Correction: not S3xism, Lazyness... Women characters requires new animations, specific clothes, etc an extra workload they didn´t care to have, even thou it is out for almost one year and a half!!! But utterly they knew some brave modder (or may I say modderess?) would claim this workload for him/herself without a tip... thou we can always donate =D

Anxious to see wargirls with proper bodies, and civilian women to populate Altis/Stratis/Taki/Zarga/Saharani/etc... Keep up the great work, Zee ;)

Honestly, not digging the glamour, doesn't make much sense to give them lipstick, also from what I could tell, there are no imperfections on their faces, everybody has a blemish or two, especially people who are in a warzone and have no need for such things as makeup.

Do women normally wear lipstick into combat?

thanks for this feedback guys, it's been taken into account as a major issue, realism is priority number 2, priority number 1 is getting the mod working, I know it sounds really strange considering I'm a girl myself, but i'm not really capable of differentiating between what's made up too much and what's not, around my area, a lot of people are orange with fake tan, and are way over made up, the textures were quite toned down to what i was used to, so it's quite hard to tell what's too made up to you guys.

i'll modify the textures, but honestly, i'll need some pointers as to what's too much and what's just right. I tried to get mason with no make-up but the modifications to her face texture mad her look like she had eye shadow. thanks ;)

I'll make sure the second set of faces are slightly more average too with blemishes and whatnot.

These are very nice! Checkout a video showing these faces on Massi units with Toadies Weapons

loving this vid! the textures and weapons look so great! good to see the heads working as expected too, thanks for sharing! :D

Nice work. These should've been in the game from day one!

thank you! female models should have been in the game, it's 2035 for gods sake i'd expect to see some female frontline combat troops.

Was watching the other thread and have been randomly checking this forum. Apparently not frequently enough. lol This is wonderful news. Can't wait to load them up. :yay: Thank you!!

yeah, sorry i kinda jumped out with this one XD no worries, hope you enjoy it, there'll be an update soon to repair RVMAT issues and fix the textures up.

Really lovin these so far -many thanks :)

Anyone else really jones'n for a snow map right about now http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m594/froggyluv/badass_zpsb9df470a.jpg

no problem, i'm glad you're enjoying them! i'm in need of a snow map too, we've got snow mods, but no snow maps :( those units look awesome! XD

yeah, it was a case of "other things are more important" understandable, but still, it's been a year and a half. but thanks, to both of you

I'm anxious to get started on the bodies, can't wait! :D

I suggest having two versions of each face, one with "make-up" looking type stuff or such, and one that is for combat/soldiers.

Regular ones can be useful for civilians, so you can just improve them but keep their look, and then make a new texture for the female soldiers.

Finding natural looking women in the military on google.... not as easy as I thought, they seem to be over sexualized.

Here's the best references I found:

http://imgur.com/4alzvnO

http://imgur.com/byuo7o6

http://imgur.com/a5HQPE2

http://imgur.com/NDejZCm

http://imgur.com/vCosGSq

Zits, moles, frekkles, even wrinkles, these things all add to the overall character of someones face, I'm not saying go nuts with zits, nobody wants to see that, I'm just saying find a balance, it's the imperfections that make the art perfect. The one thing you'll notice in all of these pictures, none of them wear makeup, none that stand out at least.

One other thing, I think that the most off putting of all the faces is the gloss they have, I would tone that right down to where it's barely even noticeable.

:Edit:

Here's a bad example of female character art: http://cdn.overclock.net/0/03/03735665_6154635399_f5469f3d20_o.jpeg (Seriously what the hell are Square Enix even thinking?)

Here's a good example: http://www.gamedynamo.com/images/galleries/photo/2717/Last_of_Us_Tess.jpg (just right, frekkles, slight bags under the eyes, slight wrinklage, really get a sense of her age and what's she's been through).

Reason I posted those last ones is that these characters have both been in some form of war or battle, however Lightning (the first one) exhibits no wear and tear, but Tess looks like she's seen some shit.

Hope this helped!

Bonus: http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2013/02/DayZ-standalone-7.jpg DayZ heads, pretty damn good.

Anyone else find it funny that we would have a serious reason to discuss the right amount of makeup in a mil sim game? But all the ideas are spot on and I agree, having some dolled up civvies and military appropriate faces would do nothing but tremendously add on to the necessity of this mod. Keep up the great work Zee!

Women in the military are just like women outside of the military- regular people, just like you and me. Why overcomplicate it?

Squeenix is a bad company producing bad games.

