AH-64 Pack

Recommended Posts

No worries no nerve struck, I just want to make it as clear as I can and provide examples for those that would say see it and assume I would use that count, then I figured it would be a good idea to provide some examples and why it's so high before they ask.

If my post came off as aggitated that is not how I meant it to, all is well :)

I know how it can be. The worst was back when poly count actually mattered and people would have a fit over high counts.

Im impressed with all the details you have managed with the count it currently has, cant wait to see how this turns out in the end, might have to get into helicopter use.

Oh curses, you've discovered my plans earlier than I thought..It was all a marketing ploy, building up anticipation and spreading the model around before announcing "Psych! It's not actually for arma2"

Twisted sense of humor aside, not really since they already have a model for both Alpha and Delta including Alpha cockpit which by now is probably graphically finalized. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/img/products/large/2562817a6cba1128d6ac68c65c6b87cf.jpg

Really? We've been flying the Delta model since Jane's Longbow 2! I guess I'll have to rely on your work for my fix of chain firing MWR guided Hellfires at hordes of T-72s.

Yes baffling isn't it, an the A-10C is supposedly newer than the AH-64D, iirc they had talks about it being an earlier version due to confidential information but the military changed its mind.

On the plus hand Flexman is hoping to renew the Janes Longbow2 experience, he even references it many times.

If you have not heard of it yet I highly recommend you check out Combat Helo. http://combathelo.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

I'm hoping to do some of the things they are doing such as the night lit interiors for both A and D, our MFD's will also likely look similar since from what I've seen in videos and pictures they use the real thing, obviously that would be my goal too.

This feature is one of my absolute favorites, and something I hope to achieve in Arma2/OA http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PigZ8zde4FA/S-LZ3VFTeAI/AAAAAAAAAkg/pPN3YiCTnjs/s1600/screenshot_84.png

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PigZ8zde4FA/S9Wtpo7v_8I/AAAAAAAAAi4/5qSlmMvmpk8/s1600/pitlightsImage.jpg

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PigZ8zde4FA/S9WxFotN1OI/AAAAAAAAAjI/8tJ4Vrk_dFw/s1600/pitlightsImage2.jpg

The cockpit is clickable as has been shown in a "Pre flight" video, there are overlay mask ability's for the MFD's http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_PigZ8zde4FA/TKD8yFHycpI/AAAAAAAAA74/r5efsz0OPh4/s1600/mpds_at_1024.jpg to http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PigZ8zde4FA/TKD80p-ZrdI/AAAAAAAAA78/EdfxYUHxpHk/s1600/mpds_at_320.jpg

Render to texture allows MFD's and TEDACS to be used far more like the real thing AND http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PigZ8zde4FA/THLIGH4zurI/AAAAAAAAA0s/hS_tImC8l68/s1600/screenshot_382.jpg You can sit up, lean around and zoom in the cockpit.

The engine is essentially built around and to accomodate the longbow and the terrain has a 'modern' 1980's look about it that to me, causes some nostalgia. The map is amazingly detailed for hills and size.

Here are some showcase videos, first up the 6do..err..whatever you call it, free move cockpit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLvCX9XXZSE

"Welcome to Afghanistan" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNvqRM0lT04 you can see some modern day effects but the map retains a charming simplicity

and my favorite, got me stuck on a techno theme.. Flight Demonstration, here you can see the current weapons loadout, interactable cockpit, startup, flight model and more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ILqIQDaio

Now to finish this giant wall of text up..I was hesitant on posting this first for being claimed of "copying" but that's selfish thinking. I like what is going on and it would be rude not to support it and spread the word.

So to finish this post..Combat helo, the blog is updated every week and if you liked Janes longbow 2, hell if you like the AH-64D, check it out.

Those engines are just focus on one particular target which was the Helicopters

But Real Virtually 3 is a full sized [including characters, vehicles, Jets], too bad we ain't gonna pay for the technologies neither BI will unlock it like in VBS2

But those are just realistic enough like the Digital Combat Simulator A-10c

Granted, which is why we all have an affliction with RV3 right? All it can do with such an assortment :3

It would be great if RV3 did at some point get picture in picture, sure would give interiors more importance and modern digital equipment the feeling of being modern. Who knows, perhaps down the line an expansion will bring it to light, it could just be a time thing..afterall look at the FLIR. (though personally I'd like to know how BIS and BIA agreed to have such a prominent feature in the military version allowed into the game version)

Just a small update thist ime..more of a concept though some things may be used on the damage model later depending on how it all looks and works once the black boxes are finished. Otherwise what do you all think about having base props of a tied down, and in maintinence version?

