The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Announcement Trailer

Recommended Posts

The dwarfs may look a bit too human, too slender.

nice,

to be honest i felt sad when the last part of The lord of the rings was out so this is quiet nice to see, in fact its logic that a side story from the hobbit point of view can be told.

so yeah

:yay:

Is this based on the novel "the little hobbit"?
Yes, what you see in the Trailer fits the book's story perfectly so far.

It's a Tolkien book movie...they can't dare to make too much changes from the original plot. Plans for this were made right after the last LotR movie...but it was postponed two times.

prequel after sequel again ;)

looks good and hopefully even better done than previous trilogy movies ...

(due to fact they have plenty time and resources)

who knows maybe we get more nice movie tales from the Silmarillion book and times pre-dating the Hobbit

I have read the little hobbit and it was a very good book. I hope they stick to the original story as much as possible

The novel was simply called "The Hobbit", like this movie.

^^ Was about to post exactly this. :)

I never understood why the Germans translated it to "The little Hobbit", because calling a hobbit "little" is kind of redundant. :D

Yep, in French it was "Bilbo the Hobbit".

Unless he was little, even for a Hobbit :D

But anyway, I am really looking forward to this. Looks like a 2-parter as well.

Looks good, although I was waiting for Martin Freeman to make an awkward look to camera like in the office all through this trailer :p

The Song of Turin would be a distinct possibility. The challenge would be the much more serious, Beowulfy tone.

Looking forward to it. The Hobbit is the reason I learned english. I read the german translation when I was ~13 and thought that something was missing so I wanted to read the english original. Took me about a year to learn enough english for it.

the great thing is that in the book are stories worth several movies or short movies ...

I agree, the Silmarillion explains a lot of things about Tolkien's universe that were left unanswered. However, I feel it may be too complex for them to want to make anything from it. Peter Jackson talked of omitting the paths of the dead from the Return of the King for example.

I haven't read The Silmarillion, but it sounds like the LOTR/Hobbit studios could do a lot worse than make a high quality TV series out of it. They already have most of the props :)

The Silmarillion is the holy bible of the LotR universe...and is writen in the same style...it's a sacrilege to use the word TV and Simarilion in direct reference.

Hi all

This is a film with a great plot and effects for a plot purpose. Yes I know I have not seen it yet but I know the source and trust them.

Like all Tolkien's work it is vast, complex, layered and consistent.

On the matter of the Silmarillion it is infact the plot for tens of films or as others have said a quality TV series from some one like HBO in conjunction with Peter Jackson.

But there is at least one great film in there the epic love story of Beren and Lúthien. It would also allow Liv Tyler to reprise her role from Lord of the rings as they were said to be identical and would let her take on a both more of an action and serious roll.

Any way looking forward to the two part film of The Hobbit.

Kind Regards walker

The Hobbit is being being stretched into 2 movies.

They are going to have the part where Gandalf dissapears to meet the White council and Gollums trip into Mordor.

Christopher Lee is going to make an appearence as Saruman

.

The first comes in December 2012 and the second a year later in 2013.

Hopefully they won't cut the movies and we have to wait for the "Extended editions" on Blu-ray.
