Silent N Deadly 0 Posted May 16, 2003 I am doing a school project and I need a survey graph ASAP. In order to get the survey graph I will need to conduct a survey. I would really appreciate it if I could get HONEST responses. This is just a simple Airplane Safety survey. Like I mentioned above please respond honestly and take this seriously. This is very important to me, and this is a graded graph. Thank you…. very much. The Question is: Where do you think is the safest place to sit in an airplane?
Die Alive 0 Posted May 16, 2003 Inside the Black Box, since that box always seems to be found in good shape (more or less). -=Die Alive=-
Akira 0 Posted May 16, 2003 Had a hard time picking because I've heard two different things. One, that the tail is. Two, that the wing section is (being the structurally strongest point).
kegetys 2 Posted May 16, 2003 If the plane is a fighter jet, i'd be in the cockpit since they usually have eject seats there
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 16, 2003 The tail works for me
Silent N Deadly 0 Posted May 16, 2003 I am talking about a Boeing 747 Commercial Plane. lol, not a fighter!
Renagade 0 Posted May 16, 2003 none cos its like being stuck in a little metal jail cell hurling at 300mph at 50,000 ft. As for the safest place it depends on what type of incident causes the planes to either fall out the air or what it crashes into.
bn880 5 Posted May 17, 2003 If I had to pick one answer for my future trip without knowing type of plane (engines/fuel tanks etc) and incident type, I would go with tail.

Yep, pretty amazing! BTW- Thanks for all the fast votes. I really appriceate it.
Renagade 0 Posted May 17, 2003 Im wondering why the ppl have picked the positions they did? I bet u won`t get into  the cockpit now due to certain events ,nah  nah  i was allowed into the cockpit when the plane was  in  mid flight

Tovarish 0 Posted May 17, 2003 I asked my dad this question when I was a kid (he studied Aeronautical Engineering and worked as an aircraft mechanic for Cubana, Aeroflot, and for the Cuban Air Force for some time). He told me that generally the tail, since it was usually far from the fuel tanks. I've also heard the midsection before for the same reason Akira mentioned...but then you have the fuel to worry about.
FSPilot 0 Posted May 17, 2003 There is no safest place on a plane, statistically speaking at least. Realistically speaking it depends on a lot of factors: how you're going to crash, how much fuel is in the the tanks, what stage of flight you're going to be in. If you're flying on an MD-80 (two engines close to the fuselage, body of the airplane, at the tail) and you're going to have a catastrophic engine failure: don't sit next to the engines. If you're going to make a belly landing in a field somewhere with tons of fuel in the the tanks: near the emergency exit. And no, you can't make the entire plane out of what the black box is made out of, in case you're wondering. Â
Col. Kurtz 0 Posted May 17, 2003 Sure, if a plane goes into a nose dive at 30,000ft and hits the ground dead on, no, your not going to be safe anywhere, but if the plane was coming in for a crash landing nose first, I would rather be up the back. As has been mentioned, the middle of the plane is the most strong, but like has also been mentioned, the middle of the plane happens to be right next to the wings potentially filled with thousands of litres of jet fuel. Jinef 2 Posted May 17, 2003 It's the back for a standard crash landing, mainly because most of the shock goes into the bulkheads thus seperating the plane, the back will sometimes break off and statistically that is where the most suvivors will be found. When i fly i ask for an emegency door seat, so i can help out by the door and you get the most legroom in the aircraft.

mr. Duck 0 Posted May 17, 2003 The cockpit, cuz if I'm in one does problably mean that I'm flying one. And that's for me the safests, when I'm in control...
FSPilot 0 Posted May 17, 2003 Think you're so high and mighty just because you've never had a crash!
drewb99 0 Posted May 17, 2003 Don't forget that time when a plane blew up in flight and the only survivor was a flight attendant who was in the tail section
Milkman 1 Posted May 17, 2003 Tail IF the plane does not explode and kill everyone aboard instantly, you are far more likely to surivive and escape from the back of an aircraft than any other place in the plane.
Jamesia 0 Posted May 17, 2003 I said first class. Because I am fairly sure that the plane makers put a couple of extra sheets of iron around it, or shield it from nuclar blasts or something. Or they like, have it detatch from the rest of the plane if it was going to crash into some moantain or something, so that it flies away to safety. Thats my ideas about it anyway............. damn 1st class people.
Silent N Deadly 0 Posted May 20, 2003 Thanks for the fast and lots of responses. Also thanks for the reasons why you voted, I bet that will help my grade. I could include that in my paper as research, thanks!
