I just hope that Arma 3 gets a proper multicore-support in the closer future. I bought an FX 8320, overlocked to 8x4.1 GHz. With a decent multithreating this CPU would be great for Arma, but as long as it stays the same Intel-users will benefit from their 60% higher singlecore-performance.

I have to agree on that, the camera is so close that the tube of the gun needs some more details. A simple but sharp texture would be enough, maybe with some dust on it. Another issue with the gun is the massive muzzle flash when you look through the display. It is hard to see where the bullets are going, and it is really exhausting for my eyes if I autofire this canon for a longer time because of the massive flickering of the whole 24" screen. Other RCWS in Arma 3 don't have this problem.

And now it starts again. So many people were asking for this one special tank to be in the game, because it was shown on previous screenshots. Now Bohemia does exactly that - and it is wrong for some people... I am looking forward to this new Slammer-Variation!

Run Arma's Mainthread on a different core
blackpixxel posted a topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Hi, is there any way to force Windows to use one single core for the background programms and to allow the important main-thread if Arma to run on an other unused core? If this would work we may receive a little performance improvement. -
Arma 3 STABLE Server 2.18 "profiling / performance binary" feedback
blackpixxel replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
It doesn't fit to the topic of this thread, but it seems that here are some people that may have the knowledge to answer my question of this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?173830-To-the-DEV-s-What-does-my-PC-have-to-calculate-in-MP I really would like to understand better what the client's task is while playing multiplayer. -
Oh yeah, it should not be that hard to make a laser guided missile that follows the crosshair of the gunner - because something like that already exists with the tow-like titan-launcher mode. I don't know what the dev's are doing, but this seems to be extremely easy to fix.

Will we ever see at least different UAV's for the three main factions? Like a Predator for Bluefor and a worse GlobalHawk for the AAF. At the moment I dont know whether an UAV in the air is friendly or not. The rotation speed of the darter could become even more faster, radiocontrolled quadrocopters are very agile aircrafts. What I also would like to see is a scouting underwater drone. Just a small submarine with a camera would be nice, like some kind of research submarine. But all in all I really like the current state of the autonomous vehicles. One last thing: The autostabilisation of the turret of the UAV's works fine - until you move your mouse. Even a small movement of your mouse will stop the stabilisation until you stop moving, which can be difficult to use.

To the DEV's: What does my PC have to calculate in MP?
blackpixxel posted a topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Hello again, I would really like to know what the PC's of the multiplayer-clients have to do. The server is calculating the AI, which is the part of Arma that needs the most performance. So the client would just have to place all the units and update their position. If they fire a bullet he may have to calculate that too. But how can this cause such a low performance? If I place 3 Bluefor and 3 Opfor squads in Arma 2 next to each other I will get 25 frames per second while they are shooting each other. But my CPU has to calculate a fight of 48 individuals, which isn't an easy task. In multiplayer I get a worse framerate than that. But my PC just has to place other players and units and he also has to interpolate their movement because the server does not give him the new position for each rendered frame. How can this task be more CPU-demanding than a 24 vs 24 AI-firefight? I am not asking for a solution for my low framerate. I would simly like to know what else the CPU has to do in MP that requires more performance than a SP-mission. Maybe a developer could answer this, or any other Arma-player. Thank you! -
Run Arma's Mainthread on a different core
blackpixxel replied to blackpixxel's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Thank you, I already tried it, but it didn't really improved anything. -
If you are in the graphic options in SP the game will pause, so there is nothing new to calculate. Does the game eally use all of your 4 cores? You should check the affinity in the taskmanager. I have at least 35 FPS in a mission with a bunch of AI with my FX 8320, but you should have a better performance because Intel performs about 160% better per core.
-
At least in Multiplayer it didn't helped me, my framerate was the same.
-
Hi, it is now about 5 years after the release of this game - and the MP is still unplayable if you play Coop-Missions with AI like Insurgency. There are so many people with bad FPS, especially AMD-users. So I would like to know whether someone is still working on this title or not. For me it is not comprehensible that the successor Arma 3 was released with the same problems. I would expect that at least some important optimisation parts will be backportet to Arma 2, it should not be that hard as long at it is nearly the same engine with the same problems..

Are the Dev's still fixing Arma 2?
blackpixxel replied to blackpixxel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Nice to hear that we will get at least another patch in the future. Well, the game does not run that bad, but it still needs a lot of improvements. -
Roll works for me. You just have to attach the sensor horizontal to your headset. So I have 3DOF
-
If you turn yourself and start shooting after that, only your first shot will have recoil, while some of the next will hit the same place because they don't have recoil. In addition to that, some weapons have different recoil animation in different firemodes, which is really weird..

What happened to the MH-9 Hummingbird with the FLIR pod???
blackpixxel replied to x hunter33's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Wow, this variant looks great! BI should simply finish it and give it to the Nato. Nothing is better than having a greater variety of vehicles. -
Oh ok, then you should be able to use one of the axis for leaning left/right in Arma by moving your head to the left or right.
-
This is just a 3-axis gyro that is only for rotations. For x,y and z-data you would need a 3 axis accelerometer that measures linear movements. I am sure that you can also use some of these 6-axis sensors.
-
And I would say that it is even more precise than the Freetrack-Solution.
-
I don't know whether is was already discussed, but if someone reloads next to me in Multiplayer games and I turn myself, the reload-sound turns with me, so it stays for example on the right ear even if I turned myself 180°.
-
The current firemode-switching-sound is broken: The soundsource stays where you spawn. If you move left, you will hear the sound to your right. If you are far enough away you cannot hear it anymore. Instead of that it should be attached to your weapon.

Running out of ideas on how to many this game run smooth on my system at 2560*1600...
blackpixxel replied to wasserkool's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
For me it doesnt matter which resolution I use in Arma, that should be simply GPU-dependend. The FPS-hit of a large object-draw-distance is much more important. -
So it is also usable as a simple 3D-mission editor? At the moment I am not sure what i should think of it, but at least it is something bigger than I expected.
-
I can confirm that. There is no sound for the Slammer and for the OPFOR MBT main gun.
-
To bring the topic back to the Minigun firerate issue, I would prefer to see the Arma 2 solution where they spawned multiple rounds per frame. And it does not really affect the performance: I adjustet my video settings to have a constant framerate of 30 FPS, but even the 4000 rpm mode just lowers the framerate to 29 FPS. If I have stable 55 FPS and zoom in, it costs 5 fps, but this is still much better than the splash damage solution.