Ignore the pylon weaponry..that's not supposed to be there <.<

Alphopen1.jpg

Alphopen4.jpg

Alphopen5.jpg

More will be opened up later such as parts of the tail, possibly the horizontal stabilizer removed along with the tailwheel armor plate, engines will be added though I need to plan those out so they aren't too costly if they get ingame and the storage compartments might be opened.

Damn Idk what you, addon makers, are on lately but I feel like I'm dreaming.

The Tu95, the paladin, your apache,... all those oustanding model with such a tremendous amout of detail. Like we say in french "we have the ass full of noodles !" (means we're really lucky)

This idea of a maintenance version is awesome !

We already have proper BI's animations, a grounded version would fit perfectly with them. It would add a real life like feeling to any airbase.

Beautiful and really exciting bird, keep up the good work

Great work, chief.

So all is forgiven :D?..and I know, probably getting a bit tiring seeing more and more screenshots, I'm trying to keep them low.

Like we say in french "we have the ass full of noodles !" (means we're really lucky)

My that is quite a saying, had you not clarified what it meant I would be stuck in "O.o..." mode, thank you for easing my con..concein..nhh can't spell tonight.

What are these grey boxes behind the panel und the right side of the cockpit? ECM and Avionics stuff?

Pretty much, essentially the power boxes (though currently missing wiring) for all of the equipment on the helicotper or at least a majority. I'll be showing the delta later and you will see just how it is far more jam packed compared to the alpha.

I have had thoughts about showing just how open the bird can be, having most of the tail armor stripped, the back open, all of the access panels on the sides opened, rotor faring open and even the sides around the rotor mast so you can see the housing..but I am not sure that is really doable or sensible as that woudl be a LOT of detail whichs most likely would means lots of polygons.

What are your opinions people?

No I am not planning any other helicopters or aircraft at this time.

this time was 8 days ago but I don't think things have changed

NodUnit, are you already working on the MFD and all the electronics stuff ? Is it going as planned ?

Oh, and do you think it would possible to give it the ability for taxying ?

First of all, been following this topic with big interest (mainly because of the detail....).

Since this will be by default a pretty high poly model (even heavly reduced) and i hope you will somehow consider this project a future proof one....that will last for years.

Anyway, about the 'maintenace' model. You could make two models. One for 'gaming/flying' and one for static/display use.

On the other hand you could always work with hidden textures.

Good luck...

An interesting idea, the exterior would probably be doable but the interior I'm not so sure, at least not to the same extent.

You would be correct :P. "at this time" will extend to the end of the project. I'm not sure what you mean about the electronics, for MFD I have an old reference model to build from. I'll go back and check the size of text to buttons as well as placement and so on before adding it though. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee200/NodUnit/Model%20work/AH-64D/D-MFDPers.jpg As for the taxiing that would be more of a Franze question, I just build the bird, he programs it.

Beautiful! I prefer the flat paint job, too.

I agree whole heartedly, games need more matte and flat painted military vehicles, as you see it now is also what I will be shooting for ingame, the only parts that will shine and reflect will be the parts that are supposed to.

Excellent..the trap is working perf- I mean.... Yes this is one I am definately wanting to build now and not have to replace for years, the only problem I can think of that is for performance. A concept of 'current gen' and 'next gen' might have to be used, that way people with lower spec computers don't get shafted out experiencing the rebirth of Franze apache's.

The maintenance and performing will definately be separate, afterall there is still the damage model to take into thought.

And to everyone and others I have no quoted. Glad you are still enjoying this bird, will have more for you soon and remember, if you have any questions just ask. Next update will probably come Monday or Tuesday.

hi NodUnit

your AH-64 is a gem, it is superb:yay::yay:AWESOME:eek::eek:

quick question going to put such a control over the lights for example position of light and spot light as that of the BIS positioning lights and spot lights together so it'd be nice to make controable

and you'll make the flash of lights?

Strobe lights and anti collision lights (what you see flashing there and here though both videos are accurate, they can flash either white or red) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvU4OhjSz28&playnext=1&list=PLA5E56C4B2B75A4DF&index=49 at 0:40+ can be turned on and will be separate from the search light.

As for the search light following the gun, it does do that and it's something I've been wanting to ask Franze if we can do that. Additionally there are strips on the apache that can only be seen from behind and above, to help groups coordinate, these will likely also be optional.

We had this in OFP (pardon the lighting and..colors, I've no idea what happened to my game D: )

oldnavlight.jpg

I'm hoping the effect can be improved for A2/OA however with the new materials we have and be more than a small white flash. In comparison to the default there will be tons of features, thankfully we don't have to rely on JUST the action menu anymore.
