da12thMonkey 1943 Posted August 27, 2014 da12th, out of interest what goes wrong on the seeker ? is it a Temperature sensitive device of some sort, or like the Javelin has to be chilled before use ? I think newer versions of strela have cooled seekers (SA-14) but I don't think the old ones did. I'm mainly speculating here from experience with un-cooled military thermal imaging kit for ISTAR, and thermography cameras (engineering inspection and medical IR): but un-cooled devices are still sensitive to ambient conditions, so they can take a long time for the electronics to warm up and detect accurate temperature gradients properly after startup. You get so-called "sensor-drift" for a few minutes until the detector settles down to its operating temperature, so where you store them and what temperature they are stored at is an issue. They'll suffer more if the sight-head seal is broken and any dirt or moisture was able to get in, plus the risk of short circuits etc. etc. - if that happens it's often cause for the system to be written off or go back to OEM with the stuff I've worked with. Battery life is also an issue when you have single-use manpack kit stored for several years - you might not have the juice to do a proper warm-up and keep the system operating long enough for a target to present itself and engage. The ones that ETA tried to use from the IRA didn't even launch in any of the three attempts they made to use them, so were definitely well past their shelf life by 2001, for whatever reason. Rich_R 1087 Posted August 27, 2014 This is a very nice add on...nicely done! Looks like a must have for any gaming group. As for a poster not wanting to download the weapons pack, understanding everyone has a right to dl what they want and don't want, the pack is used in so many other mods it can be looked upon as more a building block mod rather than additional space on the HD:) Is every rifle in the weapons pack picture perfect, no. But it's a great effort that's not only updated regularly but also has enough of an assortment it can be the only weapons pack a player needs:) Great job on this and looking forward to playing with it:)

I think they'll only appear in the editor actually. I'm thinking if you type 'removeallweapons this' in the unit init lines then you won't even get RPT errors on a server :) If any clan/group does want to have these units spawn with their own weapons, you're more than welcome to unpack the pbo's and change the weapons/ammo classnames. If you ask really nicely I might even do it for you ;) Obviously I'd prefer if you kept those versions to yourselves just so the normal folk aren't downloading versions I haven't actually tested to see they work etc. I will likely release a version where the units spawn with no weapons, downside of that of course is you'll have to add them yourselves. zir 10 Posted August 27, 2014 Two words: Love. 'em. The guys look exactly the way they're supposed too. A perfect example for a creative retex job. Keep up the great work!

serjames 357 Posted September 5, 2014 Out of interest why did Redarmy get an infraction ? http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?182444-Northern-Ireland-Insurgents&p=2762572&viewfull=1#post2762572
Macser 776 Posted September 5, 2014 Probably because of his "humour". The "RA" he mentions in his little verse is Irish slang for IRA. There's nothing funny about them or what they do.
smokedog3para 365 Posted September 5, 2014 We got the units now i just got to get Belfast out for you all to have a terrain to use with these units The troubles are back
dragon01 902 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) That would be great. :) Maybe an OFP-style "steal the car" mission could be made, with certain Dr. Johnston as the car's (soon to be former) owner... You probably misread the fact that they had SA-7 Grails (i.e. Strelas - about twenty of them from Libya) as having 7 SAMs. No, I didn't. Those 7 (unfired) ones were seized from them in some raid. Well, they were probably SA-7s or SA-14s. I know they didn't use them much, but they had them. Edited September 5, 2014 by Dragon01
serjames 357 Posted September 5, 2014 Probably because of his "humour".The "RA" he mentions in his little verse is Irish slang for IRA. There's nothing funny about them or what they do. I know what he was refering to... still not sure why it earned an infraction... My understanding was that we don't take political sides here.. If I'd have sung the "Dad's Army" theme tune does that make me a british anti German Terrorist ? Not trying to be difficult, but giving infractions like that is a bit like pointing the finger all over again... Whatever bad things the IRA did, and I know they did some nasty stuff, I imagine there are a million Irish out there that have their own horror story of bad treatment by British troops ? Just saying... and to be clear I'm as British as they come... and a patriot. Just don't like double standards is all :-)
slatts 1978 Posted September 5, 2014 Yes we know there was bad treatment dished out to the.. 'Irish' republicans but you'd be doing well to find a British member here singing a song about it here. I'm Irish and while I don't find it offensive, I find it idiotic, small minded and mongaloid behaviour, on these forums or elsewhere. Worthy of an infraction to teach him a lesson not to go singing about terrorist groups on these forums. HOWEVER These issues have caused many, mannny flame wars before here, so let's drop this topic before it gets out of hand and only discuss this addon. lest we end up like the N.I.M thread of the OFP days. slatts 1978 Posted September 5, 2014 whats NIM ? It was the Northern Ireland Mod. From time to time it was filled with idiotic comments, as was another Irish Defence Forces mod in those days. Many similar projects have been closed due to stupid comments about the IRA.
miketim 20 Posted September 5, 2014 Anyone know any good Ireland maps to use these on? I tried carriagdubh but it doesnt work at all :(
bravo93 37 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) I knew when I posted this, there'd be a pretty high probability of things kicking off from one provocative little comment. (Why I ignored it). I should've probably said this before but I don't really want people using this as a place to show their support to any political/military organisation. This is not some football match mod so there's no need for any chanting or song singing :) Anyone know any good Ireland maps to use these on? I tried carriagdubh but it doesnt work at all :( If you're using All in Arma/A3MP, there's quite a few A2 maps on armaholic that look at least like parts of Ireland. I quite like Chenaurus actually, Podagorsk's good too, Obviously the town names are a bit off but I guess we'll have to wait for Smoke to fix that! Great looking units, wish they were compatible with zeus:D Next update they should be compatible. Edited September 5, 2014 by Bravo93

serjames 357 Posted October 4, 2014 No that still doesn't work.... well last time I tried it. Something to do with the way the seamless hills are done or something, can't remember. If you get it working let us know - as that's an A2 fave of ours ! SJ
