  1. Here you go: here are the available Country flag textures from the markers section in vanilla arma (in the Editor F6 - flags). You can use these -with the USS Liberty by copying this path to the custom flag texture field in attributes or with this force flagtexture "copyfrombelow" to Units, flagpoles or most vehicles (note that CUP and other mods add additional flag textures): a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\belgium_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\canada_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\croatia_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\csat_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\ctrg_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\czechrepublic_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\denmark_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\eu_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\france_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\tanoagendarmerie_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\georgia_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\germany_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\greece_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\hungary_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\iceland_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\idapca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\italy_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\luxembourg_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\nato_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\netherlands_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\norway_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\poland_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\portugal_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\slovakia_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\slovenia_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\spain_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\syndikat_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\tanoa_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\uk_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\un_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\usa_ca.paa a3\Ui_f\data\Map\Markers\Flags\viper_ca.paa as the Resolution is not very good you should use flag textures whenever possible like a3\data_f\flags\flag_us_co.paa a3\data_f\flags\flag_uk_co.paa or similar nato uno altis altiscolonial aaf etc. the following custom ship names can be selected at the moment a3\boat_f_destroyer\destroyer_01\data\destroyer_01_tag_01_co.paa liberty a3\boat_f_destroyer\destroyer_01\data\destroyer_01_tag_02_co.paa virtuous e.g. for british ships 03 constitution 04 Valor e.g. for british ships 05 glory e.g. for british ships 06 democracy e.g. for Greek ship 07 micdonals you can also use flag or other textures instead of names. It would be great to use sign textures like the City names. Have Fun

yeah sure you are right the .338 is for CTRG and the .408 was missing. Perhaps we get some armor piercing rounds like CSAT has for the Lynx for the M320 as well.

i do not understand why in a futuristic setting playing in 2035 someone should be interested in a weapon design that is 80 years old. We had this weapon in OFP as the M21 and with exception of Armed Assault in all versions of the game in some way or another. The logistic chain for each faction is - :butbut: complicated now. NATO will have from light to heavy: Pistols in 9 mm and .45, SMG´s in .45, carbines and rifles in 6.5 mm, 2 marksman rifles in 7.62, one LMG in 6.5 mm, one SPMG in .338 norma and a sniper rifle in .338 lapua. Heavy MG in 12.7. No medium MG and no heavy Sniper rifle e.g. for Anti Material. edit: The .408 of the M320 was missing. This has no APDS rounds for anti-material use at the moment. CSAT will have pistols and SMG in 9 mm a revolver in .45, Carbines and Rifles in 6.5, A marksman rifle in 7.62, A marksman rifle in 9.3. One MG in 7.62, one MG in 9.3. Two sniper rifles in 12.7 ??? Heavy MG in 12.7. AAF will have pistols in .45, SMG in 9 mm, carbines and rifles in 5.56, a marksman rifle in 7.62, LMG in well at the moment 6.5 mm, a sniper rilfe in 12.7 mm. tank mounted MG in 6.5 mm, Heavy MG in 12.7. NATO will have to support about 7 different ammunition classes, CSAT 6 and AAF 6. edit: Actually NATO has to support 8 ammunition types with the M320 I am not really unhappy with the chosen weapons but the arsenals of the factions look not planned and selected top down like in real life. I would have expected more long range sniper rifles and hope for an update on the new Ghillie suit that was mentioned. I hope it can be combined with a backpack as the sniper rifles included are mainly light enough to be combined with other equipment.

    France General

what do you think of the recent Paris Drone sightings ? For the second night in a row several drones have been reported over central Paris. What I find interesting is the number and/ or endurance of these things. There were reports that it might be a single vehicle but I have not heard from a quadcopter that has an endurance of 6 hours. Not even the Darter can fly for that long... The typical personal UAV can fly from 20-50 minutes as far as I know. So there must be several people taking care of these birds in order to be active from midnight to 6 AM. Any thoughts ? Are there videos or photos of the UAV´s ? A "Drone-Interceptor" is being designed and tested in France. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2948062/The-drone-catcher-France-reveals-flying-net-stop-terrorists-flying-bomb-laden-gadgets-nuclear-power-stations-following-spate-sightings.html Information on the sightings: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11433746/Unidentified-drones-reappear-over-Paris-for-second-night.html http://www.thelocal.fr/20150224/at-least-five-drones-fly-over-paris-during-night http://www.thelocal.fr/20150225/more-drones-paris-second-night

