Archamedes 10 Posted November 30, 2009 after 7 months i have finished it. Added a History dependant IK solver and placed the pivot points correctly so it animates easily. Here it is http://www.vimeo.com/7883156
Placebo 29 Posted November 30, 2009 Thought ED meant something else at first, was about to ban you for being a spambot ;)
PuFu 4600 Posted November 30, 2009 nicely done mate. The rigging is cool, the animation in the vid is a bit stiff, but i guess that is expected :P
mr.g-c 6 Posted November 30, 2009 Wow, don't forget to feed him with "Nuke" :-) (thats how they called the drug in german version of Robocop)
roberthammer 582 Posted November 30, 2009 This looks like the machine from Robocop - very nice job :)

CW001 10 Posted November 30, 2009 That is sweet. My inner pedant wishes it to be known that in the preview image weaponry is spelt wrong, but ignore him.

CW001 10 Posted November 30, 2009 you spelt it wrong too Google and my dictionary sez weaponry is the correct spelling. I'll shut up now, being pedantic is annoying.
nodunit 397 Posted December 1, 2009 Best ED-209 model I've ever seen. Not only did you get the movie accuracy pinned down but the rigging was amazing. I don't think I've ever seen anyone pay attention to the leg brakes and the fact that only one arm cannon has the rocket launcher or pay attention to the radar grill (the mouth) detail. ED-209's always been my favorite Robot so seeing this was a great suprise, glad to see that you will be selling it on turbosquid, I'm sure someone will be purchasing it. max power 21 Posted December 1, 2009 The model seems very strong. If this is for a demo reel I'd highly suggest just showing off the model and some rigging, no animation. The animation is by far the weakest part of the video. Like a CV, you should focus on your strengths. I think the texturing or shaders could use some more love, too. I like the overall presentation. It's something I'm not great at- trying to showcase my stuff. I love buildiing stuff but I hate making multimedia presentations about it... HATE.

trickster1982 10 Posted December 3, 2009 Looking good! Any plans to mod him into ArmA 2? I reckon a robocop patrol mod would be class!
Archamedes 10 Posted December 3, 2009 The animation does look quirky and thats not because of my ability, but because of the rig and the joints (sliding joints included) it is VERY hard to animate
max power 21 Posted December 3, 2009 Well, even so, the animation you've shown uses none of the principles of animation and the timing is poor. If that is the rig's fault, then I guess "something i took months to put together is now finished with a HD solver bone rig and pivot points correctly placed to allow easy animation" fails. Maybe less IK in the rig is in order, especially in the hip joints.
Steakslim 1 Posted December 3, 2009 Wow, don't forget to feed him with "Nuke" :-) (thats how they called the drug in german version of Robocop) That was Robocop 2, and they didn't feed the Nuke to the ED-209, they fed it to the Robocop replacement "Robocop 2" or "RoboCain" being it contained the brain of the villan of the movie who created the Nuke drug to begin with. Yeah I'm a movie nerd.. :(
ACF 0 Posted December 4, 2009 So you noticed the ED-209 reference in the copyright statement at the end of the credits to Robocop??
jw custom 56 Posted December 4, 2009 Very nicely done, i'm impressed  I haven't been using 3D Studio Max since version 5 :p
Archamedes 10 Posted December 4, 2009 (edited) So you noticed the ED-209 reference in the copyright statement at the end of the credits to Robocop?? So does that mean that the 1000's of 3d models you can get like f-18 hornets, bmw's coke cans buildings of landmarks are copyrighted and not allowed to be made? also i said the pivot point placing made the animating easier not the joints, which i am still tweaking Edited December 4, 2009 by Archamedes
