RuskyV 10 Posted August 16, 2011 Hello all, Ive been a big fan or Arma so have finaly decided to look into Arma 2. Only im confused as to what i would need to buy to get myself online and up to date with all the latest mods and patches, ive checked the official site and to be honest im non the wiser. Would buying Arma2 Reinforcements give me the whole package? or am i looking at spending a fair bit to get all the required mods just to get online? Where do i start and what do i need to buy... looking forward to getting involved soon. Regards:)
maddogx 13 Posted August 16, 2011 You will want to at least get Arma2: Combined Operations and patch that up to 1.59. If you want the DLCs (BAF+PMC) in decent quality, I'd recommend getting Arma2: Reinforcements aswell, but they're not required for online compatibility, since "lite" versions are included in the base game (OA/CO). RuskyV 10 Posted August 16, 2011 So all i would need is Arma2 Combined Ops, and if i want the better textures for the later then i would need to buy Arma2 Reinforcements. So with this i should be able to then download and install the popular mods and have no problems? Dose anyone know if i would have any issues if i installed the Reinforcements mod later after patching and moding Arma2 OC? or would i need to do a fresh install to get things working? only because i might not be able to get the addon because of availability. Thanks for the info MadDog. Regards
jedra 11 Posted August 16, 2011 Hi, You will have no problem running CO and then adding reinforcements later.
maddogx 13 Posted August 16, 2011 Dose anyone know if i would have any issues if i installed the Reinforcements mod later after patching and moding Arma2 OC? Nope, zero problems. The DLCs can be installed and uninstalled at any time, regardless of mods, and without requiring a reinstall of the whole game.
dmarkwick 261 Posted August 16, 2011 I can recommend the purchase of ArmA X from Sprocket. All the games are fully patched already, and you should install in this order: ArmA 2. ArmA 2:Operation Arrowhead (into the same directory as ArmA2). BAF. PMC. Then you'll be good to go.

The Hebrew Hammer 10 Posted August 17, 2011 I personally don't recommend Sprocket. There's easier ways to go about buying it, either through steam or direct from BIS' store.

Regards Russ, Yeah. ArmA 2 is a stand alone game, Operation Arrowhead is a stand alone game, and ArmA 2: Reinforcements is a stand alone game. ArmA 2 is the original, Operation Arrowhead is the expansion, and Reinforcements is the two DLCs (BAF and PMC) bundled together. Operation Arrowhead gives you BAF and PMC lite, which gives you playable albeit reduced quality units so you can play with your friends who have BAF and PMC but no missions or campaigns from those DLCs. Reinforcements gives you lite versions of the units from OA (US Army, middle eastern style rebels, and a middle eastern army with some really neat antiquated kit (like T-34s among others)). I also would recommend you get Combined Operations, which gives you ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead, maximum MP compatibility, and 3 campaigns. Then you can upgrade from there if you so choose. But wenn you will have A2 uninstall OA and install first A2 then OA in the same folder and you will have Arma 2 CO.

Bee8190 10 Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) The ability to install your games onto any machine you want as long as you login to your steam account. Yeah that sounds handy but it's pretty much the same with sprocket (where i made my purchase) as i have the files in back up on DVD and when you log in on sprocket download manager is available, thus same as steam;) Though some if not a lot have changed since i made my last buy of steam Edited August 22, 2011 by Bee8190
mrcash2009 0 Posted August 22, 2011 The ability to install your games onto any machine you want as long as you login to your steam account. The exact reason why not too & why sprocket would be better.

fabius 10 Posted August 29, 2011 Jumping on this one- So I bought Combined ops from Gamersgate. Downloading and giving Arma2 a spin tonight. (Downloading OA tomorrow) Do I need to patch Arma 2 before intalling OA in the same directory as Arma 2? (Weekend I will top up on Brits and PMC)
old_painless 182 Posted August 31, 2011 Do I need to patch Arma 2 before intalling OA in the same directory as Arma 2? No. Your download of Arma2 will most likely be with a recent patch. Then install OA. Like you say, make sure that the OA installer wants to install to the same folder that Arma2 was installed to, otherwise make it. When OA is done installing, launch the Combined Ops game, this is done by invoking the Arma2OA.exe (you should have a shortcut by now that does that for you). Then check the patch number, lower right corner. Should be 1.59.79384. Then you are as patched as you can get :)

Sorry to be a pain but my DL from gamersgate took so long I want to get tit right first time My Arma2 directory is C programe files- Bohemia Interactive- ArmA2 So I install the OA and later British and PMC in that ArmA2 folder?
