High resolution skies

Recommended Posts

I made a little replacement for the default OFP sky, cloud and rain textures, to make them look a bit better... The skies use 1024x1024 sized textures so they eat a fair amout of texture memory.

The sky textures arent perfect, the paa compression was really hard on these wink.gif. The rain texture doesnt look much different from the default one, but what it does is give everything a blue shade when its raining which gives a nice effect.

download here (2,3MB), read the readme for install instructions!

Requires OFP Resistance.

I have not fully tested the install.bat file which does the install, but it seems to work fine on my Windows 2000 box... test at your own risk wink.gif

And a few screenies:

No. Only if the server would happen to have the data.pbo or data3d.pbo on its file checklist you would get a modified data file message when joining a server.

800 mb is a little too much just for skies. I have like 1.4 gigs free on my hard-drive sad.gif

hmm... first of all, batch installer seems not to be compatible with Win98 command shell, in which...

a) del '/Q' parameter is illegal

b) copy '/Y' parameter should be one of the last parameters

so... the installer batch should look like that (for persons having troubles in Win98):

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">@echo off

cls

echo.

If exist newdata\jasno.pac goto ok1

echo Installfiles not found.

goto end

:ok1

If not exist ..\res\dta\data.pbo echo ERROR data.pbo not found

If not exist ..\res\dta\data.pbo goto end

If not exist ..\res\dta\data3d.pbo echo ERROR data3d.pbo not found

If not exist ..\res\dta\data3d.pbo goto end

If not exist ..\res\dta\hwtl\data.pbo echo ERROR hwtl/data.pbo not found

If not exist ..\res\dta\hwtl\data.pbo goto end

If not exist ..\res\dta\hwtl\data3d.pbo echo ERROR hwtl/data3d.pbo not found

If not exist ..\res\dta\hwtl\data3d.pbo goto end

echo This will process datafiles as required for high resolution skies.

echo None of the original OFP files will be modified.

echo.

echo Before proceeding, please make sure that you have

echo at least 400MB free space on this drive.

echo.

echo.

echo Press any key to continue or ctrl-c to abort.

pause >NUL

mkdir dta

mkdir dta\hwtl

mkdir temp

del temp\*.*

cls

echo Processing dta\data.pbo...

echo.

bin\cpbo.exe -e ..\res\dta\data.pbo temp

copy newdata\*.pa? temp /Y

bin\cpbo.exe -p temp dta\data.pbo

del temp\*.*

cls

echo Processing dta\hwtl\data.pbo...

bin\cpbo.exe -e ..\res\dta\hwtl\data.pbo temp

del temp\obloha.p3d.srpc

copy newdata\obloha.p3d temp /Y

copy newdata\obloha.p3d temp /Y

bin\cpbo.exe -p temp dta\hwtl\data3d.pbo

del temp\*.*

cls

echo.

echo all done.

echo You can now run OFP with high resolution skies by using -mod=hisky parameter.

:end

pause

<span id='postcolor'>

Secondly... WOW, huhuhu... great! :] Extremely good work! :]

Kickass work! However i have a bit of trouble, as the game has crashed without warning twice now when running the mod along with alot of addons.. now, it COULD be the addons, but i havent seen any addons that would exit the game to desktop at once, and i used differant (previously working) addons the two times it happened... Not that it matters as im not much of an active ofp player anymore, and exiting like that real quick and neat is kinda good, otherwise i just doodle around with the mission editor for too long smile.gif

I'm dieing here, Kegetys. I spent most of the day trying to figure out how to install you're pack- I figured my machine was singlehandidly screwing me over since everyone else on the forums seemed to be running it just fine.

Johann's post now revealed to me that it is windows 98 who can't run the installer correctly (thus, the "invalid directory" statements) and since i'm quite inept at coding whatsoever could someone release some kind of "coding for dummies" or fixed installer? ...

[EDIT]: I just noticed that .bat files can be edited with a simple text editor. I really should have noticed that earlier. Ah...Kind of eliminates the whole purpose of this post, I know.
