New Rules are available on http://www.bistudio.com/english/community/game-content-usage-rules http://www.bistudio.com/english/community/monetization e.g. http://www.bistudio.com/english/community/monetization/youtube http://www.bistudio.com/english/community/monetization/twitch the rules are simpler, they cover wider range and are less annoyance for all involved parties (us, content creator and the service) previous rules: the PDFs are now obsolete too ...

Server ability : URL forwarding of MISSION content
Dwarden posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
I'm creating this thread with poll to obtain some feedback on one 'possible' feature for ArmA 2 (with very rare chance this to appear also for ArmA 1) server / client. Original thread with POLL was here : http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=57;t=77288 The feature is option for server to define file source forward for MP missions content (HTTP) and client's ability to download that content then from defined source. Description: The Arma 1 (and most likely 2 too) engine could easily support this feature , as MISSION related content is possible to load after engine start (contrary to map or other type of game changeable content like models). So technically this feature would require that instead of downloading MISSION file from ArmA *1/2 game server directly there will be inserted of small&simple portion of code telling game to download file from server defined URL location (if enabled server side). The routine about file placement and check if present/loadable etc. is then same/similar to already existing part of code. i split the poll into these sections tho i would like users to post with comments why they for or against this useful feature: 1. server admin/owner/donator + support this feature 2. just user + supporting this feature 3. anyone against this feature thanks everyone for taking part p.s. once again just in other words for these who not understand above actual situation : 1. client w/o mission establish connection with server 2. mission file is downloaded from server using server-client connection 3. when mission file is downloaded and not corrupt then client loads it into memory and enters missions positivies: + already done negatives: - will use bandwidth block of game server for mission distribution instead of game traffic - try imagine popular public server with 1k Unique Users / week download several 5MB missions ...ouch proposed situation: 1. client w/o mission establish connection with server 2. server tells client there is possible download location at http://www.somewebsite.net/folder/arma2mission.pbo (this part must be coded in) 3. clients starts wget on background and waits for error code or timeout on error code (this part must be coded in) 4. if error code is success then file is placed into mission directory like usual and loaded as usual (code already present ingame) 5. if file not match (already code present ingame) or if error code is fail / timeout then client may fall-back to try download from server using already existing method (this part must be coded in with reusing already present code) 6. when mission file is downloaded and not corrupt then client loads it into memory and enters mission *not need to use external opensource wget and use own portion of code, it was just example negatives: - some code must be added but not much (as most of code needed is already in) positives: + offloading the mission download to different source than gameserver ... -
Arma 3 STABLE Server 2.18 "profiling / performance binary" feedback
Dwarden posted a topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
NOTE: 2.18. PROF/PERF up! you don't need a new client on the PERF/PROF server! there is a branch on steam you may use, but beware that sometimes data on Dropbox are newer due to manual build e.g. on weekend: Servers (down, up only if needed): PERF = STABLE branch compatible, no debug layer, no #captureFrame nor diag_captureFrame PROF = STABLE branch compatible, with debug layer, with #captureFrame / diag_captureFrame possible server fps increases and clients may experience higher fps too downloads- 2666 replies

How to change Arma 3 branches between STABLE & DEVELOPMENT versions @STEAM client
Dwarden posted a topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
All installs are set to the stable version of the game by default. To change this: 1. In your Steam client, go to the Library and right (mouse button) click on Arma 3 2. Select Properties (from context menu) 3. Select the Betas tab 4. 4.Choose either NONE for the Stable version or DEVelopment for the release candidate version of the game 5.Click Close in the lower-right corner of the window Using the development version of the game could hamper your experience with the game, with some unfinished assets available. However, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. We intend this to involve you more directly in the development process and give you the opportunity to affect the final game. Your feedback and bug reports are welcome and can help us to improve the game significantly. Please visit http://feedback.arma3.com/ to learn how to submit feedback. Thank you kindly for your support! video tutorial from http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?183552-Tutorial-Arma-3-RC-Branch-Install-and-Connecting-to-Testing-Servers -

about performance drops caused by STEAM and how mitigate them from my own experience this is what eats most CPU from highest to lowest 1. STEM friend-list (even while online, just closing friend-list saves most CPU usage) 2. STEAM chats (the more of them active the worse the overall load) 3. STEAM updating (as uses checksums it needs some CPU and I/O, so make sure nothing is updating) 4. STEAM overlay 5. STEAM IM (switch yourself to OFFLINE for lowest CPU usage) 6. STEAM website (if you keep website open and minimize, it still keeps playing the flash animations for example, so ideally you visit e.g. your profile page as last) + then set STEAM to lower priority than arma3.exe + Avast! antivirus users (but same rules can be used for other AV) shall read : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=116952.0 + this is what i use ``` "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -silent -nochatui -nofriendsui -console -no-browser ``` it allows run STEAMclient w/o new UI/chat/friends/popup/browser bloat (especially those 200+ popups i can't disable about group/friends invites) it's very effective for fast testing (as someone who is game industry it's double important) for advanced gamer it saves some CPU / GPU cycles and some RAM / VRAM space even less stressing your SSD it avoids the STEAM browser cluttering the disk space with cache growing out of control when i want buy / discuss something i use reliable web browsers and when i want to join the chats/friends i just start it w/o those switches there are some more compatibility switches like -complete_install_via_http -tcp which may help in more firewall strict networked environment

