Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 19, 2005 Akira, great photos. But how sadistic are you to post images of beach&sun while the weather here still sucks! But here comes a quizz question: why do cigars have a paper ring wrapped around them?
Akira 0 Posted April 19, 2005 I'm not sure. The wife and I toyed with the idea of buying a box of Cuban's (cigars...not people) and a box of regular cigars and switching the rings to bring back. We figured that Murphy's Law would come into affect though, and assure that we would be scrutinized and searched so we decided not to. Sure enough, they waved me through Customs as I ran across DFW with a bag of 6 rums bottles.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 19, 2005 actually back then gentlemen used to wear white gloves even when smoking their cigars. But usually this left brownish stains on the gloves so they wrapped a little paper around them where their fingers would touch the cigar.

Supah 0 Posted April 24, 2005 Took some more aircraft pictures today! RNLAF F-104G Starfighter D-8245 Ex Hellenic Airforce F-102 (I Believe, might be the F-106 too) painted to represent a USAFE 32nd FIS example operating out of Soesterberg AB. The shot is just me trying to be artistic as the planes were parked to close together to get a good shot from the side, its also in pretty poor shape with panels missing from its flanks. Anyone who claims to know anything about modern aviation should know this puppy, the venerable MiG-21 Fishbed. This one has been parked outside and is a bit rusty in places but still a nice looking bird. On the other side of the fuselage there is this writing. I have no idea what it means so if anyone knows I'd be thrilled to hear it Shows how much corrosion and dirt there is on this bird too. On the nose there is a excellent maintenance award insignia. I was told and have read this was issued to units in the USSR and they were allowed to paint this symbol on the nose. The state its in now hardly deserves such an award I've seen it called "The MiG symbol" which its not, that looks completely different and I've heard it called the excellent plane award, which is close but no cigar
Supah 0 Posted April 24, 2005 And some shots that didn't fit in the other post! Ex-RNLAF dakota, atleast its painted to look like that. Might have been a civilian bird painted up to look like one too. Check out the worn paint work on the plane and the shiney brand new rudder ! [ig]http://supah.chaotic.nl/sabre.jpg[/ig] over 100kb! A F-86E sabre from the portugese airforce painted to look like a USAFE 32nd FIS bird. Hints at its portugese past are still present as a lot of the stenciling on the bird is still in portugese. I saw this bird in the storage hanger when it had just been restored to flying condition, it looked so good then .... not anymore.

Pathy 0 Posted April 25, 2005 All the following copyright to me  Some OK snaps ive taken while over here. Big size is awkward but im away from image editing software, so its a simple upload and show off. Just click, then when it loads, clicking the massive oversized image fits it to window, a) making it nice quality and b) making the whole pic viewable! I have no idea what it means so if anyone knows I'd be thrilled to hear it Shows how much corrosion and dirt there is on this bird too. The second word means "nightmare". Not sure about the first, but I get the feeling it might be an exclamation like "What a nightmare!" Nice pics

ag_smith 0 Posted April 26, 2005 Looking at Pathy's pictures, I want to go to Ecuador now... Anyway, any Canon Powershot Pro 1 users here? I'm thinking about upgrading from my good old Powershot A70 and I've found Walmart has Pro1 at $650. Sounds not that expensive for a 8MP 7x zoom camera, but I wanted to hear what you guys think about it. If not this one, what else would you recommend at similar price (note: has to use Compact Flash or SD cards, so no Olympus)? Thanks.
