I guess with the mass media accompanying the troops there seems to be some sort of media war going on also.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi troops fired at unidentified targets in the Tigris River in Baghdad on Sunday after reports that U.S. or British pilots may have ejected over the city.

Television pictures from the bank of the Tigris showed speedboats searching the river and yelling soldiers firing volleys of shots into water near the edge of the river.

The Arabic television network Al-Jazeera, quoting witnesses, said two Western pilots had come down by parachute and that troops were searching for them.

There was no immediate comment from the headquarters of the U.S.-led invasion force in Qatar. "We're watching it on TV like you," U.S. Marines Captain Stewart Upton, a spokesman, told Reuters.

The British Ministry of Defense referred all queries to the Qatar headquarters of the invasion force, saying it had no news of any lost pilots.

Does anyone know if the Iraqi's tatics of burning oil around Baghdad is working and effectively obscuring any sattellite imagery the coalition must be using for damage assement of the city?

British and Iranian officials say that the missiles that hit an Iranian oil refinery were Iraqi and not coalition. USA apologized for the incident to Iran on saturday.

Edit: correction - They apologized to Iran, not Iraq of course

Looks like Um Qasr was um CAS'ered.

UMM QASR (Reuters) - U.S. and Iraqi forces battled in the southern Iraqi port town of Umm Qasr on Sunday, with tanks and aircraft attacking targets where at least 120 Iraqi Republican Guards were reported to be dug in.

After two air strikes by British Harrier jets, each dropping one 500-pound bomb and sending columns of black smoke curling into the air, some Iraqis could be seen waving white flags and surrendering.

A U.S. commander on the spot said there had been no U.S. casualties in the battle and that two carloads of Iraqis had given up. It was "hard to tell" if there were Iraqi casualties.

Referring to the airstrikes on a building, Captain Rick Crevier added: "It made sense for us to do this. Rather than send men in there, we're just going to destroy it."

He didn't say there were no US casualties at all during the 3-4 days it took to seize Um Qasr.

It says "a commander on the spot". It could very well be that in this instance of the last (known) fighting in the area, that soldiers stayed back and let armor and planes do their thing.

the only RAF plane that has been downed was by U.S Patriots, i highly doubt US or RAF planes where flying low enough over baghdad to be shot down by Iraq AAA or Sam fire, also if you watch them it seems to me its one big hoax, also they said they had US soldiers captured yesterday and claimed they would show pictures of them, and yet again they repeated that today seems like a load of BS on the iraqi side.