IMPORTANT ! It's always better to uninstall previous beta! (if You fail to uninstall it erase beta subdirectory inside ARMA 2 directory) WARNING! It's recommended to restart You mission instead of using save from older version or previous betas! NOTE! Beta installer create shortcut inside ARMA 2 directory to launch beta properly. The tricky part is that the game is started with commandline: Drive:Path\ARMA 2\beta\arma2.exe -mod=beta but in start in path Drive:Path\ARMA 2\ INFO: Installer claims it updating on version 1.04, ignore it updating the \beta\ directory content Uninstaller claims it removed version 1.03 ignore it as it should remove \beta\ directory content PROBLEM: Uninstalling beta may result into removal of ARMA 2 symlink / junction directory link (hopefully not whole directory) IF anyone experience whole ARMA 2 directory erase on uninstall please report ASAP thx FIX / WORKAROUND for the beta failing to install on STEAM build: use registry editor add registry key into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 create new String value name it "MAIN" (w/o "") then place into it same content like is already in key "path" (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ARMA 2" w/o "" again) that's all and now the installer sees Your STEAM game ...

Preliminary How To Host dedicated server of Project Argo
Dwarden posted a topic in ARGO - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
Following steps shall help you to setup Project Argo dedicated server: 0. dedicated server data package STEAM appid = 563930 , param for steamCMD "-beta server" , size only ~3 GB 1. most of steps is like for Arma 3 dedicated server (configs, folder/file-structure, command-line parameters) https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Dedicated_Server 2. no BattlEye (only on official servers) 3. no callExtension (disabled altogether) 4. no control over difficulty settings 5. not yet dedicated server data package (to be decided) 6. no linux dedicated server 7. new server.cfg setting: autoSelectMission = true; // reports mission inside mission cycle even before first player join the server 8. new server.cfg setting for timeouts (details in https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/140837-development-branch-changelog/page-46#entry3115444 ) votingTimeOut = 30; roleTimeOut = 45; briefingTimeOut = 20; debriefingTimeOut = 30; 9. new server setting which allows missions from Missions class to be selected randomly (with equal probability), only rule is that two successive missions are always different (with exeption of one mission in the list). class Missions { randomOrder = true; class mission1 { template = "mission1.VR"; }; class mission2 { template = "mission2.VR"; }; }; 10. there are three mission cycle mission names (3 scenarios) {since 0.73 all locations are available in data) class Missions { class ProjectArgoMission01 { template = "MP_ARGO_Raid_Airfield.Abel"; //actual missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Raid_La_Trinite.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Raid_MOUT.Abel"; //aprevious missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Raid_Radio_Station.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Raid_Le_Port.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Raid_AA_Site.Abel"; //previous missions }; class ProjectArgoMission02 { template = "MP_ARGO_Conf_Larche.Abel"; //actual missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Conf_La_Trinite.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Conf_Cancon.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Conf_Sainte_Marie.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Conf_Le_Port.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Conf_La_Riviere.Abel"; //previous missions }; class ProjectArgoMission03 { template = "MP_ARGO_Link_Le_Port.Abel"; //actual missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Link_Sainte_Marie.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Link_Cancon.Abel"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Link_Arudy"; //previous missions //template = "MP_ARGO_Link_Airfield.Abel"; //previous missions }; }; 11: Update 0.75 added new New server settings ARGOMissionVoteType = "MissionType"; //Either Clash or Raid depends on the gamemode you want to run ARGOMissionVote = true; // allows people to vote for next map after game ends For Raid And Clash both of these settings need to be present in server.cfg. For mixed you only need to use ARGOMissionVote = true; 12: Update 0.75 also added hardcore mode to enable it paste the following line to server.cfg forcedDifficulty = "Hardcore"; 13: Update 0.76 added new server settings for Inactivity and TeamKilling kickTeamKill = 2; kickInactive = 60; -

the ban is valid and that extra information only confirmed it as valid

quiet? i told you 21st July in DM that i checked and confirmed the ban is valid ... also in this answer https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/235331-banned-by-game-developer/?do=findComment&comment=3442933 i explained why Valve calls those bans developer bans but it's normal BattlEye Global ban
-
and you got your answer via DM

Game Bans on STEAM are any form of 3rd party bans approved by Valve in case of Arma 2: OA and 3 and DayZ those are global BattlEye bans in case of other games it can be e.g. EAC bans (the anticheat now owned by Epic Games) provide your STEAM id or BattlEye GUID so we can look up the reason of the ban anyway the OP states that global bans are never reversed, that's misleading as false positives if they happen, are corrected by BE team with unbans
