pbishop 10 Posted July 6, 2011 ArmA 2 Free brought in enough idiots, I can't imagine what would happen if they opened it up to more audiences. Pure arrogance. Like saying that everyone over 2000 posts will say something stupid like this and is an idiot, because most do. (Example)
rangerpl 13 Posted July 6, 2011 Onlive is like buying a house, having to pay rent to live in it and then not having the right to sell it.Suckers are going to love it. . I just realized how right you are. You pay a monthly fee to buy and use something that never becomes your property.
PepperBelly01 10 Posted July 6, 2011 I just realized how right you are. You pay a monthly fee to buy and use something that never becomes your property. Once again, the service is free.. like the previous poster mentioned. Back when OnLive started that was the case, but before they actually billed anyone for their first month they removed the monthly cost. They do have an optional subscription in which you pay $10 a month for over 65 games, and they continue to add more without removing already available games in the, 'Playpack' which is what they call it. Sort of like Netflix for gaming.
enad 11 Posted July 6, 2011 Pure arrogance. Like saying that everyone over 2000 posts will say something stupid like this and is an idiot, because most do. (Example) You know, I worked my way up to 2000 posts just so I could say that, It makes me sad when people insult my hard work. Ya see, had to have that 2000th post 'cool-ness' You're pretty cool too don't worry. Sorry, I should rephrase what I said "ArmA 2 Free brought in enough people who ask stupid questions" Is that a little nicer for your eyes? On a serious note. I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions! ...............Shepard.

Mr. Charles 22 Posted July 6, 2011 Sorry, I should rephrase what I said "ArmA 2 Free brought in enough people who ask stupid questions" Better ask questions than not asking them and thinking that the game sucks. We had a nice 48 players COOP when A2:Free was launched. No lags, only a few retards and dedicated roles. It all comes down to availability, teamwork and a good admin. Oh, and the server was run off a home connection by one of my mates in TS.

PepperBelly01 10 Posted July 11, 2011 I found a suprising article. If any of you are interested in a lengthy read of an interview with Steve Perlman about the future of OnLive and his new wireless tech, 'DIDO' click the link below. LondonLad 13 Posted July 31, 2011 I've actually had the pleasure of seeing Onlive in action recently, and have to say before this was shown to me I was sceptical about it all. However after seeing it in action (at our office where I work) and going through some of the techincal information with the Onlive staff I was pleasntly surprised at how well it works/runs. Unfortunately I can't go into any details due to NDA's but I have to say from our office kit it's been something that has been of a postive experience so far. I plan on taking the kit home and trying it from my own connection and seeing how it functions. For those wanting to know Onlive from and FPS perspective - I watched/tried Homefront and it seemed to have worked pretty well - It felt slightly slower than a PC but only slightly and nothing that would spoil any fun at all - The grreat thing is that you can either use the provided Joypad or Keyboard/Mouse. As for the connection - It felt great - The data doesn't utilise more than 7Mbps, and requires I believe a min. of 5Mbps Internet Connection (it could possibly go lower). The main issue I see for people will be there internal connections (ensuring that its not being saturated by other services in the home using the connection and hogging bandwidth); as well as having a reliable connection :) Obviously with a game like ARMA I really think it would depend on both BIS/Onlive working together, especially in terms of getting better Threaded processes (e.g. AI) spread across the cores - It could possibly work but I'm not the best person to make that assumption :)

Dwarden 1125 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) single running OA engine would eat by the cloud more processing power than several theirs average games (thus increasing a lot cost of the cloud computing which is often sold by the CPU cycles) now running some extensive community made missions you can double that demand also the OnLive system don't support majority visual improvements on settings (many games don't even utilize basic AA or above average visual settings) thus they look very ugly even with the 'blur' effect video stream offers while OnLive and Gaikai are very interesting technologies they were made and aim for console games/gamers and are not ready for PC games (not supporting the fidelity you would await from claims of being 720p and later 1080p capable) these technologies may be intersting for owners of smartphones and tablets and mobile devicers with very fast connectivity (which is again the main problematic factor) if i was running game in cloud i would want run it at above normal settings at minimum ... plus people need realize onlive is constantly streaming 5+ mbit of data on the 720p even while being on menu or just being idle (unless it drops you for being inactive which sometimes is quite funny as You are active but i assume that's bug) so while i have OnLive and watching the technology i consider these issues to be main limitation against our titles Edited August 2, 2011 by Dwarden
gossamersolid 155 Posted August 2, 2011 Especially with the bandwidth caps most companies seem to throw out there and the amount of I play ArmA 2, I would never want to see my internet bill at the end of the month...
metalcraze 290 Posted August 2, 2011 Lol if Homefront is slightly slower then just imagine Arma 2. Especially considering that Homefront has 7 years old graphics and is using the technology that old - and OnLive still can't run it maxed out (in fact quite the contrary)
Nicholas 5 Posted August 2, 2011 So OnLive doesn't even run the games at full resolution and video settings? No wonder why that Assassin's Creed trial I had looked like shit. And isn't there a delay in multiplayer? Usually the computer is in the user's home sending information right to the server, but now, it sends it to OnLive first, then to the game server. Wouldn't that cause a delay of some sort?
gossamersolid 155 Posted August 2, 2011 Wouldn't that cause a delay of some sort? Yes, yes it would.
solidsnake2384 10 Posted August 3, 2011 Onlive is a great concept and the console folks would love it but its not hard to get most of them iterested in something like this. Just look at what Microsoft is doing. Buy a laptop and get a free Xbox 360. Thats like buying a GTX560 and then getting a free GTX240.
jblackrupert 14 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) The creator of Onlive also did WebTV. He wants the couch potato crowd and more then likely some bigger company to buy it from him. Edited September 18, 2011 by jblackrupert
viper[cww] 14 Posted August 3, 2011 Ripoff service.Paying $40+ for games you don't even actually own. Looking at your Youtube channel it looks like you're just trying to score some sponsorship cash from them. This sums up the TS intent....
LondonLad 13 Posted August 3, 2011 I believe they have different subscription offerring (at least from my understanding). Btw - Homefront was only 1 of the titles mentioned - I couldn't discuss anything else as I'd be breaking NDA. In any case - Yes I do believe its more competitive against the Console market but I'm sure over time as tech progresses they may possibly just cater for the PC market (hindsight would be useful right now). As for the systems they use - I do know they are in the process of updating a majority of their systems - I was surprised to hear the equipment they use now, and the equipment they plan on running in the future :) @Suma - From a DEV point of view and the graphics side - Yes I believe some form of common graphics settings is set between the 2 companies (Onlive & Publisher/Developer) as there is an option to change that. Like I said - All in all, someone mentioned the couch potato - It'll be a great platform/service in my opinion - Won't be to everyone's taste but that is life, and everyone is different and have their own opinions :)
Tankbuster 1746 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) At last, some of the supporters of this ridiculous project seem to be pulling out. BT and HTC are walking away with their fingers burned. This is the beginning of the end. Let's hear no more of it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19329690 Edited August 22, 2012 by Tankbuster
