This bug is really annoying me now, I get it way too often and it is a serious game breaker, Id like it to be given high priority to be fixed in the next series of Beta patches.

It is on Dev heaven but has a pathetic 7 votes, which find very surprising as its such a game play breaker. If you get this bug please vote.

add to the discussion there if you have anything enlightening.

I see it happen if i JIP on a DOm server... tho very rare, and i see it Respawning, and or Aborting and choosing a new slot, In a COOP, always after a JIP though... rare. have to close the Game down and then start rejoin to get rid of it, and that didnt even work once... only a full restart of the mission is a true cure.

yeah it happens if you join MP then leave and then rejoin the same or another server, WITHOUT exiting first to desktop. dunno why.

Yep. *Very* annoying. It's been discussed since release (although you may have a hard time finding a thread on the topic). Common to both ATI and nVidia cards. Usually reported in MP. Usually on a persistant dedicated server. Usually during an on-going mission.

*also somehow releated to continuiously flying tires....boing, boing, boing)

I used to think it was a sign of instablity that appeared after some time, but lately I've seen it appear on a server just moments after a mission had begun.

I know what causes this sky fire on my modified domination games running on a persistent dedicated server.

If a friendly vehicle is destroyed, JIP players see the skyfire in the direction of the wreck.

Recovering the wreck with the wreck chopper and taking it to vehicle rebuild point will clear the sky fire.

I nice quick fix is to hot left shift and press the minus "-" key on your numpad, then immediately type out "flush" on your keyboard and it will get ride of the fire bug instead of restarting your entire game.

A flush clears it? I thought I'd tried that, but I'll go and have another go.

Its a script thingy...

Happens on maps that have repair stations (or whatever they are)... ie domo, evo and all the other similar shitful maps.

From the creator of Dom...oh and your opinion on the mission is not relevant, pls lets not start that here..thanks

The fire in the sky bug is not Dom only :)

It's an ArmA 2 bug that happens because of the way some effects are transfered over the net (setVehicleInit, the ArmA 2 effect scripts use them to start effects like burning, etc) that may result in wrong or not correctly initialized variables for JIP clients.

Sadly those SVIs get even transfered to JIP clients for allready deleted vehicles (because clearVehicleInit doesn't work for processed inits).

That bug happened to me once, it looked like a forest fire. It indeed happened in a mission with repair / refuel / rearm pads, "Russian Occupation".

Hm, I have a theory - could it be that the server is running JTD's smoke effects resulting in those who aren't using it seeing something like this? It just looks like they could be related to me.

I've found 2 things.

#1 - It occurs with enemy vehicles as well

#2 - It happened in ArmA 1 (I think it did. I remember paraiso in flames)

@Zipper: Nah, I don't actually know any servers who run JTD smoke. Unless they are a part of ACE. Great mod though.

No, we eliminated that possibility while trying to track this down.

.

I don't disbelieve you, but I've only ever seen it happen with friendly vehicles.

Uh no, its a Bis thing, JIP, and is now mostly from some vehicle enemy or friendly. It was just that on Dom servers that I see it take the whole horizon, as where on COOP maps its coming from a vehicle and is still way huge in comparison to a "normal" burn, AND it wasnt burning for the players who where there when the vehicle was destroyed. I have even destroyed a BMP3 (ACE2 no burn), come back in the game, and its a huge fire, while everybody else cant see it, except for ANY new JIP. It does go way after awhile Where as on Doms it seems to haunt you forever.

I've gotten the fire bug on JIP as well. I've tried the video flush trick multiple times, and it does not clear it for me. It does eventually go away though, and not last forever.

we get it a lot on evolution - in fact i had it last night because my player initialisation failed cos it took so long to join the server (had some boradband probs) so i exited the JIP and then reconnected and bang - got the fire. will try the flushing tip and report back if it helps too.

One of my players got it last night in Domination, he tried flushing, but it didn't clear until the dead vehicle that caused it was recovered.

Confirmed, flush does not cure the flame issue - only repairing the wreck that was burning when the player entered the server removes it.
