What is your favorite ARMA 2 Loadout?

Recommended Posts

Oh yes, 130 lbs is nothing! You havent seen my calves ;)

I am, like many others, waiting for ACE2. I prefered their weight-system. But right now Im not gonna limit myself. My loadout is based on the missions we play and that combo is very versatile. But I agree and know it is somehow ridicilous.

I usually don't carry around a tube, it's silly to be carrying around a tube plus a full size rifle (why so few SMGs and no machine pistols?). I really like the AK-107 + GL for my rifle personally. The sight is quick to line up and the recoil deadening mechanism makes for extremely accurate and fast follow ups. Plus who doesn't like grenade launchers. :D 5 or 6 rifle mags, 2 smoke grenades (am I the only one who uses smoke?) and whatever else looks like it wants to come. Plus the sidearm de jour of course, since there's no reason not to, though I carry minimal pistol rounds in favor of GL food.

If there's a lot of open field stuff expected though, DMR all the way!

I get my mags/weapons wrong, so sue me - I'm here for the fun.

M16A4 M203 ACOG. 4 Mags. 6 M203's.

Smaw. 2 Shots.

M9 sd. 2 Mags.

1 Smoke

1 Grenade

I'll switch out a smaw and take a satchel sometimes, you can disable an AI T90 if you place a good shot right in the back.

DMR is amazing too. Thats my marksmen kit of choice. The M107 is hilarious for blowing up light vehicles at medium ranges XD

M16/M203/ACOG, SMAW with 2 rounds and 2 satchels.

Doesn't that leave you room for like, 3 magazines?

DMR

SMAW with 2 or 3 missiles

One grenade or smoke.

Pistol if it's there

DMR is the greatest gun in the game imo. I even can use it in close combat lol

I like using the MK12 SPR ;)

Even got a customized gas blow-back airsoft version as SPR with silencer!

It does, but the M16 is used as a marksman rifle in this loadout, not a free firing burst/full auto assault rifle. Either way its fairly easy to scrounge for ammo. I mean, how many around you doesnt have 5.56 mags or SMAW rounds? :p

Imo its a great feature in the game that people can choose their loadouts so freely :)

One of the best features in the game imo :)

Freedom ftw!

I've really been loving the DMR recently too. It kind of reminds me of a BAR with a scope minus the full auto function.

I played a bit with the Bizon last night. Its a fun weapon as well. I still love my Mk 48 mod 0 the best though.

Depending on availability:

DMR>Druganov>M16A4+ACOG+M203 (or M107 if no vehicles whatsoever)

Javelin/metis for open areas with tanks, stinger/strela for maps with heavy aircraft, and normally SMAW with HEAA > RPG7 with 3 PG7-VR (or VL if no armored vehicles).

Usually only take 4 mags and 2 frags, if no launcher then 3-4 frags, 3 smoke and rest ammo for M107.

I just can't see myself playing without a scoped weapon. Not because it's "zomg overpowered" but because it's simply too hard to identify and aim at pixelated targets at 200-300m, and no, the zoom feature is simply not enough. I shouldn't have to fire 10-20 rounds to hit someone at those distances when comfortably prone and holding breath, and in-game at least a 4X ACOG is needed to hit someone at those distances with 100% hit ratio (assuming ideal conditions of course, while for aimpoints/ironsights even ideal conditions don't give decent hit rate even though IRL they would).

Any mission trying to be realistic by not allowing me to have an ACOG is actually ruining realism, because it's forcing me to use weapons that are improperly simulated in the game.

I love the MK48 mod 0 and it would likely be my weapon of choice if there were absolutely no vehicles (launchers are a must if there are) and fighting was limited to 300-400m, if they would actually fix the zoom so I can see stuff at those distances. With the current system I just can't without a magnifying optic.

Keep in mind this is while playing on max settings (post processing off) at 1680X1050, so it's not a system issue.

Having everyone run with AT weapons may be unrealistic, but so is everyone driving APCs. The loadout system is definitely in desperate need of fixing, but there's a lot more than the loadout system that needs fixing, mission design needs some major tweaking as well. Though don't expect an AT specialist to run around with an mp5 with 3 mags! IRL they carry all that heavy gear (well not as heavy as the crazy M203+launcher loadout, but rifle+launcher is perfectly normal for AT specialist), they just don't move as freely and easily as a rifleman...

I don't know how heavy a SMAW is, but carrying RPG with 2 rockets is just about heavy enough IRL, and it's normal to have a 2nd guy carrying 3 more rockets for you. For javelins (and afaik metis is also similar in this matter) it's also standard to have someone carry 2 extra rockets for you - even in-game if it was possible it would be nice to have 2 people carry 3 rockets instead of 2 by using some teamwork, but the current "slot system" doesn't allow it. M136/RPG18 just needs a total rework - should cost only weight and launcher slot, not 1/2 your inventory making it useless unless you have no choice. Besides, just about any launcher should have a very high chance to destroy non-MBT armored vehicles with 1 direct hit, needing 2 is just silly considering the most armored ones don't have more than 40mm of armor when even the lowest penetrating rocket (PG7-V) penetrates like 230mm.

Another thing that is funny is people complaining about the M203+rockets loadouts, but nobody says anything about peopel running around with M240B, aiming it while standing as if it's some 3KG assault rifle (and carrying 600 rounds for it)... Do you guys realize how heavy that thing is? It's 12.5KG EMPTY

Oh, I've noticed. I've also noticed that the 240 is even more accurate when you are moving. Magical, it is.

240 gunners should carry 200 rounds of ammo (4 belts).

Hmm, in the IDF our M240B gunner was using 125-round drums. Then again he didn't aim his M240B while standing, but rather shooting from the hip (when not prone of course). Granted he only carried something like 300-400 rounds and not really anything extra at all (maybe 1 grenade?) on top of the standard combat gear (basically water). And it was the heaviest loadout in the company (except maybe crew served weapons). It's funny we actually don't use non-mounted M240B as a personal weapon anymore (only 5.56 LMG), but still have 1 M240B gunner per platoon during training.

After the Mod 0 my second favorite weapon is the SAW.

The SAW is great because you can actually fire and hit stuff from a crouch instead of always going prone to fire.

I barely ever carry a tube but when I do I like the Metis. Javelin is ok too but they just didnt get it right in Arma2.

I've really been loving the DMR recently too. It kind of reminds me of a BAR with a scope minus the full auto function.

Just FYI if you didn't know, the DMR package is a dolled-up M14 (nice optics, bipod, better barrel, some other changes) which in turn is descended from the M1 Garand :D It's a nice rifle, but really Arma2 gives it too much credit accuracy-wise. It is NOT intended to be a sniper platform. You give it to the guy who can pull off shots in 500-meter world when you happen across such a situation, not the guy you need to perform single-shot missions at 1000 meters. (Though there are other M14 variants which exceed the DMR in precision)

Hell at 500 meters who needs optics? The LMG's in Arma2 can kill squads at 500 meters in seconds.

If you can see them... Which is pretty hard most of the time unless you know where to look and they're in the open. With standard zoomed-in they'll only be 1-3 pixels wide.

Yeah sometimes its a pain, especially with the arma grass. Just open up on the pixels, the rate of fire almost guarantee 1-2 kills.

Had a very funny moment in MP where I was lying prone on the ground reconing an enemy city. Out of nowhere, a T 72 rolled up next to me without seeing me parks right beside me. All I could do was throw some smoke grenades and run away.

Since then I always carry an M16A2 and alot of satchel charges..
