Recommended Posts

hello

i just recently switched from Vista x64 to XP x64.

now i am seeing this Securom stuff in the threads that i look in for perfromance tweaks.

I have the 505Games Version..

Apparently.

I would like to have the retail version, but for this very reason I will not buy it.

Hangon, what? Are you saying you can only install the 505 DVD version 5 times?

It can't be true. When I downloaded arma and needed to reinstall it more than 3 times I just emailed support and they mailed a new key and warned me to get my hardware in order.

From what I understand, the DVD version has unlimited installs. The activation works by binding the game to your pc's mac address. Unless you've changed your motherboard or ethernet adaptor you won't have a problem. Every time you uninstall you reset one of the potential installs you have...

I think

What?

That cannot be true....can it?

Is validating my dvd and key not enough.

I would not have bought retail if i knew that was the case.

It says nothing about this on the packaging which, at point of sale, is the only information i have. Nor does it mention it in the EULA in the manual.

I have already re-installed once whilst troubleshooting performance issues so i now only have three installs left?

What happens when i need to reinstall for the sixth time, must i purchase the game again or has there been some kind of misunderstanding?

*runs to regedit to export all registry keys and copies the entire arma2 folder to multiple drives*

EDIT: Oh i see, sorry about the D-R-A-M-A

xmongx it won't matter how many times you install the original dvd on the same computer. The activation is to prevent you distributing it with a no dvd fix.

1. ... yes.. only 3 left.. anytime a reinstall is done and a hardware/software change has been made.. it counts as a 'new' machine install.

2. just a simple reinstall with no hardware/software changes.. doesn't count as a 'new' install.

3. if you exceed your count.. send an email to the company that gave you your CD key and tell them you had 5 hardware/software changes looking for the right combo to play the game.. they will create a new set for you. (providing proof you bought it)

yes.. 5 install blows... but it seems as all the new games have been doing this for the last 6 months-year.

good luck.

DVD version has no install limits or activation limits.

Digital Download versions do (and I'm pretty sure is common knowledge to just about everyone who buys digital download versions?)

That said the Sprocket version has:

Unlimited activations on the same PC

5 activations on different hardware for 6 months (then you get new 5 activations simply by Emailing)

If you have a digital download version, like the one from Metaboli or petergames.de, you can revoke the activation before you uninstall Arma 2 or before you reformat and reinstall Windows.

All you need to do is open a command prompt and go to the Arma 2 installation directory and run "Arma2.exe /revoke". This will revoke the license and put it back into your license pool.

I don't think this is the case. I had my activation blocked (installed game on fresh installs of diff OS's on my PC). Securerom told me that they WONT do anything about it, its up to the digital content provider to reinstate any further license.

Basically it took me a week for Metaboli (sp?) to reinstate my activations, by going through the Level 2 tech support. They were nice and did it, and I did ask them if there is anyway for me to revoke next time and they simply said no, and to email them if there is a problem in the future.

Perhaps that /revoke depends on the publisher.

PS> I am only going by the emails I got from their tech support (who solved it for me)

What version of the game have you got? If it's a store DVD version or Steam then there is no limit.

If you bought it from Sprocket or the German digital download (Metaboli) then you will need to email them after 3 installs to get more activations.
