technology 10 Posted August 15, 2011 Hello fellars, just a quick question regarding head bob. Will there be a slide-bar to adjust the head-bob amount as in armaII??
purepassion 22 Posted August 15, 2011 Lord Ivan said, no features will be removed for arma 3 , so this is more than likely
paecmaker 23 Posted August 15, 2011 I see absolutly no reason for not having a slider to let you choose if you want head bob.
mrcash2009 0 Posted August 16, 2011 When is bob getting some?
Laqueesha 474 Posted August 17, 2011 I wonder how the new animation system would come into play in regards to the head bob.
metalcraze 290 Posted August 17, 2011 Indeed. I hope there will be no floating camera
dysta 10 Posted August 17, 2011 And I hope the headbob in FPS vision could be achieve gyroscopic control, which mean the eyes is still can mentally adjust the balance even in heavy headbobbing, that's of course not making them run like CoD shooter, but at least the shakiness will be a lot more natural instead of a shaking camera. dmarkwick 261 Posted August 17, 2011 Well, it's either floating camera or headbob guys. Or, a slider that can somehow allow the user to blend from one to the other.... oh.

zooloo75 834 Posted August 17, 2011 The headbob should be dependent on your characters weight from gear, etc.
dysta 10 Posted August 17, 2011 The headbob should be dependent on your characters weight from gear, etc. Agree, and also the different slope or surface (like rocky peddled floor) will make them walks harder, as well as more bobbing from it.
Pulverizer 1 Posted August 17, 2011 "Camera bobbing" in video games is complete bullshit, as well as vision blurring when exhausted. It might surprise you how flawless image stabilization the human brain have if you tried running for once in your life. Also, you do not lose eye sight under physical stress, quite the contrary. metalcraze 290 Posted August 17, 2011 Actually if you had tried running once in your life you'd notice that you can't really see any small details past 50m

I do, whenever I'm physcally stressed by heavy gear outdoor I definitely loose the ability to care for my peripheral perception...beeing short on breath and having aching limbs does not help perception in any way. maddogx 13 Posted August 17, 2011 Instead of the whole screen bobbing around as it does, the center of the camera view should be fixed on a point "infinitely" far away, meaning that whatever you're looking at stays centered. The actual location of the camera would still bob around with the head of course, but the effect should be a lot less jarring and I'd say more realistic as it mimics the eyes focusing on something. As it stands, I find minimal head bob in Arma2 to be better than none at all. Zero head bob feels like moving around on rails.
Pulverizer 1 Posted August 17, 2011 Actually if you had tried running once in your life you'd notice that you can't really see any small details past 50m O RLY? I do run 8 kilometers every other day (when I'm not out of town working my ass off), so what the hell do I know
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted August 17, 2011 (edited) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunnel_vision Medical / biological causes:++++++ Extreme fear or distress, most often in the context of a panic attack. During periods of high adrenaline production, such as an intense physical fight. Intense anger, due to the body being rapidly flooded with adrenaline and oxygen. Thank God the game doesn't enforce this, huh? :) Or the fact that my goggles fog up during a heated run or sweat running into my eyes. From own experience: Eye/brain may be able to compensate for some movement, and I would expect it to for a slow walk on perfectly smooth surface. But when running, being stressed out, maybe in muscle pain, over rough surfaces with a tonne worth of equipment (typical condition in Arma), there is no way that happens to the same extent, and I would have some degradation to my own spotting abilities. Even if not fully accurate, it does simulate that the world does not offer perfect conditions at all circumstances. You can even set how much, so there is no complaining needed about it. And as I showed above, the real deal tends to be a lot worse that what we get. I have my head bob set at about 25-35%, which is enough to add some extra immersion, and suits my lousy frame rates without crippling me. Check youtube fighting videos. Most of the time when they fire they don't even see what they're shooting at. In Arma, they are clear as daylight (especially AI) and easy to pick out at long distances. So what if I can't spot an enemy at 400 meters while running? That just adds to the whole experience. It's the same with effects like chromatic aberrations going on in scopes. By far it exaggerates the effects seen in a real scope (afaik), but a real scope suffers other limitations as well. Such as mirage effects (shimmering), lowered contrast, typical optics distortions. Given what we lack, what we do have being exaggerated seems like a good enough balance to indicate the real world is not all that perfect. pathetic_berserker 4 Posted August 17, 2011 As long as there is a slider in A3 the realism of the effect is a moot point. I like just a little bit.

NielsS 10 Posted August 18, 2011 I turn headbob of in Arma 2 as it increases motion blur and i hate:mad: motion blur. So for me it is indeed important that i can turn it off.
metalcraze 290 Posted August 18, 2011 (edited) Turn off motion blur? O RLY?I do run 8 kilometers every other day (when I'm not out of town working my ass off), so what the hell do I know  You run 8km full speed? If there was some dude with a gun lying under the bush you wouldn't spot him I understand that realism is teh hard for people and they want to have it like in some arcade shooter, but without headbob in OFP you were able to spot enemies 200m away while running at full speed - this was ridiculous. dmarkwick 261 Posted August 18, 2011 Quite obviously, head-bob is purely subjective and subject to preference. The MP benefits seem to be minuscule, and are probably no more important a feature than resolution & anti-aliasing etc as far as "advantage" goes. As such, IMO the thread is answered, the arguments are moot, and the various braggings & counter-claims amount to needless squabblings. Preferences/Head-bob slider - set to your liking. All there is to it :)
Alex72 1 Posted August 18, 2011 25% personal liking. When 0% feels like any other simple FPS to me. However like stated there is a slider so nothing to get pumped about.
