Remove the blinding sun in A3 please

Recommended Posts

It is impossible to look up in ArmA 2 because the sun has too much glare, please don't do this with A3

EDIT: There is too much, even when the sun is just on the corner of the screen you still can't see

I dont think it should be removed at all, if anything maybe an option (but then that might effect balance in MP). A mod can sort that out id say.

I can't look straight at the sun IRL without shades either, seems realistic to me.

Exactly, this shouldn't be removed. It's very hard to drive in real life when you're looking in the direction of the sun, it's magnified when you're in the desert/warm climate.

You shouldn't be able look at it directly, but it shouldn't blind you when it's just at the corner of your eye. In real life, people can look fairly near the sun if they squint and don't look directly into it. I think this should be implemented rather than completely blinding the player if the sun even appears on screen.

In the current form it adds little to nothing to gameplay. Even more most people find it very annoying.

Hi,

I always loved this feature to be honest, like in real life, if you're going against the sun it will blind you for sure, that makes huge difference in the gameplay since you may or may not be moving towards the sun, and if you are you already are in disadvantage. Although it would be nice a usable sun glasses.

Smart idea, if your wearing sunglasses in your profile you don't get glared up

If they would just add an option to enable a more basic lighting system then everyone will be happy. The ones that like to be blinded with realism and the ones that want more fps. A lot of RAM is used just for the lighting system (I suspect).

I have the games of the s.t.a.l.k.e.r series which has arma-like lighting system with sun rays etc. When I use the advanced lighting system I get maybe 15 fps. When I enable 'static lighting' I suddenly have 60 to 80 fps. I suspect that something similar might happen if they add static lighting option to arma3. I hope they will at least think about adding it. It will also increase the userbase a lot as more people we be able to play the game then.

It´s not only the things adding much to gameplay that count;

sometimes a bit eyecandy is important, too ;)

It adds to gameplay the potential to be blinded by the sun, what else should it add?

Well the problem is mainly not with the sun itself, but the lightning system as mentioned before. It's true you can't just stare into the sun IRL and it's ok your visible is hindered when looking at it. I have other problem, like when you walking in a dense forest in Chernarus, and the sky is visible in any proportion, then your surroundings go extremely dark, and when you turn your view so the sky isn't visible, the surroundings will lit up very much. I've been walking around in forests, but it wasn't that dark if the blue sky was in my field of view for sure.

Superpowers after you stare into it for 1 hour perhaps?

Disagree with OP, this is a very tactical feature and great planning ambushes as assaulting with the sun in the enemy's eyes puts them at a disadvantage; however seeing as apparently there will be more freedom with regards to choice of equipment and uniform, functional sunglasses would be a rather awesome feature if done well.

Sun should be kept.

It's realistic and makes you think from which direction to attack. As it blinds you. So I don't understand what is this about the "it adds nothing!"

If anything it adds even to PvP a lot where defenders f.e. can bet that the enemy won't attack from the direction opposite to the sun (or will he hm hmm?)

Learn to play jeez. Realism isn't a CoD walk-in-the-corridor. Maybe BIS should also add a conditioner to your soldier as well?

Superpowers after you stare into it for 1 hour perhaps?

Or an 'achievement'

What a stupid feature request...

What about...remove weapon recoil in A3...I can't hit anything...

It should be improved as said.

Right now players simply ignore it. It has no effect on behavior (other than being annoying).

In the right conditions, it can be very problematic. And rightfully so. I wouldn't mind functioning sunglasses though, but as a crate item rather than something you setup in your profile. They could make everything darker, reduce the glare (which brings back contrast), and reduce the glow processing and specular highlights on especially water (simulating how polarized glasses work), and bring out the blue in the sky.

Of course there should be working dust and tactical glasses too, with working effects. I made dust storm affect vision if you didn't have dust covers. If wind hit you hard in the face (and you are facing it), you would get a blur effect unless you put the glasses on, which also slightly reduces visibility (semivisible/blurred frame visible).

Sunny and windy? You have to make the choice on what glasses to use.

You know, I've never really liked having shadows or weather either, so let's just include a static overcast sky with only ambient lighting (no sun) and no shadows. Always. All that stuff never added anything to gameplay anyway.

While we're at it, let's make all the vehicle engine sounds and weapon sounds just be a guy saying the name of said vehicle/weapon. That adds to the gameplay, making it easier to identify things audibly.

All of those annoying little immersive things never added anything to gameplay...

:plain:

Sounds good to me, i'm all for inventory items that act as shades.
