Sad and shocking news indeed, and just a year older than I, although I only spoke with him once, it's still very sad to hear. All I can say is our best wishes should go out to all his family and friends.

Although im not a highly religous person myself, It is comforting to have faith that your loved ones and friends have gone to a better place and that one day you shall be reunited.
