    Faces of War [WW2]

This has me excited, especially if you get some of the extra details right (Parka's and Rope etc), it will be extra awesome...Age of Heroes anyone? I know our 3CB guys will be up for some WWII Commando action.
  4. The M249, despite an in-service date of 1984, wasn't widely used until 1991, so after the cold war. There were some units with the weapon, but it wasn't common issue to every US unit. So it could be included but would need to be an early mk of the M249. This is from 1988 - looks possibly like he's a Ranger or Airborne based on the tape at the top of his left shoulder. So it's down to Sudden really.
  5. @Sudden....Also if you need any help with Equipment etc, I run a specialist Cold War Website (for Wargaming stuff) I wrote a complete conversion of rules and built a whole set of books so if you want to PM any questions I have access to alot of research material and some expert "Real World" Cold War Warriors who can help explain things (Russians, Yanks, Brits and Germans as well as some Israeli Tankers from the 1973 Yom Kippur War no less!). http://stoppingtheredtide.blogspot.co.uk/ The documents are definitive for timeline due to Balancing but I run a huge database of Vehicle stats, so if you need it let me know. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3E-DVIcsccBNlFVT2JVb0xYR2M/edit?pli=1 Much easier to make in the ARMA3 Editor, than build glue and paint ;). My main army is a Guards Motor-rifle Group....Still more to collect...Alot more. Keep up the great work, this period is really historically interesting to me, so your MOD is a great endeavour. Just PM me, if you need Information/ anything on NATO / WARPAC or even Independent forces (SWEDEN, FINLAND, AUSTRIA, FRANCE etc etc)!
  6. @Mistyronin -I am a former military professional to, but I fail to see how you highlighting this is relevant to your point. Your point whilst valid in the real world, is rendered pointless in ARMA3 because there is no dynamic weathering of uniforms or wear and tear on them added to the default skin. I would argue there is validity to what you say if ARMA3 weathered and distressed uniforms so each rendered infantryman in a squad had a different feel from the base default uniform. This would indeed - be realism as you demonstrate in your pictures, but that is blue skies thinking and isn't where the BIS engine is. As this isn't the case, make the uniform the same throughout - simple. Therefore, you may as well make the whole Uniform....Uniform in nature. @Sudden... Excellent work and thanks for looking at my suggestion. Another vote on Make Arma not War! :)
  7. It does make a difference, if you are going for accuracy and even having hand-cranked turret animations, getting the colours right in a set of uniform is much more immersive than say how the turret gunner cranks his turret, because 99% of the time you won't see that. Whereas you will see infantry alot. Both the greens on the helmet are different shades to the Green on the Uniform. I would say this is a priority fix, because this is a fundamental game asset, integral to EvW ?
  8. Sudden I've looked at the Western Soldier and it's the NATO Steel Helmet cover Green that is off...I've posted up a screen capture. It's almost as if the pallette of colours is different between the Helmet Woodland BDU and the Woodland BDU's. It's just one of those niggly things that is annoying in 3rd person and looks weird when you play with fellow US/NATO Soldiers

    EricJ Release thread

Wow nice work EricJ - I really wish BIS had implemented some heavier 40mm Ammunition like the MEI Hellhound, MEI Mercury round etc . Would really make the M32 a world beater! 10m kill radius, out to 650m - 800m, will go through 90mm of Mild Steel? YES PLEASE.

    Titan MPRL (Multi-purpose?!)

Taking the wheels off, 90% of the time the crew bail. So it's worth it, especially for the weight saving....Using an AT Round on an IFRIT is a massive waste as it is over kill. The amount of times I see 2x AT rounds wasted on an Ifrit or Strider only to come across Gorgon's or MBT's later and the Squad are like "Er....We are out of AT". That's my opinion and as I'm usually the one dragging around a backpack of re-loads anything that saves a few Kilo's is welcome, hitting a Light armoured vehicle is enough to cripple it and they will normally hop out, if not, no worries it ain't moving, you can avoid it or sneak up and plant a charge or even run up and steal ammo out of it's Inventory! GMG Infrits and Striders rip through Infantry so you need to knock them out quick, and sometimes given the threat I will stick an AT through one. It's situational, but the AP round is useful to carry and lighter.

