Well thats kind of a downer... I love Arma2 but I think I was getting a little excited about having a second mil-sim with different flavor. For some reason, I thought CM would be sportin' a top notch physics engine which coupled with tac-shooting (suppresive, cover), free-world playing, realistic vehicle damage and an editor would have pretty much sealed the deal.

A demo should be out soon and then everyone can just judge for themselves.

Only if the demo contains the editor... this is an important part that IMO that needs to be judged too.

Well those things might be small (or large) annoyances to some people but more importantly I'd like to know

A. Is it fun in that tactical sim shooter sorta way?

B. Does the world feel engaging and alive or stale and repetitive?

C. How's the AI in terms of combat intelligence and pathfinding?

D. Does the AI really seem to use a playbook for strategy and is it effective?

E. How does the in-game physics feel in terms of gravity, falling?

F. How is the vehicle damage system?

Well maybe because either I haven't noticed anything to give a proper answer. But let's see (again this is completely my point of view):

A) Yes I'm pretty sure it will be fun to play. For some at least and for some maybe not.

B) From the little I've seen the world looks ok. But most of the gameplay I've seen and played it was more open countryside, like NW Chernarus.

C) Hard to judge, they seem to be ok in returning fire. Pathfinding in open terrain is no big problem after all.

D) Really can't tell.

E) Haven't experienced any breathaking gravity effects and stuff.

F) I seen an exploding vehicle from a distance, sorry but well.... it exploded. :)

Again I'm not saying its totally crap. I'm just saying for me personally it's not an option after all.

...bad news for co-op'ers: There is a restrictive 275 meter tether applied to your firesquad and if you stray further than that from your teamates you will be 'punished'....

I want to play the game to get a similar experience as ArmA II, without all the bugs and glitches.

I think the game looks pretty good.

Thanks, that was actually way more useful...if the game is fun I'm gonna get it, isn't that the point of a game anyways

ARMA2 isn't a game in that the fun of it is the Editor..here's a hopefully close analogy:

ARMA2 (LEGOS) - Okay so legos are awesome, you can build anything you can imagine...however after you've built it, there isn't much else to do but take it apart and build something else, just like that ARMA2 is so much fun trying out things you could never do in any other current military themed game..that is where it blows me away (just tried out making full scale airborne insertion stuff..wow)! I then went and made a simple amphibious assault..awesome. BUt after that what is there to do but just make more stuff. the Campaign is sucktastic and I can't finish it until they patch major problems, the multiplayer is lagtastic and isn't even fun when it does run decently..editor is where it is at!

OFPDR (nerfgun/bbgun) okay so you can't make anything out but they were a ton of fun to use and play around with, it would be fun just to take one out and shoot your brother (nerf gunof course) or what not. hope this makes sense

What the hell do you mean by that? Why the hell do they care?

I dunno how big your hard drive is, but it's big enough that I can install both games..I obivously own ARMA2 (and have bought all their previous titles) so why the hell does it matter if I decide I like another game...shock...horror.

What idiocy

I think you hit the nail on the head for me. I still go back and play OFP and Arma 1 all the time (never bought A2) simply to create a quick mission that I might have seen in a movie or on tv or something.

OFDR is supposed to have an editor like OFP/ARMA # as well, so we will see how that goes. I'm really anxious to see how open and robust the modding capabilities of OFDR will be, b/c when you think about it, that's what really made OFP and ARMA so great.

If you go back to OFP, there are metric tons of addons/total conversions/gameplay and graphic enhancements. You can play almost any conflict in history (napoleonic era, wild west, WW1, WW2, vietnam, Modern conflicts, future / sci-fi) and create whatever scenario you want. OFP, by itself, was just the base from which all these great things came from. When you think about everything that was created by the community for OFP it's pretty amazing. I remember new movement animations, higher res models and graphics, detailed weapon sights, leaning, better effects, wounding, dragging wounded, better vehicles, variety in weapons and missions, all things created by the community for free. I don't think I could go back and play vanilla OFP ever again without any of this stuff and I think that was what made OFP so great.

If OFDR is modder friendly than I think it will be very popular and who knows what kind of game it will end up being.

Rant about ArmA 2 and LEGOS (woot)

That's not unqiue to ArmA though. Any game with an editor (at least this is how I find it) becomes hard to actually sit down and play afterwards.

Depends on what the players definition of fun is.

In better news, when he looked through the binoculars in the beginning of the video it looked like a rabbit or something running through the grass. So there is some kind of wildlife after all.

The 275m thing is weird. So you can't have a friend giving sniper support or something? Maybe it's just a campaign thing.

I think that's just debris from the explosion (vehicle?) you see on the left just before they stars using the range-finder/binocs.

I see they still haven't sorted that dreadful ACOG view with the front sight post.

@MM -apparently the tether is in all coop play and has something to do with the Netcode not handling 4 people running in different directions. There's even a gauge at the bottome of your screen to alert you how far away your squaddies are. AI can go wherever however...

Here's the full 18 minutes of coop gameplay footage broken into 2 parts.

It looks to much like Call of Duty....imho.

Well..after seeing part 2 all the way, I have to admit, climbing the staircase reminded me of OPF/ArmA. (when he dropped to the bottom)

why don't you simply to understand that ofp:dr wasn't/isn't/won't be a new ofp1. Codemasters have their own project for different kinds of gamers. ofp:dr won't be in competition with Arma1/2.

I like very much OFP1. but i like also the new project of codemasters, it will have its place in the video games market.

Oh, I think they do understand what it isn't. I think what it isn't is abundantly clear.
