BD Tracer Lights

This fairly simple addon adds appropriately colored light sources to tracers to enhance night combat. The color and intensity of the light is determined by the config properties of the ammunition. This addon also works with the NVG only tracers on the light machineguns; these tracers emit a very dim light that is barely visible, but can be clearly seen through night vision.

Note: please see the Requirements section of the readme before attempting to use this addon.

Description:

This fairly simple addon adds appropriately colored light sources to tracers to enhance night combat. The color and

Configuring Tracer Lights:

--------------------

BD Tracer Lights use only the default tracer-related config tokens. The only thing to note is that the color of the

light is defined by the 'tracerColor[]' property, which is otherwise not used. Because of this, the addon also contains

a config that corrects the tracerColor for all BIS ammo with tracers.

Known Issues:

============

On weapons with automatic reload, if the last round is a tracer the light may not be applied.

Multiplayer:

===========

The effects of this addon are client-side only. It requires no installation on the server, but only clients with the

addon installed can see the effects.

Expansions:

===========

Should be compatible with Operation Arrowhead (including BAF) and Combined Operations (ArmA 2 + OA).

Note: please see requirements for more info.

THIS ADDON REQUIRES BUILD 74094 OF OA OR GREATER

Specifically, this change:

[73642] New: event handler "fired" returns magazine name and object of projectile.

This means this addon WILL NOT WORK in regular ArmA 2 unless/until this change is added in a future patch.

THIS ADDON REQUIRES EXTENDED EVENTHANDLERS

This addon should also be compatible with any other addons provided they don't interfere with the XEH stuff.

Install the pbo & bisign files into the Addons folder in your ArmA 2/OA directory or any mod directory. Install the

bikey file in your Keys directory.

this is very cool,

Quick question for animal mother:

What mods to you have running in order to get that type of talking out of your AI squad? I find that I don't like too much AI talking out of my squad, but I like some such as what you have, and also when I tell troops to move to a specific location I like to get a confirmation.

Perfect! We had that in ACE1 for Arma2 and i miss it, never knew why i had not made it in to ACE2.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say J.S.R.S.. Sounds an awful lot like it. I use it on occasion, very nice sound mod. :)

So are those ACE tracers? They finally got incoming tracers to be visible? That's what I want. Visible incoming tracers. What do I need to do to get them?

[73019] Improved: Tracers visible in all directions.

The visible incoming tracers are from running the Beta patch.

The tracer mags are from ACE.

This mod makes the tracers illuminate the landscape.

shame this needs the beta patch, I can't use the beta on my clans server.

So I wont be able to see the tracers without NVG's or in the daytime?

Yea, the changes made in the beta are definately needed for this to work right. These will all eventually be put into a full patch though.

This addon doesn't change the BIS tracers at all, it just adds illuminating light to them. You can still see (sometimes, depending on the tracer) the illumination without NVGs, but not in the daytime due to how ArmA's lighting works.

Cool. I'll download this for sure whent he full patch is released (Hopefully soon). It was always pissed me off that they turned off the ability to see incoming tracers with the rationale "you can't see incoming tracers in real life) which is total b.s. to those who have ever experienced incoming tracers and who know that YES you certainly can see tracers coming at you.

The only thing that is not that realistic is more of an issue with the BI tracer system which is that they look elongated like you see on TV...but are not that way in real life. In real life they look like little glowing balls. It's the video/film process itself that cause the light to be stretched out over several frames of film and thus look like lasers on TV.

Still it's better then nothing I suppose. But I hope one day someone will port the realistic tracer mod that someone made in OFP that had realistic ball shaped tracers along with ricochet'ing tracers that could actually kill or injure you if they hit you.

Well if you know an experienced modeller you can just define the tracer model in the CfgAmmo classes. Ricochets already do damage in ArmA 2.
