Warhorse Studios created - Former 2K Czech, BI, ALTAR, etc.

Recommended Posts

Just read this on Gamespot ("2K Czech, Bohemia Interactive vets form Warhorse Studios")

Four ex-Mafia and Operation Flashpoint developers head up new Prague-based shop, working on unannounced role-playing game.

The string of new studio announcements continues this week with prominent 2K Czech and Bohemia Interactive developers disclosing the formation of Prague-based Warhorse Studios.

The studio was co-founded by Mafia design director Dan Vavra and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising developer Martin Klima. The pair has also enlisted some familiar faces to work at Warhorse in the form of Mafia animator Zbynek Travnivky and fellow Operation Flashpoint developer Viktor Bocan.

Warhorse Studios is currently working on an unannounced role-playing game. According to job postings on the studio's official site, Warhorse is staffing up for its role-playing game to be of AAA quality. Funding for the shop's first game came from private individuals.

While the team isn't announcing its game just yet, it is teasing some aspects of it. In a note on the site, Warhorse promises, "There is a common thread running through our previous games: open worlds, strong storyline and, last but not least, realistic design. We can proudly say that the games Mafia [and] Operation Flashpoint were the vanguard of this approach and millions of players worldwide clearly share our view. Even if our new project is different in many respects, it is a game that is not going to disappoint fans of open realistic worlds and quality stories."

It will be interesting to see what they can produce on their own. Good luck to them all. :)

Here are their new website, Warhorsestudios.cz.

Mafia and DR Devs together? If they mean Mafia2 Devs, then this could be a giant scam

and it has nothing to do with BIS, they mean the other OFP, the POS one

I fail to see how Dragon Rising was a vanguard of anything.

They mention Viktor Bocan. I do believe that he was an Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis developer. I'm fairly sure his face was the face of the main character from the Red Hammer campaign.

EDIT: Yep, he worked for BI Viktor Bocan (Linkedin)

Interesting... But the "OUR GAMES" title is quite misleading considering none of them were actually made by Warhorse Studios. :p

Very misleading indeed ... not as much though as an original CWC dev teaming up with an OFP:POS dev. They gone mad? :butbut:

Yet i´m interested in what they come up with, seeing that most interesting (speak: other than the norm) games nowadays come from the east-european region. Keeping my fingers x´ed for something good.

As Zipper5 said, the "Our Games" page is very misleading. But one of their developers worked on Fish Fillets, and even Dragon Rising.

MARTIN KLÃMA

The author of fantasy pen-and-paper RPG Dragon's Lair. In 1997, Martin founded ALTAR interactive becoming the Executive Producer. After releasing Fish fillets in 1997 the studio created real-time strategy Original War three year later. ALTAR then published trilogy UFO: Aftermath, UFO: Aftershock and UFO: Afterlight.

Martin then moved to Codemasters in UK and worked on Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising.

VIKTOR BOCAN

Designer and screenwriter of computer games of 15+ years. Started with self-published text games for Atari 800 and is widely recognized for Operation Flashpoint and OFP: Resistance. These games went on to become world-wide bestsellers, selling several million copies.

Viktor later worked on Armed Assault, a 'spiritual successor; of OFP. In his spare time Viktor creates games for 'small' platforms, Nintendo DS, XBLA, iPhone etc.

2 Mafia Devs + 1 Codemaster Dev + 1 Bohemia Interactive Dev = Warhorse Studios

Loved Mafia, loved it. That is Mafia, the original Mafia. Mafia II? Hated it.

Loved OFP, loved it. That is OFP, the original OFP. OFP:DR? Hated it.

Looks like an interesting, and potentially quality-productive mix of talents there.

It would be great if they made Hidden & dangerous 3. 2K Czech is basicly Illusion Softworks, isn't it?

Considering how hard it is for indies to make a go of it these days one has to wish them the best of luck, always good to see more RPGs being made no matter what :)

Interesting ingredients in the blender. I'm not in to RPGs but I wouldn't mind tasting this smoothie.

More likely

"Hi we've known each other for years, long enough to entrust the future success of our studio in to each other's hands"

All the best to em, all of them sound like they've got the skills to get the game done to a high standard