    Sling Loading Feedback

Thank you for the feedback. @Fennek: Maybe you are right and you have a good point with the trailer. I would even be glad if it is realistic to lift our submarine with a medium class helicopter but as I said I have my doubts it would weigh less than a UGV with 5 tons. There are some helicopters listed for transport of the real world SDV in the specs but heavier ones: "In addition to surface ship and submarine, other platform Mk 8 SDV can be deployed from also includes CH-47 Chinook & CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters." Here is a photo of a Chinook lifting a SDV: http://www.kaiowas.co.uk/images/chinook.jpg In GTA5 you can lift a Submarine that has the same size as the helicopter which is ridiculous if you think of the weight of that thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBcTPpajsiA @MordeaniisChaos: As you said the exact dry weight of this craft is hard or maybe impossible to find for a non-pressurized wet submarine based on displacement - and our version is smaller than the Mk8 Mod1 and has a higher design water line. I will be looking in this interesting master thesis on the design of a wet SDV: Design and Analysis of a non-pressurized manned submersible: http://www.google.de/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=7&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CFMQFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdspace.mit.edu%2Fbitstream%2Fhandle%2F1721.1%2F67796%2F767826253.pdf%3Fsequence%3D1&ei=S3QQVK_5M4LnaIutgvAL&usg=AFQjCNH04D-KGvr3nTAZjvKOWV41eg1ZhA We will probably not be able to find a realistic weight for the SDV. What matters is we will have great fun with sling loads and towing things like boats and cars around which works quite well. Some more interesting related links: A conventional dry submarine is a very compact and heavy object if you compare the weight and size of these ship-classes with the same surface displacement (56m to 87m). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_212_submarine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowind-class_corvette Here is an interesting Overview of future special forces SDV´s and boats: http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2013SOFIC/PEOMaritimePortfolioBriefWed.pdf At the end of this Video is a RHIB sling loaded by a Chinook and the crew fast-ropes in:

    Sling Loading Feedback

Difficulty: I am also used to the DCS sling loads but I am quite impressed by the work so far Usability: What impressed me most is the easy way the AI uses it. It would be great if the approach to the waypoints would be faster though. I have my doubts if a Ghosthawk would be able to lift the SDV - though I like it. Usually a submarine is a very heavy object compared to its size. The real SDV Mark 8 Mod 1 displaces 17 tons and the dry weight would not be much less. The SDV in Arma 3 carries only 4 instead of 6 people but would weigh probably much more than a UGV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEAL_Delivery_Vehicle Here are the specifications: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.479085872113472.108634.381728241849236&type=3 Multiplayer: Not tested This is a very good teaser for the upcoming DLC. Looking forward to roll-out.

Two weeks ago the artillery exchange, then the drones and now one of the passengers of the sunken South Korean ferry Sewol says: "There was a bang and then the ship suddenly tilted over" http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/apr/16/south-korea-ferry-sewol-disaster-chaotic-scenes-boat I hope I am wrong but this sounds suspicious. UAVs: Feedback and wishes

I would like to see a more survivable UAV - a stealthy UCAV like the X45c, X47B, NeuroN, Filur or Taranis (new images today: http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,21412.msg211400.html?PHPSESSID=fr9avu3ukv4859nk4tsbaligp6#new) with two bombs like the GBU31. At the moment I use the GBU31 from the great F18 attached to the Swedish Forces Pack UCAV http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Uwm8AEpNkms/Uld1dNDC8OI/AAAAAAAAS44/8CRA7NN9pXI/s1600/arma3_swedish_forces_mod_ucav23.jpg . As the UAV´s leave the altitude of 2000 m when they attack they are easily killed. It would be great to have a stealthy UAV or at least let them stick to the defined height. It would be great to have a bigger Bomb than the 500lb´s we had for so long. Why not make an air bursting bomb increasing the damage radius and avoiding the problem of rendering a crater at the same time? I would also like to see other unmanned classes for ship, diver and mine detection on or below the water level: Blackfish unmanned surface vehicle http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2017655/Blackfish-The-robotic-jet-ski-underwater-patrolling-harbours-terrorists.html Autonomous underwater vehicles like the Scion´s patrolling underwater robot published in Michael Welham´s book Combat Frogmen that could slowly patrol or sit silently on a "landing gear" on the bottom of the sea and when a target was detected by sonar attack divers, submarines or ships driven by waterjet up to 50kn and ramming into the target. It would be great to use the heat haze effect we have in Arma 3 for a waterjet. Those two new unmanned classes would enable a new field of addons for the armaverse

I would like a map based on Iceland or the Falkland Islands. A wide open terrain not slowing down our PC´s but different from the deserts. Many rocks and grass like we already have in the greek islands punctured with snow or glaciers and mountains. :)
  16. You can open doors remotely with the Darter UAV and the UGV´s and drive/ fly inside the domes. It is fun but I do not think it makes sense without a remotely operated arm on these Rovers. Tested a few hours ago before the update.