There is nothing complicated about making things more natural, her work will be better for it and that's what will separate good art from the bad, end of story.

brilliant examples here, thanks so much for the help! :) the glossiness is my badass (not) RVMAT skills I'll be turning the specularity down for the next update ;)

I'm just glad its a discussion and not an argument, we've agreed that there's too much, and there's no one saying doll them up more, nevertheless i agree ideas like this make the mod much MUCH better, I want it to be respectful towards women in the military, inadvertently dolling them up isn't the right way to approach that.

going to stick some fleetwood mac on and modify some textures and RVMATs tonight, then I'll re-PBO it and make sure the binarization doesn't kill the material files. if it doesn't then that will be the minor update then I'll be installing windows 8.1 (at last) and I'll be cracking down on the models a bit.

Not quite true. The military has regulations regarding makeup and hair, which means women in military look much more "plain" and more natural than in civilian world. Most civilian women wear makeup, but the military regs limit this a lot, nor is it really practical in there unless you're talking some very POG MOS (which are not present in ArmA). You'd definitely see a lot more imperfections that would be covered by makeup in civilian world.

aye, even when I was a cadet NCO a couple of years ago I was really strict on make up amongst other things, and these people were 13, 14, 15 year old girls, in the UK the cadets is considered a youth organization in which teenagers can go and learn and what have you, but the uniform is the uniform and regulations apply regardless, if you join, you've got to make sacrifices and it was my job as an NCO to enforce that 'bare minimum' rule, it was mascara at most. i can't imagine actual military units being any different, not in the UK anyway. the only make up a woman should wear in combat, is camouflage paint.

my eye, however is trained to see this as make up because of the idiots in my part of the country thinking its attractive:

http://pbs.twimg.com/media/A_nLC8zCMAATBOe.jpg:large

so I wasn't as able to discern whether some of the faces had lipstick on or just had red lips.

moving on, I decided to experiment more with Mason, mason, contextually is meant to be older and more experienced, however the original model doesn't come across that way, she looked quite baby faced, so I changed it up a bit, the position, it was just a quick job.

screenshot17183_by_zeealex-d7qevnq.jpg

I'll probably end up adding slight wrinkles (she's not THAT old) to the texture and normal map, if the normal map wants to behave any time soon.

specularity looks to be taking influence from the maps now, I changed the shader type of the RVMAT, and there's shininess on mason's hair but only a slight sheen here and there on the face.

changed the texture have no make up and frankly, I prefer it to the mess it was originally.

And what the hell is up with that girl you linked? Friggin slugs for eye brows lol

If you want to ease things on yourself concerning the Normal map, you should look into the Quixel suite, Ndo specifically, it will allow you to "sculpt" directly on the normal map, it's generally used for final touch ups for baked models, but there's no reason not to use it for other things, considering it's very good at what it does.

Unfortunately, this: http://pbs.twimg.com/media/A_nLC8zCMAATBOe.jpg:large is what most British girls think makes them attractive, YOU LOOK LIKE A CLOWN WOMAN, A FUCKING CLOWN!

*Ahem*

Good job on the textures so far, it's an improvement for sure, about the eyes, try and make a separate RVMat for them with a buttload of gloss (you can go further than what the specular power provides, input the number manually, make it something like 1000), rather than texturing it, let the engine do it's job. ;)

Indeed! I love it! ;)

Still a wee bit too shiny and the eyes are a little big, but it looks great nonetheless. :)

Thanks guys! Nice vid asuseroako GlovePIE looks awesome!!

Her eyes do look a little too wide, I think the head is slightly too far forward.

Kiory thanks for that suggestion, i'll modify the rvmats to up the glossiness, I tried ndo, itll take some time to grasp but it's really cool!

As for the girl, thats what I have to cope with on a daily basis, I personally dont wear any, I prefer good personal hygeine and clear skin over layers of make up.

Following an install of Windows 8.1, the cpu has become relatively unstable, I think its the backup software that runs in the backround nevertheless its interfering with development, but wont halt it

most of the girl pics re women who do desk jobs in the Army or any other branch. you need examples of people in the field, like the women from the Cultural Support Teams

example:

1387490223000-XXX-a-Rachel-in-village-in-Afghanistan.jpg

she is wearing light make up, even on a mission. I think that's enough to make a guess it mostly depends on the woman, and not on her role

Well, in the field, you can get away with a bit more than you can in the garrison. Some would, perhaps, use this as an opportunity to put some makeup on. I know Marines sometimes get a bit "drunk" on relative freedom from grooming and uniform regs and such while deployed. But I have a feeling this wouldn't be very widespread, though. No to mention you still can get chewed up for looking "un-sat" while deployed. Fobbit SNCOs (anyone who chews outs troops on deployment, probably just back from outside the wire, for dirty uniforms is inevitably a Fobbit of highest degree) who do that aren't exactly popular, but it happens.

in that particular case the woman said she tried to look prettier to be accepted easier by Afghan women she had to work with. so make up could serve that as well.

and Arma doesn't try to emulate garrison life, it's mostly combat oriented so any grooming standards can be ignored to a degree I think