    Blastcore: Phoenix 2

Yeah...1st rule of firing weapons is not to fear them, Respect yes, but ultimately you are it's sentient master and you control it. You need to take firm control of the weapon system. These guys make me cringe with their spray and pray antics, it's like the anti-thesis of a Military Professional.
  13. mate you need to use No-Ip... http://www.noip.com/ Dynamic DNS makes a dynamic IP address act as though it's static (does not change) even though it is not. With No-IP you create an easy to remember hostname. This hostname is the URL that you type into your browser to connect to your remote device. Our Dynamic Update Client takes your hostname that you created (yourname.no-ip.org) and points it to your IP address. I use this for various functions at work, such as Penetration testing etc. Think of it more as an "Auto Re-direct" to the IP you have logged in from, wherever that maybe in the globe essentially acting as an intermediary.
  14. Wow, Sudden you must working your ass off to get all this done. Brilliant work, I think this deserves a "Make ArmA not War" award because you've taken ARMA back to it's roots!

    Range Tables for Mortars

@Grumpy - No Problem, as we work on this I can see some pretty significant hurdles coming up, especially given the nature of a Commando Mortar being more like a scaled up 40mm (in terms of operation) than a normal bipod mortar (which needs to be dialed in carefully and have some really precise 3rd party targetting!). Also this was used in Afghanistan - watch this one...1:30 0nwards they set up a 60mm and start punishing them.
  16. @Sudden, I love your work man. I was playing for 40+ hours in the editor with EVW. One minor thing, is that the US Camo on the US Infantry has a slightly different shade of Green on the Helmet, than on their Camo Fatigues. It's not major, it just looks like one set of faituges is old, and the helmet cover is new? (Open Editor > place US Team Leader as Player > PREVIEW > Goto 3rd person look at Helmet Green Colours next to Fatigue colours, you should see what I mean.

    Range Tables for Mortars

Yeah I was inspired by use of this in the field (I saw a couple knocking around in Theatre, as part of a UOR rapid roll out). But this footage inspired me, and I could instantly see the utility (Also much bigger Smoke screens would be better for infantry charging open ground or areas of exposure). Simple, light, effective. I will be sorting the config, with the calibre etc so that it should damage light armoured vehicles (Destroy tires, knock out guns, emplacements, should have a chance on a direct hit to destroy a Hunter, Striker, Ifrit and all soft skin vehicles - Shouldn't be able to affect Medium Armour, APC's etc (although might DMG out HMG's on top of vehicles if the shrapnel hits the right spot).

    Titan MPRL (Multi-purpose?!)

Interestingly since the Stamina update, if I role up as a Squad / Section AT guy, I take at least one AP over an AT for the TITAN Compact. Usually running with 2x AT and 1x AP ....Why? Because the AP is decent at taking out Strikers etc, and is lighter/takes up less room in the inventory. Not many people have recognised this yet. If I want to roll really light, I take 1x AT and 1x AP, load the TITAN and run with a small backpack holding the AP. It's not good to be weighed down on foot - plus if you need AT grab the enemy stuff! I'm not bother by the TITAN so much, it's the PCML that needs a "kick up the hoop" it's bloody awful at everything and I refuse to use it.

    Range Tables for Mortars

I'm currently working with Members of our Gaming Group to develop better Troop level / patrol mortars around the 60mm calibre. The current 81mm is just too big to be practical and actually single 81mm Mortar rounds weigh approx 4kg. So Man-packing an 81mm whilst possible, is pretty stupid unless you've got more manpower than good sense. 60mm weigh in at approx 1.2kg. Here is our range data, based on a Single Charge 0 - 60mm round (muzzle velocity 90m/s - No drag factor applied (yet) ) Range / Angle / Time of Flight / Arc Height 300m = 79.3 degrees = 18.0 seconds = 400m 350m = 77.4 degrees = 17.9 seconds = 390m 400m = 75.5 degrees = 17.8 seconds = 387m 450m = 73.5 degrees = 17.6 seconds = 380m 500m = 71.3 degrees = 17.4 seconds = 370m 550m = 69.0 degress = 17.1 seconds = 360m 600m = 66.7 degrees = 16.8 seconds = 348m 650m = 64.0 degrees = 16.5 seconds = 334m 700m = 61.0 degrees = 16.0 seconds = 316m Should be done in a few weeks Models are done, it's more CONFIG at the moment... http://i.imgur.com/XnI5RBa.png (258 kB) Intention is to adopt the UGL OP-Collimator Holo sights, so you set range using the nearest 50m (from estimate by eye or rangefinder etc) then the sight adjusts to zero at that (Just like the 40mm sights) then get on the bearing and fire. There will be some skill needed for judging height differences, maybe peppering targets in and around towns etc. It's a close range mortar, designed to fill that gap between the 40mm and the 82mm Mortar, whilst ACE etc is worked on. It's not a true Bipod Mortar, it's a Commando Mortar. We maybe calling on you guys for assistance in the upcoming weeks. Mike

