MultiDiscussion : TES5: Skyrim, BattleField 3, COD, R6 etc.

I don' t get all you PC-elitists. BF3 certainly is a revolutionary improvement in pc gaming in every way thinkable.

10 years ago if you'd release a revolutionary single player experience like Soldier of Fortune, there'd be no way you'd get high review scores. Finally we can do without bothersome comparisons with games that offered all those confusing things like ... wachamucallits ... choices, like all those other crap games from the time like Deus Ex and Hitman and such.

It also has way more memorable cinematic moments than your average dvd-movie. While a dvd-menu may have more clickable moving buttons and better graphics, it doesn't give you that extra bit of immersion when you make the obvious wrong choice. At least in BF3 you die if you move to cover 5 meters beside your AI-buddy. You even get this totally realistic rectangle with red letters to inform you that you went beyond the invisible barrier of the mission area. Fortunately even if you fail to find the obvious only right way after a number of tries, most of the time you won't have to go through the trouble of steering the protagonist. Instead you get to press the button the game tells you to. It's like you're really there in the warzone with your buddy, you're under fire and he says: "Now press the X-key". You just don't get the same experience watching a movie, how can you really immerse yourself if you don't get to tap space or x at the right time?

Doesn't it bother you that no matter how much you try to get shit to stick to your screen, it always just seems to wash off too easily. For me this really kills the immersive "I always got shit in my eyes" feeling. Man what's even the point of getting a big high quality screen then? Well you can rest assured that in BF3 that shit won't come off.

Also multiplayer is way better than anything that came before. You've now got this totally awesome destructible styrofoam simulation. It really takes it to another level when you see styrofoam blocks the size of houses bounce around of players heads and cars and such. I wish a block of Styrofoam that size would bounce like that in real life. Better yet, ingame it doesn't even hurt as much as real styrofoam.

Big minus to multiplayer is it's way too difficult. I'm not always number 1 in my team. This is obviously a bug, because there was this one time where I wasn't even in the top 3 of my team, but like 6th place or something. Granted I was fiddling with my graphic settings at the time, playing with this awesome smell-o-vision feature called HBAO. If you turn it on you can really see the stink around the soldiers in the shape of this really cool black cloud surrounding them. Still, eventhough I only played for less than half the match, placing me 6th was uncalled for. I'm confident though that this will be fixed in a future patch by Dice. In the mean time I think I'll just try to learn some of the free dlc-unlocked features I haven't even tried yet, like you've got all these buttons for crouching and driving vehicles and such. I hear you can even switch seats inside vehicles with the press of a button without any unlocks!

If you still think think this is a bad game, you are just a stupid pc elitist who has no right to voice your opinion.

Offering realistic war time experience..pft, I guess these days all you need is fancy graphics and bullets.

EDIT: *reads above post* Yo-...squints..* I see what you did there, well played.

Disagree, because there will be people who WILL think BF3 is a sim...

And there are people that think god is real, or the world will end next year, or that communism is good. Nothing you can do about it...

Played some Singleplayer and must say it was thrilling, and visually/audibly stunning.

Pffff, no one buys a BF game for single player :p

Evidently there already are. I still don't give a fuck, nor do I see why anyone should.

Hello all

Don't get upset by lazy journalism/ists who just use buzzwords to get their copy "noticed".

This game comes very close to being a damn good Military *Action Game*.

It's great that there are nods to sudo realism like bullet drop and penetrateable materials.

In fact, after ignoring the BF francise since my unhappy fleeting affair with BF2, ive actually just ordered BFBC2 for under a tenner+the vietnam DLC as im hearing true die hard team players are still online.

Really looking forward to it!

Am I a convert? Kind of.

Will I leave Arma? Well, my love of the game is waning a little after all these years, but with the next release of any of the major WW2 mods / A2 based Games i'll be back with a vengance.

As an analogy I think Ofp/Vbs/Arma has been a great reliable girlfriend to me for many years.

But although lovely and nice, she's a bit of a plain jane and can be a bit grumpy sometimes.

Now, being the nasty bugger I am, I've met this blonde 18year old bombshell (BF3) who parties hard and is filthy in all the best ways.

She's swept me off my feet, but I have a feeling Im gonna regret it in the end.

Rgds

I really don't like the looks, for some reason it seems too blue to me.

:D I'll stay away from blue. I have had green once, but that was a St Paddy's Day bagel.

Rainbow 6 Patriots announced

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/11/03/what-does-it-mean-rainbow-six-patriots/

Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction. This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience.

I haven't read the full article yet, so maybe I'm missing something, but at least in your quote nothing points toward "dumbing it down". All I see is "new narrative direction".

Gameplay will probably be similar to R6 Vegas. The mainstream console crowd loved that.

I just hate that f**king 3rd person cover system. Would rather have normal lean...

Yup, leave it to Ubisoft to put a damn cover system into a game about storming rooms...

They might have some sort of pre render target video soon, but from those 72 screenshot UBI gave offical xbox mag, I don't think this is goin to be a proper R6

and is that dan's wife at the last few shots ?

First R6 and R6: Raven Shield turned me into military games :). Then I played R6: Vegas 2... Consoles hurt games badly :(. While the graphics was awesome and on it was far above CoD, all the goods from first two episodes vanished. Instead of missions and detailed planning now you play 1 busy day of 3-men R6 team killing terrorists all over Las Vegas. Hopefully you can change rate of fire ;) (even on Xbox!).

I already see that is worse than Vegas and that's very sad :-/

I always remind people not to judge before they see some gameplay, but with the direction the industry is heading, I'm sad to say that you'll be right

:(

Why all games must have that X-Ray vision aka Eagle Vision from Assassin's Creed??! - are all players blind to spot enemys?
