Smartti 1 Posted December 15, 2003 I haven't found any new units that actually use the new weapons PPscH-41, RK-95 VV2000 and Barrett(?). My turn to nitpick! It's PPSh-41 Â (or PPSch-41 if you're german). The last two letters is typed with a capital S followed by a lowercase h, as it's a translitteration of one cyrillic letter. PPSh is an abbreviation from Pistolet Pulemyot Shpagina (Shpagin's submachinegun - compare with Avtomat Kalashnikova) and the original cyrillic designation has three letters. Or PPSch-41 if you're English... Â Edit: Does it matter anyway?

Grimmer 0 Posted December 15, 2003 Also, a readme with a bit of the units history and perpous could be really helpfull for people like me You can find lots of information about FDF, its history, history of finland, etc, from the official pages of Finnish Defence Forces. Finnish Defence Forces http://www.mil.fi/english/ There are also good booklets about FDF in general. laulau 0 Posted December 15, 2003 I really love this mod. Probably the best one. The 1.0 was great and things are just getting better with the 1.1. i have a little question about the tent. In the 1.0, it was possible to light a fire in the tent and smoke was coming out. If i remember well, it was the line "this inflame true". Since i installed the 1.1, this line doesn't work anymore. Have you remove this possibility? if not, what is the correct line to get the smoke? thx for the answer.
norsu 180 Posted December 15, 2003 Yes that feature was removed because it prevented those tents from collapsing.
tykäri 0 Posted December 15, 2003 So, how about those Drakens? Any plans for them to be included in this mod?
MikkoFin 0 Posted December 15, 2003 So, how about those Drakens? Any plans for them to be included in this mod? No plans and probably no drakens.
miles teg 1 Posted December 15, 2003 Well I guess mission makers can always include Footmunch's Draken into their missions. I didn't know Finland used the Draken so I'll definitely be using it in my FDF missions. The only thing that I think really sucks is that the HIP doesn't even have a door gun. I can't imagine that any combat helicopter wouldn't have at least a door gun for self-defense. Same for the MD-500. I don't really use it in any missions because it doesn't have any purpose except to draw fire from Russian machine guns. But because I like big battles and helicopters take up alot of CPU power, I don't use the MD-500. I really dig the Mig-21 however. So far that's the best looking Mig-21 model I've seen so far. I have one based on Footmunch's Mig-21 model that I've been working on (that I converted to a Mig-21BIS) for the Egyptian and Syrian airforce but I just can't seem to get the nose quite right. GoOB 0 Posted December 15, 2003 As far as I know the FDF doesn't use the MI-8 in a direct combat role so to speak. They use it to haul people and other resources within their own lines and to some extent behind enemy lines. The same reason why the Finnish emply only the F-18C and not the F/A-18. No Finnish nor Swedish helicopter is armed with a doorgun to my information not even the Swedish ones meant to insert units quickly have doorguns, but adding one for playabilities sake would be nice. Also the MD-500 is a training/recon/"VIP" transport if I understand everything correctly. EDIT: Also the Draken is out of Finnish service, but it would be sweet to have it along with the MIG-21. miles teg 1 Posted December 15, 2003 Ah ok. Thanks for clearing that up. That's kinda scary that the troop transport helicopters don't have door guns. But I suppose that in an emergency, soldiers carrying belt-fed machine guns could fire their weapons from the doorways. Still in the OFP game, a door gun can often make a big difference when approaching a hot LZ. It also makes for MUCH funner MP games. I've played some excellent MP games where I was the door gunner on a UH-60MG and I provided air support for the other players in the ground assault team. This is even funner with the BAS blackhawks with the M134 miniguns. Just like in real life, they provide superior suppressive fire because due to their high rate of fire then can saturate an area with bullets. The pilots can also fly faster over a target area while still giving the player (or the AI gunner) a decent chance of hitting an enemy soldier. But I'd just be happy with a PKM on the HIP. As for the F/A-18 I imagine that the HAWK fighter is used as a fighter bomber rather then the F/A-18 because it is short ranged and designed more for defense work rather then long range bombing. I'm surprised they haven't upgraded to something like the Su-25 (or the newer variants). Anyhoo... oh... one last thing. Does the FDF uses the AT-3 Suitcase Sagger? I've been dying for someone to make a Suitcase Sagger addon that can be picked up and carried around in its suitcase and then deployed by the gunner. I know it would be impossible to simulate the joystick operated guidance system (kinda like flying a remote controlled plane), but at least the SACLOS guidance could be simulated (where the missile follows whatever target you keep the weapons sights on.) If the FDF uses the AT-3 it would be a FANTASTIC addition to the FDF pack in addition to a standalone addon that could be used by many different mods since the AT-3 Sagger is one of the most common (and cheapest) ATGM's in the world. FDF does not use AT-3 sagger IIRC, and we dont have AG-capable planes because of political reasons, some think they are too "aggressive". FAF claims that the hawk would not be used during war time (hawk is used for training during peacetime) at all but who knows..
laulau 0 Posted December 15, 2003 an other question about the features of this mod. i've read the read me classnames but i couldn't find the name of the tripwires as ammo like those that the engineer can deploy. Smartti 1 Posted December 15, 2003 Anyhoo... oh... one last thing. Â Does the FDF uses the AT-3 Suitcase Sagger? Â Saggers were mounted originally on BMP-1s. Nowadays replaced with more modern missile - Spandrel. IIRC.

GoOB 0 Posted December 15, 2003 I will be uploading the Finmod1.0 readme if the Finmod crew hasn't put it on their forum or somewhere else. As this contains the codes for armpatch rank markings etc.  EDIT: SmartDrv beat me to it

GoOB 0 Posted December 15, 2003 The 1.0 readme is uploaded to Blackdogs server, I hope he doesn't mind but I figure the traffic to the thread on the Finmod forums would be about equal 1.0 README
Blake 0 Posted December 15, 2003 No. But FDF has used first-generation Vigilante AT-missile which is joystic-guided like Sagger and launched from boxes on ground.
GoOB 0 Posted December 15, 2003 I would like to make a huge request for a thing to be included in a future version of FDFMOD. Finnish KFOR units! Sisu APC's without the ITKK painted in olive drab etc. Soldiers in green berets and olive drab uniforms and things like that. Since I have had a major "romance affair" with Nordic units acting abroad for quite some time now. Is there any possibility of adding similar units in future FDFMOD versions? Raven Squad 0 Posted December 15, 2003 At first i want to thank FDF mod team for great work. Then to the request. Is there any chance that next releases would have proto sisu and 120 mm mortar?
