Pathy 0 Posted July 21, 2004 Excuse me, i wasnt whining, i made my point ("perhaps there could be other reasons behind the maps size?") and you flamed me ("no pathy, you retard, if they could have made it bigger they would have, god, its so simple, your so stupid, sorry, you disagree with me, therefore your nothing better than a turd on my shoe"As understanding as your usual self, Baron. Excuse me, but you  were doing nothing BUT whining. I made my point: Far Cry can NOT handle 4,000,000 Square kilometres. You then proceded to argue, greet and whine about why you think it can.  Then back down and admit it cannot, and greet and whine some more about how you don't like being told you are wrong. Cry me a river. I never said it can, however, you refused to acknowledge it could do anything larger than 3km squared. THIS is what i was arguing against. YOU then proceded to whine about how stupid i was to think that there could possibly be a map larger than 3km*3km...... And Gadger provided an answer which proved you wrong....128km squared is abit larger than the "marginally larger (you said, at most 4 times larger, didnt you?) than 3km*3km maps" Im satisfied, apart from having to suffer being flamed. Last response on the subject from me, as i said, i'm satisfied.
-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted July 21, 2004 Well, quoting the Stalker website: "We create the Zone based on reconstruction of Chernobyl atomic power plant and the 30-kilometer zone around it." That makes it a 60 x 60 km area... I wonder how far one can push the envelope on that one... And for all us OFP-lovers out there... we won't have to make any BTR-70, UAZ, Lada, Kamaz, Moskvich or Hinds (ok maybe the Hind, many times it's hard to get that one right, like OFP's with its non-retracting landing gear ) because they're already made!! What will have to be done is M1A2 Abrams, T-90s, Bradleys, BMPs... OMG, thinking of all that has been made for OFP, one could go on for ever!! Â Â
Totmacher 0 Posted July 21, 2004 Stalker website: X-Ray is a powerful game engine implementing modern technologies. The engine does not support software rendering and requires a DirectX® 8 or higher compatible accelerator. General: Levels combining closed spaces as well as enormous open areas On demand loading makes it possible to create a single huge level Game time flow, change of time of the day Powerful skeleton-based animation allows usage of motion-capture hardware and produces smooth and realistic motion of characters VR-Simulation engine optimized for massive load me: What does enormous open areas and a single huge level mean ? Have the ofp game ultra, mega, gigantical, enormus open areas ? I wish me this "Powerful skeleton-based animation allows usage of motion-capture hardware and produces smooth and realistic motion of characters" for ofp2 mfg Tot
kevbaz 0 Posted July 27, 2004 We have to wait till release to see this. No Demo is scheduled until after the full game release. Or you could try and find the version we are not allowed to talk about here  And that version which shall remain nameless is kinda ok, good graphics but hard

This has been mentioned quite a few times (just search their forums). Anyway, 4 new SEXY!!!! movies are out. Download all four in one zip file from here Some of the AI behaviour and DX9 stuff......I pray to God OFP2 does as well! Â
Gollum1 0 Posted July 28, 2004 Yes, I saw those vids quite some time ago, the DX9 lighting effects were completely life-like. Can't wait to put my new computer to the test with this. Of HL, Doom and Stalker I'm definitely looking forward to Stalker. It has, above all, a free game world. All the best games in history (IMO) are free, like Fallout, Jagged Alliance, in a sense OFP... (And dare I say it Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 28, 2004 It definatly wont bother me hunting mutant monsters in a game world like that, i can even see the cool aspect to it. And if the engine can really render all that with that level of quality, looks, physics and a decent netcode then MP will blow everything away, and without any maniacs chacing me with helicopters or tanks it will be even better , im already imagining a realistic military/infantry mod with that engine. Guest Posted July 28, 2004 You can't fly helis or any air vehicles. That's how they've made it, and that's how its staying AFAIK. Their forums prolly have more info
Gollum1 0 Posted July 28, 2004 A war mod wouldn't be bad, but then AI would have to go prone too, from all the videos I've seen they mostly crouch and fire and run from cover to cover. Can your character even go prone? The game world already looks pretty war-like (not to mention beautiful) otherwise, if you just remove the mutants and anomalies. If we're talking realism, I don't like the "crosshair glued to head"-type of moving the weapon that is so common. You know, in OFP you point in a direction, you look there and the weapon follows, you don't immediately look with the weapon as if your arms were locked. The aiming style in OFP is called 'free-aim' btw.
Goeth 0 Posted July 28, 2004 Can your character even go prone? No you can´t go prone in the game. And worst thing is that they skipped coop mp and put DM and other retarded mp modes instead.

And worst thing is that they skipped coop mp and put DM and other retarded mp modes instead. Yes I know, they claimed time constraints was the reason, and I really believe them considering the scope of the world they have made, AI move around everywhere even though you aren't there and different things happen purely as more or less random acts of the AI. There is a long chain of events that that influence each other and just dropping more than one player on the map would probably mess everything up. The coop mode is requested by many and the devs have acknowledged that, maybe something for an expansion...? Really, coop would kick serious ass, judging on what I've seen I dare say it could be one of the best MP experiences ever. Of course, all this is assuming what the devs say about the 'incredible' gaming world is true.
shinRaiden 0 Posted July 28, 2004 OFP runs from 2x2 (100m) to 2048x2048 (102km) maps at 50m grids right now. The problem is not the grid arrays, it's all the texture naming and object placing that loads up your spacing. You could crank up the landgrid settings way high to make a good FS map, but then you would spend be flying over something two to four times as 'edgy' as verylow, and you still would have the trouble with having tons of objects, and you might get weird skewing as well. The 'easy' solution is to try dynamic placement, but that can be tempermental in MP, and have catastrophic effects on savegame files.
Balschoiw 0 Posted July 28, 2004 Quote[/b] ]And worst thing is that they skipped coop mp and put DM and other retarded mp modes instead. Duh nooo Not again. It has very much potential for MP. The houses and installations look great. So does the outworld. I would love to play coop in it

hellfish6 7 Posted July 29, 2004 I bet they come out with coop as an expansion or a pack. Either way, I'm buying this as soon as I can.

Been there in the past some times and it was sugested/requested by many (ironsights), but anyway ive heard GR is turning into 3rd person shooter so what wasnt already much good will only become worse. Anyway i hope there will be an option to disable useless HUD stuff and crosshair in stalker, it would a shame for this one to turn out another run&gun . pandalefou 0 Posted July 29, 2004 Read the book stalker by the brothers strougastki (i haven't the book near and i don't know if the name of the brothers are right) but the game is inspired from this book and the developers had added tchernobil place for the atmosphere
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 29, 2004 So far the only thing i didnt quite like were the weapon toggles (a bit squary and ugly) and the mirrored weapons with the ejection ports in the wrong side of the guns, the devs said they wanted to put more "life" into them with cassings ejecting in front of our faces instead of them looking static blah blah... with such nice looking levels and betwean fire fights who cares seeing ejecting brass anyway . Seems wrong and a very stupid decision...
