with me, I like to make my own.

And like I have stated in the past...its the hardest part of the addon and can make it or break it

You also have to remember that Martin and other addon makers are really making the addons for their own use but sharing with us also

Nevertheless its sad that Martin won't be sharing his addons with us any longer and he was one of my most favorite addon makers (just look at the "what addon you waiting for topic")

Martin made good addons. No question. As far as him deleting his site and all his stuff it's sort of childish. So as far as him leaving oh well, he's a baby.

People: If you cant handle criticism DO NOT make addons. No matter how good others will always criticize.

Now, on another note. There is not really such a thing as "stealing" addons, or textures either for that matter, Agreed, it's a matter of integrity. To takes other work and pass it as your own shows you are a loser. However read the disclaimer that came with O2. You have no rights, intelectually or otherwise to anything that was made in O2. In fact if you read it properly BIS retains the rights to your work, not you. So if I take a photo of a tank and make a model of it am I stealing the rights to the photo? Big deal if he reverse engineered flight sim textures, I never once heard him say they were his from scratch.
