SnypaUK 0 Posted January 5, 2004 After playing on a couple of RTS game demos i rather like the genre. I think ill buy one but i dont know which to pick. It need: 1. resource management (building units etc) 2. preferably modern or near future units Any suggestions?
Acecombat 0 Posted January 5, 2004 Buy Emperor battle for Dune its the best RTS there is Or go for classic Red alert or CnC Generals those are the best RTS i know to date.
Guest Posted January 5, 2004 Command and Conquer Generals was a good game. Not very realistic, and grossly offensive to some, but an enjoyable game nonetheless.
John C Flett 0 Posted January 5, 2004 Don't limit yourself SnypaUK. Though those are two classic elements there are also some really good games which fall outside your limits. Both the 'Total War' games ( Shogun and Medieval ) are superb though historical and seperating the management and combat. Also 'Ground Control' is worth a look though it has no building stage. Beyond that, yeah the C&C titles are the classics.

benu 1 Posted January 5, 2004 I always thought that the old Starcraft has never been beaten. I never liked the old C&C, as the interface is crap and it tends to be something like "tank rush". I got many old rts here, but only Starcraft really had no flaws that made it unplayable. That said i have to admit that i don't know the newer titles like C&C Generals. hellfish6 7 Posted January 5, 2004 Sign up to be a beta tester for Supreme Ruler 2010. Lets you build damn near every modern and near-future you want, but it's not a clickfest RTS like C&C. In fact, it's a real stategic game with incredible detail in everything, so it's not simple to play. SR2010
Consigliere 0 Posted January 5, 2004 Nothing beats C&C Red Alert (One not Two ,which was crap) and Civ 2 or/and
DracoPaladore 0 Posted January 6, 2004 Both the 'Total War' games ( Shogun and Medieval ) are superb though historical and seperating the management and combat. I'm going to double that. While the "Campaign" world map is turn based, the fighting in the game is action packed balls to the wall medievil action!
bmgarcangel 0 Posted January 6, 2004 I recommend these ones in order: 1.Starcraft 2.Red Alert 2 3.Homeworld 4.Homeworld 2 5.C&C: Generals 6.Emperor:Battle For Dune

hellfish6 7 Posted January 6, 2004 Come to think of it, the Total War games are pretty cool. I'm looking forward to Rome: Total War.

Gadger 0 Posted January 6, 2004 Medieval total war, quite simply the greatest RTS to date. www.totalwar.com
pajama 0 Posted January 6, 2004 If you want a pretty new-ish one try Rise of Nations...its some what like Age of Empires but spands 8 ages and includes 18 historical nations, (each with its own special abilities) 220 diffrent units (500 variations) the game also incorparates something new to RTS, border zones...its more fun then you think Part of the sp is very similer to the Total War games where its like Risk until the fighting starts ...also it has a pinch of turn based strategy games since its from the lead designer of Civilization II, Brian Reynolds Nations include: Aztecs, Bantu, British, Chinese, Egyptians, French, Germans, Greeks, Inca, Japanese, Koreans, Maya, Mongols, Nubians, Romans, Russians, Spanish, and Turks (An expansion is in the works which well add Americans(?), Lakota, Iroquois, Persians, India, and Dutch. The expansion well also add a Government feature) Official Site Reviews Other RTS games I recommend: C&C Red Alert 1, Shogun: Total War ...can't wait for Rome Have fun, -PJ
bmgarcangel 0 Posted January 6, 2004 Homeworld 2 is the best dudes!! BEST IN THE WORLD!! After that is Starcraft!!
Doc. Zaius 0 Posted January 6, 2004 I never really seemed to gel with Homeworld 2. Perhaps I should give it another chance. Homeworld, on the other hand, rocked my casbah. And there was a Space: Above and Beyond mod for it! Â (Anyone else ever watch that show?) Anyhow, back on-topic: I'd second (third? forth?) the recommendation of Medieval: Total War. C&C Generals was pretty cool. Some people would accuse it of being 'style over substance' (and they're probably right) but it's certainly a fun ride.
mr burns 132 Posted January 6, 2004 I don´t like C&C anymore (been owned by a friend on LAN ). Just the fact that it comes down to "who can command the most units @ the same time" annoys me (tactic what ? the´ve got superweapons & stuff..) .. also in SP gaming the CPU player takes a superior advantage from this. Medieval: Total War was really cool.. i loved conquering Europe in the Free play mode i am also looking forward to Full Spectrum Warrior .. watched the trailer and couldn´t get enough of the sweet grafx.. Tamme 0 Posted January 6, 2004 Medieval: Total War is the best. You should buy the battle pack which has both Medieval and Viking Invasion. Red Alert 2 is fun though it has no depth, it's a clickfest and the superweapons are a bit stupid (except the nukes).
bmgarcangel 0 Posted January 6, 2004 lol I beat homeworld 2 in medium mode in just 4 days cause i'm an expert homeworld player already Doc. Zaius I like your avatar.......its from the original Command & Conquer
Black Knight 0 Posted January 6, 2004 I'm getting my Medieval battle pack tomorrow, when it comes out here in Canada (at EB for $39.99Cdn). I've played the demo and loved it, I even beat the last mission in the tutorial with loosing only 1/4 of my units  btw you can also try Hearts of Iron but that more on the WWII side.
