ladlon 10 Posted January 1, 2010 I'm wondering what mods (aside from ACE2) are recommended by the community? Does ACE2 not address certain things that other mods do? Ex. Sounds, graphics, etc? About the only 'complaint' I have with the vanilla Arma2 is the squad voices (the choppy 'made by separate pieces' quality that a lot of people are complaining about. Does ACE2 address that, or is there another mod that does a better job? I don't want to load up a TON of mods... just ones that are highly recommended, and really benefit the sim (...and nothing silly.... although I'm always cool with zombies!). Extra missions are not really necessary for me at this point, as I've only recently bought this sim... but feel free to mention any that you feel are really worthwhile. Thanks! Simon C 0 Posted January 1, 2010 ACE2 mutes the voices, which is handy. Here's a few I recommend to start with: JTD Fire and Smoke (If your computer can handle more effects, this is worth it, if it can't then you can still get this and tone it down a bit) Dynamic Sound AI HiFi A10 Soundpack TRSM Tracked Vehicle Sounds (The T72 sounds EPIC with this) This is by no means a comprehensive list, just a few that improve how the game looks and sounds. There is a ton of addons out there that add/improve the game, so take your time going through them all. :D
Roe-31stMEU- 10 Posted January 1, 2010 I use only a small number of decent mods right now that I'm happy with. I know you said besides Ace2, but Ace 2 is a big one, then I use JTD Smoke mod, WarFX(cant recall who made it ATM but if you search around you'll find it), I have the CAA1 and OAC as well as some ArmA 1 islands just for fun. I also use the VOP Sound mod, as well as the one that comes with ACE2 now, still feeling out the ACE Sounds so it's really just whatever I feel like using at that point in time. Ace is really the big kicker though. But yea, with ACE2, the smoke, WarFX, and your choice of a sound mod(if you dont wanna use the one that comes with Ace2) you get a pretty nice package. I don't think anything addresses the choppy voice thing. It's a lot better in ArmA2 then it was in ArmA1, but you just gotta live with it, or find a mod that disables the talking and just read the text. Maybe find a conversion mod with some soldiers of your choice, however the default US Marines are perfectly fine with me. Hope this helps you on your journey for the perfect mod set-up. domiS 10 Posted January 2, 2010 - GL4 a great mod with ACE, a must in my eyes. - sakudriver, improved pathfinder for vehicles (better moving system) - LandTex
Daniel 0 Posted January 2, 2010 Apart from ACE2, ACE Sound Mod, various British addons and maps. LandTex - http://armed-assault.de/news/landtex---landschafts-addon-released.html Night Lighting Effects - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7137 There's two subtle addons i'll hardly ever play without. Nazul 10 Posted January 2, 2010 PROPER projects addons are a must! http://dev-heaven.net/projects/show/proper-projects Everything from displaying more chat text on screen to having the AK's start in single fire mode instead of Full auto.
Binkowski 26 Posted January 2, 2010 ACE-2 (with ACEX). Anything made by Q with the PROPER projects. Some GDT stuff. HiFi is my favorite sound mod. Although there's many good ones out there. Zeus AI skills (ACE2 compatible )! Podagorsk is probably my favorite island. But there's some REALLY good ones out there. FROMZ's PLA Mod Operation Halfmoon. The rest is just player opinion / taste ;).
LJF 0 Posted March 18, 2010 PROPER projects addons are a must!http://dev-heaven.net/projects/show/proper-projects Everything from displaying more chat text on screen to having the AK's start in single fire mode instead of Full auto. [screws face up] ... but ... but .... but they're meant to start in full auto! :p My personal list is this (a short list :D): ACE2 - and all the bits like PLA and SM HiFi - Some awesome sounds Podagorsk - love that island GL4 - the effects and AI improvements are just ... must have Zeus AI (ACE version) - once again, significantly improves the AI WarFX - ok so not all that realistic but they're damned cool I'm basically trying to get ArmA2 as realistic as it can possibly be. Naturally ACE2 is the top of my list, but there are some great mods out there. But my ArmA2 folder is currently 26.6 gb so I've got a fairly good range of mods besides those ones above :)
ladlon 10 Posted April 29, 2010 Okay, me again after a lot of time has passed. I'm now looking into mods to install, but I'm still a bit torn... Seems like there's a lot of different opions on what is good. ACE2 is a no-brainer, so let's assume that I'm installing that. That being the case, what other mods would you guys say IN ADDITION to ACE2? I just don't want redundant mods that address stuff that ACE2 addresses (successfully) already.... unless they are significantly better. Also, for now, I'm looking for 'sensible, realistic' mods that either fix flawed things, make sounds/graphics more realistic, etc.... so please, no 'cool, but ultimately silly/unrealistic' type mods.... for now at least(!). As far as audio... It looks like either HiFi or Chammy(?).... Any opinions on these (or one that's better)? Does ACE2 not address audio? Zeus AI seems like another must have, as far as I can see from the posts... so that'll go in. Is GL4 redundant to that then, or addresses other stuff? Sorry, I know many of you have responded, and I'm noting all your answers... I just wanted to see what the current opinion is (now that time has passed). Inkompetent 0 Posted April 30, 2010 Zeus is nice imo. Then WarFX particles (but the latest version can't be had through Six Updater afaik, so you'll have to download it from the addon's thread here or on Armaholic I think). As for sound I'd actually stick with ACEX_SM. I consider that better than both HiFi and Chammy. I just like the sounds more overall, and the sounds are more consequent. In Chammy some shounds are sharp, loud and crisp, others are low thuds. Breaks the immersion with weapons sounding so completely different (mainly submachineguns sound totally out of place with Chammy. If you don't use them I guess it's an issue less ^^ ) Edit: Oh, and Okt Noblur. Awesome little thing that removes some blur effects from the postprocessing (for example so you don't get totally disoriented when turning around), while still letting one keep the HDR effects and stuff :)
pAuthority 10 Posted April 30, 2010 Too bad that many servers don't allow any extra addons except ACE and maybe server's own mappack. Noblur is awesome but should be allowed on all servers, it's a signed addon anyway.