    Blastcore: Phoenix 2

@milsov - I got started by learning about 3D studio, configs and stuff. I'm not an expert (far from it) but from lots of posts, and lots of reading of forums etc, I've learned enough to grasp what can be done and I started on small things (like replacing a single sound file etc) and slowly built up from there. I think you could definitely do all the things you are suggesting, in a MILSOV type mod, I'm sure there are plenty of people who feel the same way as you and it would benefit the community to have a Mod that does what you have suggested. Diversity etc is all good and to be encouraged, look at the content of "Make Arma not War" to see how diverse it is. I personally am working on Light Infantry Launchers and Mortars because I think there is some excellent stuff out there not being done at all in the Community and there some distinct advantages for infantry based units (which most are!!). Another area I think is weak is the PDW area...But that's another post for another time. Pump action 40mm etc etc etc Lots of great stuff to get your teeth into. I look forward to seeing what you do, because I agree with your idea's but just not in this particular setting.

    Blastcore: Phoenix 2

@milosv, mate your fascination with Muzzle flashes is a bit off from a Realism standpoint. Yes smoke does come out of a barrel but if it's well maintained and the ammunition is good it should be negligible. No Military Professional goes out into the field wanting to gift their life to the enemy, thats where hard won knowledge and "not the rule of cool" win the day. Muzzle flashes (like I post before) are a big sign saying "I'm here / Shoot here". Watch some of the below video to see 0.50cals etc etc with Zero or no Muzzle flash! If you have visible flame coming out the end, you've either over oiled your weapon, or their is a problem with your weapon or Ammo. Very High speed Camera's can pick up flame but it should never be visible to the naked eye. I'm not against what you want, but not in this particular Mod because I think you are at cross purposes with what BLASTCORE is trying to achieve and what they have added to ARMA in the past. Please don't get angry with me for pointing this fact out, I'm simply suggesting that your valid request is not a good fit for this MOD.

    Bornholm, Denmark [Terrain WIP]

Just realised, that Bornholm would look decent with the Vanilla AAF units, nevermind Danish or Bundeswehr units / MOD packs. Russian Naval Infantry as OPFOR?

    Fatigue Feedback (dev branch)

I think with Fatigue, you've got the opportunity for "Adrenaline" fuelled movement. e.g when you are under fire close (within say a 1-5 metres of you) you get a boost to fatigue, so you can sprint fast even if tired or heavy because your life depends on it. The balance for this would be when you get to cover or stop....That's it for 1minute or you are literally so badly fatigued it takes 1-2 minutes to get your breath back. I think this would be interesting, as in my experience, you would run on adrenaline even when your tank is on empty and you were tired, but the crash the other side was devastating as your already tired body over exerts yourself because it's life and death. Sprinting around under fire is absolutely the most tiring thing, especially carrying like 25kg of kit in 30 degree plus heat, even in winter it's hot work. Do you see this guy slowing down because he feels a bit tired? Adrenaline allows you to go beyond your tiredness but the crash is horrendous and cripples you.

    Blastcore: Phoenix 2

Er Crazy Muzzle flash....NO - Real Soldiers put alot of effort into cleaning their weapons and ensuring there is no or minimal flash, sparks or even smoke. Smoke is unburnt fuel, you ideally want a clean burn in a weapon system that is lubricated, but not excessively so otherwise you get flames and all kinds of shennanigans, which gives away your position and invariable attracts fire. If you want a Hollywood MOD make one, but Blastcore is about realism not "John Woo" or "Michael Bay" stylings.
