AveryTheKitty 2626 Posted March 6, 2017 Alpha Lens Flare Alpha Lens Flare is a simple mod that replaces the current lens flare effect with the one from Arma 3's alpha stage. Originally, part of Arma 3 Aegis, I decided to separate it and instead release it solo. :) You can download the mod here: OneDrive Steam Workshop Hope you guys enjoy!
HeroesandvillainsOS 1504 Posted March 6, 2017 I never played Arma 3 when it was alpha. Can you post some comparison shots?

rebelvg 281 Posted April 2, 2017 I remember I even made a thread about this years ago. https://forums.bistudio.com/forums/topic/169067-arma-3-lighting-alpha-vs-final-version/ That thread I posted is about the absence of the flare effect after alpha ended. The lens flare effect we have after lighting update a few patches ago is pretty good now. Still nice to see someone bringing back the alpha lens flare effect. Some comparison screenshots. Vanilla. This mod.
domokun 515 Posted April 2, 2017 @rebelvg thanks for the comparison If this graphical effect is so effective, why was it dropped from alpha? Does it reduce performance significantly? Is lighting inconsistent?
kecske 46 Posted April 2, 2017 iirc it was removed because the game only allows one type of flare effect for the lights, and the devs deemed this to be too exaggerated for every lightsource (including the sun and streetlights)

Does it reduce performance significantly? Is lighting inconsistent? No idea. As far as I remember there were no problems with it. As for the performance, there should be no drop at all, it's just another texture for the flare effect. The texture we have in the vanilla right now is pretty good and it's around 2k in size. Old alpha texture is 512x512.

Still strange they dropped it completely and only brought it back in the lighting update.