ladlon 10 Posted April 30, 2010 I'm playing singleplayer exclusively, so I don't have to worry about keeping in sync with servers.
Evil_Echo 11 Posted April 30, 2010 Beginning to take a shine to Mando Missiles. A version used to be included in ACE1, but never made it to ACE2. Mando has done some very nice work to make his system ACE2 friendly though. Using the javelin is a joy with that addon. The air-to-air missiles, CCIP for some weapons, camera views, etc. equally impressive.
Nutlink 10 Posted May 2, 2010 Other than always having CBA/ACE/ACEX/ACEX_PLA/ACEX_SM going, I also run the following: Podagorsk - island Quesh Kibrul -island Sbrodj -island GL4 -as said before, almost required because it's so awesome GDT Sun mod - makes it so the sun isn't so unrealistically blinding, although something between this and stock would be much better IMO Isla Duala -island Japahto - island Kulima - island Celle - island Kellu - island Namalsk - island Panthera - island Saku's Light Fix - Makes night lighting look so much better Everon - island Aiaktalik - island Little Green Bag - island Little White Bag - island ShackTac HUD - great for that extra bit of teamwork Thirsk -island Almost all of these can be had straight from the Six Updater. I have a few others I use from time to time as well (WinterCamos, FFAA Civilians and FFAA Terrorists), but this is pretty much my "always on" list.
ladlon 10 Posted September 20, 2010 What's the deal now with ACE2? Is it ready yet? Every time I check, it seems to still be at 1.x... but maybe I'm misunderstanding the version number system. I want to install a 'stable' version, so I don't need to use the Six installer... I've been hearing horror stories (as well as rebuttles to the horror stories, saying they're nonsense). Does ACE (whatever version we have now) work with Combined Operations?
Evil_Echo 11 Posted September 20, 2010 1.3 was last version for plain old A2. You can get that version at Armaholic. 1.5 does now include a compatibilty mode for A2 missions. To track the current version you need some form of updater - ACE only make snapshots when they declare they've met a milestone.
Gunter Severloh 4087 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Most of the addons /mods mentioned are in my Arma2 version of WarMod, i would reccomend Ace2, GL4, JTD, Proper Projects, I could go on and on. alot of the stuff you can find on Armaholic: http://www.armaholic.com/index.php Arma2 version of WarMod which being WIP covers a vast number of areas from the community modders, should be out early October, if not sooner, has about 117 addons and mods in it that are made compatible, and compiled for you into one mod. ladlon 10 Posted September 20, 2010 Okay, so 1.3 is actually ACE2? I thought that would still be ACE1 (until they reach 2.0). That's why I was confused. Does that mean that when they reach 2.0, it's ACE3, or how's this work? Does ACE2 1.3 work with Combined Operations? Thanks for pointing out Warmod. I had never heard about that previously, and am checking it out now.
Gunter Severloh 4087 Posted September 20, 2010 Ace2 is version 1.3, Ace2 version 2.0 if there ever will be one, may or may not be ace3, it seems that every ace that comes out is for the respective game, so possibly for OA Ace3? not sure. but if you need more info on Ace2 then heres there page on Devheaven: http://ace.dev-heaven.net/Advanced_Combat_Environment' As far as WarMod goes for Arma2, it still WIP - (Work in progress), you can watch the progress at the official website, which is in my sig. there is a WarMod out for the Arma version. Devil Dogs SF 13 Posted September 20, 2010 For realistic gameplay I use: ACE2+SLX+Zeus AI+Mando Missile Sounds: CSM2 for weapons, explosions, snaps and impacts, JSRS for environment, movement and vehicle weapons and TRSM (All modules) for all vehicle movement sounds. ladlon 10 Posted September 20, 2010 Hey, does Combined Operations add any of the previously 3rd party mods to it's install? In other words, did they utilize any of these mods into Combined Ops? Just wondering if any of the standard mods are now 'obsolete' as far as installing them with CO, as they are already included (if not literally, than the functionality of them was copied by the makers of CO). ---------- Post added at 07:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:53 PM ---------- @TomatoArden: Ah, got ya. I understand now. I thought the 1 and 2 in the name were reflective of the version number, not that 1 was for Arma and 2 was for Arma2. Makes sense! (Hulk understand now... ) :)
