Don't think anyone mentioned "speed of sound" yet. When an explosion is far away, you see it before you hear it. Little details like this just really make the game stand out.

Now if only my troopies were a bit smarter. By the end of a damn mission I'm about ready to shoot the survivors.

Akh, so that's why my snipers kept shooting me!

I was fiddling around with the mission editor and made a mission in desert malden where 3 black op teams attack a military camp at night in a pincer movement, with 3 snipers giving covering fire-I was the sole survivor while testing this mission, and then suddenly the snipers started shooting at me because I was the only USA troop wearing desert camo like the Russians. VERY clever indeed.

That's not why you were attacked.

More likely is that you accidentally killed one or more of your own troops during the attack, and you were thereafter considered an enemy by the remaining team members on your side.

Anyways. Let's just forget about this lol. smile.gif

mr frag has just said something which distinguishes how great opf is.

shoot two of your own men from a distance of about 100m.

run for cover so you have a little time to see the following before being friendly fire counter attacked.

only in opf can you now look at the map and see that your locator marking has changed from green to red.

this is helpful in the game to tell you that are now considered hostile.

this has been the most helpful to me when teamates are away and i am in a tank shooting close to them at an enemy.

although, "1, cease fire!", is good, i like the map locator change more.

the best part is the variability in how the missions commence.

you can play the same mission a hundred times and it will play differently each time. This is due to the freedom the player has in the game AND the variability in the AI's decision making and timing.

It has to be the mision editor!

The editor is the reason the game is almost impossible to get bored with - with most games, you complete the campaign and then, well, that's it! You go out and buy another game. With OPF, it's different. You can go on and on.

I mean, just look at The Sims. It's the best-selling game of all time. The reason? You can keep on playing it and playing it. Just like OPF with the editor.

Another thing is that it's so user friendly. You can dissect it and put in more music, scripts, campaigns, stuff like that.

OPF simply RULES. biggrin.gif

That's the trick behind Ghost Recon. It was released at about the same time as Flashpoint yet they're about to release their second expansion just to keep the people playing. While I think GRs sound quality overall is much more realistic (I remember that mission escorting the tanks through the city, man those tanks felt real, unlike the arcade 80mph downhill racers they are in OFP always twisting and turning as if they were on an oil spill) in OFP it has many atmospheric effects that GR does not. With my new Audigy working fine the EAX on my 5.1 speaker setup has never sounded sweeter. Hearing the Mi17 Hip come from behind the mountain makes me feel like I'm really there.

This game really makes you see just how easily one can die in combat. Rambo-style slaughter of enemy is just a fantasy and no matter how skilled you are, you still end up dead quite easily against the SuperAI.

Feature I like most ? The fact that IR-missiles cannot lock on to targets that produce no heat. I once flew over a T-80 platoon wondering why they aren't showing up in red on my thermal screen and why can't I lock my missiles on to them... Only then did I realize that the targeting system sees those tanks as just a pile of cold steel. They need to have their engines running and puff out hot exhaust with a specific heat signature in order for my missiles to lock on to them.

As to the wind issue, I believe Suma made it clear that while wind does exist, and it affects smoke, planes and helicopters, it DOES NOT affect bullets and other projectiles.

I hope we`re not going into " if it insn`t (insert favoured game name here) its teh sux0r" attitude normally found on CS forums.

I was commenting on the controls for aircraft,it pisses me off when i stick in a joystick on to have the rudders automaticly disable(keyboard rudder keys too) whenever i move the joystick only to be reset after getting in and out the aircraft.

I also hate how theres an invisible boundry when steering the aircraft with th mouse only to have my view go where the mouse is and degraded steering when the invisible boundry is crossed amongst other things.

credit where credits due,OFP does at least have decent vehicles than a lot of the other games dedicated just one vehicle.