Take On Mars - New BIS Game

That is fantastic. I have been using the Orbiter Space Simulator and OFP/ ARMA since 2001 and like this setting. 18. The maps and units are really superb. I had a lot of crashes and bugs unfortunately and could not go for the classnames yet. I found a nice weapon. I would appreciate if someone finds the time to post the classnames. Please fix the serious bugs as fast as you can so that ordinary players do not give up disappointed right after launch. This game has great potential. By the way a lot of retailers place new games in the shelfs during the day before launch. This is how I got OFP and all the ARMA games early.

    ArmA3 Wishlist and Ideas

the technology described here is called counter illumination that started in military aviation for low observable technology in the optical spectrum. It has been around for a while and many companies are working on it now as this will be very important in only a few years. BAE Systems is the first company to go public about it and uses the E-Ink technology similar to the one used in electronic newspapers for changing colors and metallic heating plates in the IR spectrum. Other technologies are also used or developed. Here is some more information: Here an article from 2008 showing some early results from a flight test. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2008/05/invisible-drone/ another article "hiding in plane sight" from 1997 http://jmrc.tripod.com/fa/stealth/stealth1.htm an article on Boeing´s activities http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_hb3126/is_668_57/ai_n28969738/ here a documentation mentioning a test on a british tank http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0_SHeD-tSY an article on the tank developments: Published January 18, 2011

    Bin Laden Is Dead

after the pieces slowly come together my respect for the potential scale and bravery of the operation grows more and more. This was probably the most important and daring special operation in recent years. As the stakes were high as can be and the preparation took many years some equipment may have been specially designed for this mission (Sir Barnes Neville Wallis did this in another global war before). We may have seen a historic raid similar to the raids on Eben Emael 1940, the Pegasus Bridge 1944, Son Tay 1970 or Entebbe 1976. (see airborne raids: http://www.airpower.au.af.mil/airchronicles/aureview/1984/mar-apr/shani.html) The following is far-fetched speculation on events a few nights ago based on some facts: The stealthy "Beast of Kandahar" (RQ 170 Desert Prowler) makes much more sense now in this context for stealthy ELINT or relais purposes in Pakistan: http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/the-dewline/2011/05/report-rq-170-spied-over-osama.html The question why there were F22 fighters in the middle east that did not take part in the Libya operations may have been answered: http://aviationintel.com/?p=556 How did the unknown Helicopter look like and what did it potentially do?: Not well known photos of the tail section providing scale information: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?197635-The-mysterious-helicopter-involved-in-the-Osama-Bin-Laden-raid/page23 Silenthawk concept aircraft: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=155097 http://i56.tinypic.com/2zqr4us.jpg other designs http://cencio4.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/black-helo-down/ http://up-ship.com/blog/?p=9714 The unknown helicopter landed in the compounds "trash burning location" (http://media.star-telegram.com/smedia/2011/05/02/11/BinLaden.standalone.prod_affiliate.58.jpg) inside the 10 feet wall as can be seen on Sat-pictures taken 10 hours after the raid: http://maptd.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/geoeye-abbottabad-satellite-image-zoomed-in1.jpg crash landing a helicopter in a compound was done before in the assault phase Operation Kingpin of Operation Ivory Coast - the Son Tay Raid of 1970 to get an assault team of 14 men in quickly. I would expect this to be much faster than fast roping more like an assault glider raid in WW2. Details on Son Tay: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Ivory_Coast http://home.earthlink.net/~aircommando1/SONTAYRA1.htm Let´s even go a step further: Why were the tail rotor blades not damaged on impact ? It almost looks that those were not turning on impact: http://sitelife.aviationweek.com/ver1.0/Content/images/store/0/14/8065b635-752f-4a63-ae97-84beaff28a19.Full.jpg Most tail rotors have an override clutch that is used in the case of autorotation to stop the tail rotor using up valuable kinetic energy of the main rotor. Deliberately autorotating a (damaged or undamaged ?) stealthy helicopter inside a compound with armed terrorists and a very high value target would be one of the most unusual special operations there ever was. It is hard to imagine a noise and LO treated helicopter coming in to land from high above silently in a HALO mode without engine noise and the interaction of the rotors and dropping the initial assault team. see a video (loud) of a helicopter assault on a compound similar to Casa Osama (see the helicopters arriving at 1:14) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-eA_7dSTDQ&feature=fvst See a Video for Autorotation training on spot landing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2a9H8Xw8Mo&feature=related listen to the noise of a noise treated main rotor blade: Eurocopter Blue Edge Rotor Listen to the sound during autorotation: http://exposureroom.com/members/paulcronin/ba4943104eec42589941f87b5624914c/ I do not know if the Blackhawk stops turning it´s tail rotor during autorotation: OPERATOR’S MANUAL FOR UH-60Q HELICOPTER http://www.flyboys.com.br/flyboy/acervo/Manuais/Helicopteros/UH-60Q%20Blackhawk%20Operator%20Manual.pdf This silent approach makes operational sense and I would like to "Take On" this crazy mission BI ! :)
