SuperStarwolf 10 Posted July 1, 2010 Just like that! Same way some game modes allow teamplay points for healing teammates and every single player scores for making the enemy die for his country, why not allow pilots that move troops from A to B to have a share too? I like the pilot role in all its aspects: Gunships, transports... Even wreck picking! But I'm aware that only combat helicopters such as the AH64 award a decent ammount of points in multiplayer games; Most of those have either restricted access to these choppers to clan members or they don't even use combat helicopters at all... If you like to be a pilot, your only choices are to be one and earn a marginal ammount of points, or don't be one. Personally, I think teleporting to MHQs is a realism killer: There are transport choppers, and they should be used... But that's just my opinion. I like to be a pilot and I find interesting to transport troops and vehicles to the Area of Operations, but at the end of the game, whether I have done a good job or not, I always score what the gunners took down if they ever had the chance, which is a rather dissapointing score. I mean, why don't get points for doing my part? Thanks for listening :)
mattxr 9 Posted July 1, 2010 This game isnit about raking up points tbh! /All i gotta say!
celery 8 Posted July 1, 2010 Everything depends on the mission you play. Some missions have MHQs, some give points for healing and at least Domination gives points to transport pilots.
SuperStarwolf 10 Posted July 1, 2010 I know it's not about ranking, but some game modes require you to have a certain rank to unlock other features in the game session, and to achieve rank you have to score points... As long as I've played, I haven't seen any transport pilot getting points by moving troops, only by the kills made by his gunners, and honestly, the guns in a MH60 can't do much. Note I'm referring to the MH60 as the prime example of a transport chopper.
HyperU2 11 Posted July 1, 2010 I'm pretty sure EVO for ARMA had this. I flew transport frequently and my score did change.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 1, 2010 Personally, I think teleporting to MHQs is a realism killer: There are transport choppers, and they should be used... Well, aren't respawn also a realism killer? And respawnable vehicles? Transport choppers as only means of transportation doesn't work unless there are quite a few on the server. Some missions are meant to support "lurking"; do what you like while you wait for other players, including playing the mission solo if need be. Scoring for transport doesn't really make sense unless the mission handles it specifically. Give me one set of "rules" for scoring that would work in all circumstances, and I'll probably be able to break it down why it wouldn't work somewhere else. Frankly I don't like the scoreboard at all. It makes coop competitive, and makes the actual mission less important for too many.
celery 8 Posted July 1, 2010 Frankly I don't like the scoreboard at all. It makes coop competitive, and makes the actual mission less important for too many. I've thought about the score board thing and come to the conclusion that by default the only thing a player should score a point for is killing an enemy soldier, forgetting about vehicle bonuses since they can be empty and get destroyed only for scoring purposes. Of course indirect kills such as disabling a helicopter and delayed tank explosions should be detected.
HyperU2 11 Posted July 1, 2010 I just blew up an objective (water tower) in Dom and got demoted and -2 armored vehicles added to my score. Yeah, I'd rather not have it.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted July 1, 2010 @HyperU2: Sounds like a bug. Either in Dom or in the game. @Celery: Yeah I agree.
HyperU2 11 Posted July 1, 2010 It happens from time to time, I don't really mind. Likely the game, Dom is the only place I notice scores.
giorgygr 61 Posted July 1, 2010 (edited) @Carl I TOTALLY agree about the scorecard brings trouble. In my 90% of ArmA time i m playing PvP..and in most cases (if no all) the player hunts for score and NO for objectives..and also "camps" more often in any mode. I can imagine,if the scorecard doesn't existed, the whole "ArmA" would have been a totally different experience for all of us.. SuperStarwolf 10 Posted July 1, 2010 Well, I was proposing a score for transport pilots just so the job could be as attractive as any combatant's... If everything is just as unattractive, suits me just fine :P
HyperU2 11 Posted July 1, 2010 It's not all that unattractive depending on my mood. :) I spent a lot of time ferrying troops on ARMA, I don't really find anyone online that needs a lift anymore though. It was never about score for me, but with the ranking it helped to gain a little so you could fly the blackhawks.
PuFu 4600 Posted July 1, 2010 @Carl I TOTALLY agree about the scorecard brings trouble. You do know that you can dissable the scoreboard server side, dont you? Back on topic: score for transport pilots is possible, depends on mission and mission creator vision. This being under A2/OA suggestion subforum, is it directed towards BI then? If som why would they enforce such a thing for the whole MP environment in the first place? Some of us couldn't care less about score..
*LK1* 10 Posted July 2, 2010 ....... i like the idea.
Iroquois Pliskin 0 Posted July 3, 2010 There used to be a proper scoring system in Evolution in Armed Assault 1, you know back when we didn't have magical HQ teleportation. Flying transport helis, especially the MH6 into battlezone for an extra hot LZ was actually fun. More importantly, this promoted teamwork, believe or not - on public servers. So, either disable HQs if you're playing Domination, migrate to Evo (oh, no this one has HQs now). But regarding the OP topic Evolution has the best system, AFAIK you can disable HQs in lobby @ mission parameters, but no one seems to playing it anymore. Domi everywhere - lack of will? eggbeast 3685 Posted July 9, 2010 I'm pretty sure EVO for ARMA had this. I flew transport frequently and my score did change. it still has, it's just that the distance check is 5,000m... i could make it lower...and yes, you can take of the mhq's in lobby, especially with revive on... Evolution w/out HQ, with revive on and MH6s (lots of em :D) is a lot more 'coop' than domination ever was.
Darkhorse 1-6 16 Posted July 10, 2010 What everybody here is missing, is that this is not a problem or an issue with a BIS product. This is a Mission specific problem. I never saw a score system on any of the BIS missions. Or the Editor, or the campaign. The score system is in domination, evolution, warfare, and the rest.
Inkompetent 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Sure is mission specific, and please leave it like that. Better with mission makers being in control of their environment when as relatively easily manipulated as this, than having to struggle against complex built-in systems.
