Von_Lipwig 10 Posted July 15, 2010 I just put this in the init line (if I remember correctly):this setvariable ["townsize",5000]; this setvariable ["housecount",2000]; It took my poor i5 750 @3Ghz around 10 minutes or so to finish generating/loading all the houses. It was generating while I was flying around ingame. THIS! How could I forget. :) Thanks, that should work.
gladiatorr 10 Posted July 15, 2010 Next quesstion: is it possible to start with a plaine or a helicopter IN the air and not on the ground??
galzohar 31 Posted July 15, 2010 #1 problem with the module is that buildings in Arma 2 are often all messed up if they're not spawned on 100% flat terrain, as you'll easily see if you use the module anywhere (other than a big flat airfield) and walk around the generated town. Not to mention I'm not sure how to properly have enemies in the town - If I place enemies in the editor won't buildings spawn on their heads and kill them? If not, will they mess up the building placement? And then to top it all off there are the performance issues (loading times), which is weird since my script spawning 150 buildings on the airfield in Chernarus didn't seem to take as long to run. For starting in the air double click your vehicle and in "Special" pick "FLYING".

galzohar 31 Posted July 15, 2010 Which is almost as bad, considering if there is no way down they usually just jump down as soon as they need to move somewhere :(
jakerod 254 Posted July 15, 2010 Which is almost as bad, considering if there is no way down they usually just jump down as soon as they need to move somewhere :( Depends on what building they are on. If there is a ladder or stairs they normally go down the right way. I never got to find out... I killed them with an LGB.
galzohar 31 Posted July 15, 2010 Yeah if there is a way down they often use it, but there isn't always one, so there isn't really a safe placement method :( I wonder if the fixed building positions. In Arma 2 many building positions would cause the AI to clip through the building and get killed as a result quite often when you setPos them to a buildingPos, and to be safe you had to place them outside and give them a doMove instead. Von_Lipwig 10 Posted July 15, 2010 You can always set down a town generator module and then have some enemies a little way off, and make them move into the town by means of waypoints. That might make sure you have no placement worries. :)
DarkMater 10 Posted July 15, 2010 Does it place streets or roads in the city, vs just having desert? Can you sync civilian/vehicle module with a town and have it populate them in the city in a meaningful way?

katipo66 94 Posted July 15, 2010 Dont have OA yet! i like the sound of this module... you can achieve this in A2 with DAC, it throws down forests, objects and buildings in one zone that can cover the whole island :)
[GLT] Legislator 66 Posted July 16, 2010 It can be populated by civilians but no vehicles or roads will spawn with the town... just houses on desert ground. Vehicles can be spawned by the Civilian Car module. The vehicles will spawn in Town generator-villages as well.

I've never seen it spawn any cars in the generated towns yet... will keep an eye out though.

Imperator[TFD] 444 Posted July 28, 2010 If you place the town generator on a road however, it won't place any buildings on the road itself. So you can have a road running through the town and then all the other buildings near by are just on whatever surface you placed the module.
