Mass Effect 2

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone bought/played Mass Effect 2 or is planing to do so. I'm currently thinking about it but since I don't trust gaming mags anymore I'd rather ask. :)

Y2O-0-fQOOs

This is the launch trailer and since I'm a real fan of SciFi themes I enjoyed it very much. But I'm wondering if the game has as many story elements as implicated by this trailer. I don't wanna shoot everything thats moving...Some real RPG elements would be nice :)

Mass Effect is one of the best games I've played, the story and dialogue is incredibly well done. Can't wait to afford ME2. It's pretty much a safe bet since a reliable gaming mag (Pelit) already gave an extremely positive verdict. They say the combat and rpg mechanics are further simplified which is a minor letdown, but the rest of the experience is still excellent and raises the bar even higher.

ME is a great game, but mainly because of the storyline, script, and overall immersion. It is one of those games where you want the crappy shooting to end fast, so you can explore more, and get some conversations going

Personally I rather liked the "crappy shooting". As long as you don't think of it as an fps game, the combat fits very well in the game if you think about how else to implement various skills and equipment that actually make a difference in a fight. In any case, ME2 has a much more fps oriented combat style.

I've been playing it pretty constantly for the past week, taking breaks to play Arma 2 occasionally.

It's lke Mass Effect 1 but 10x better. The side stories and back stories are very complex if you're willing to listen to all the conversations (and it's worth it, plays out like a full epic sci-fi series)

The combat has improved a lot too.

As for the length, you can shoot through the game pretty fast, at least I think you can, took about 7 or 8 hours I was pretty much asked if I wanted to continue on to the end of the game, but if you avoid ending the game you can spend hours going around doing side quests (I'm on about 25 hours and still have a lot of side quests to do), and the side quests all help you in beefing up you team, firepower, etc.

If you played Dragon Age, the story style and side quests play out like that, just with more depth and in space.

first one was one of the best games i ever played (PC version) second one was pretty good but somehow i felt less invested in the characters and less immerssed than the first time around. Forgive my crappy spelling long day.

I think they took some good steps away from ME1's irritating parts, only thing that would've made it better, for me, is if the suicide mission lasted longer. It felt like a whole lot of preparation for a very short segment of gameplay. Played with a ME1 imported paragon soldier Shepard, ended the game with the "blue" ending, and everyone alive.

Sniperwolf...can you pm me and let me know how you kept everyone alive. I don't want to put in any spoilers or anything but i lost 2 crew on the final mission. One i can live with the other was dear to me and died for apparently a reason i couldnt control.

Beat it already. It was a worthy sucessor.

During the ending I lost jack. Then I played again and didn't lose anyone. I played the ending both ways to see what happened as well.

Mass Effect was one of those few games that actually got me emotionally involved. Besides the opportunity to make a hideously ugly character and laugh when that awkward threesome conversation came along, running it seriously, with either paragon or renegade characters, was brilliant. Dialogue was superb, plot always kept my interest, and shit, you can choose to be a freakin' lesbian with an alien? Shit hot! (Never played as the female Shepard though, I appreciated "She'll stay with us, THENKS" too much).

I'm trying to dodge spoilers until my copy arrives. It's hard, but I've done well so far.

I really enjoyed it. Quite a cinematic experience with an epic plot, not as huge as Dragon Age ... albeit emotionally more involving imho. I really felt attached to the characters, mostly because you get to know them and their backgrounds pretty well while pursuing the storyline, which is all about assembling a team and taking them on what seems like a lost mission from the start. Can't find anything negative about it, other than what pufu already wrote. This game would have done equally well with less shooting, and more conversation/ exploration.

Going to have a 2nd run - just to see what i missed out on the first.

Mass Effect 2 is a wonderful Bioware game like Mass Effect 1 and/or Dragon Age or Neverwinter Nights and Baldurs Gate.

The epic storyline and a lot of different "main"-characters with their own interests etc. are a typical great Bioware Storywork,

Bioware have the skills that some "short" localized spoken! dialogs make you hate or love this characters.

Beware of the addictive Gameplay !

ME2 imho got some contras vs. the pros of better GFX and other Things in compare with ME1

- lesser roleplay and skills

- the scanning is to easy and boring after some time, it would be better (and more surprising) when anomalies have to found manually between the materials

I loved the driving with the "moon-buggy" and explore materials or sidemissions like in ME1, otherwise the anomalie levels are more variety in ME2.

A mix imho would be the perfectest balance.

A absolutly No-Go for me in all Bioware Games are invisible level barriers, i hate them in any type of game, it can't be a problem to set a Wall, dense Wilderness, permanently closed doors etc. that make crystal clear that here is no way !

Now i have to wait for new content and go back to ArmA2 modding. ;)

It felt like a whole lot of preparation for a very short segment of gameplay.

I found the game a tad disappointing just for this reason. It breaks with normal dramaturgy by making most of the game seem like a presentation of the characters.

A very long intro for Mass Effect 3 and barely anything else.. :bored:

The gameplay, on the other hand, was both entertaining and well-made. Much better then the first one. And the fact you got to use your old character was a really

big plus for me. Not the mention the dialog and the graphical part of the game. :)

That's what happens when people marry someone they don't share similar hobbies/interests with ;) My wife's as much a gamer as I am, fortunately. She's also as into fishing as me which is great for planning vacations (like Croatia last year and this) :)

Just to give you a good idea of how well your ME1 character will import:

ME1 (Colossus X FTW):

ME2 (working teh gunz):

ME2.jpg

Getting to level 60 becomes worth it. The continuity is pretty smooth too, although they get you to "confirm" things that happened in the original, it never seems too glaringly obvious.

yeh well i wish i hadnt killed the council in me1 now...but those bastards pissed me off. I guess i could have changed that at the start of me2 but it didnt feel right to mess with blowing up the entire governing body of space.

quick question...if you dont kill the council can you visit them again in me2 coz i got stuck just talking to anderson in his office the whole game.
