Although most people owning a Linux server are assuming that there will be a ArmA2 dedicated server version for Linux someday, i think i would be a nice motivation to the friendly people of BIS to know how many members of the community are hoping exactly...

So, if you're

  • owning a Linux dedicated server, or
  • would like to own a Linux based ArmA2 dedicated server, and
  • you're hoping for a Linux version of the dedicated ArmA2 server

than just:

  1. Give a reply with just "/signed" in it, and
  2. vote in the poll

To all Trolls and Flamers: NO and hands OFF...

/signed

I think this would be a good thing to furthing an agenda of getting some platform independence from DirectX and Microsoft as well.

Granted a stand-alone dedicated server is headless and needs no renderer, but getting the game code seperated from DX to run on Linux is one small step toward OGL, but one giant leap for platform independence...

And of course asthis helps open the gates to much better performing game servers, and might even up the number of players a server could support...

:D

I have a Linux box and I eagerly await the binaries but I think it is a little premature to start agitating for it so soon after the game's release. If you ask me, after three post-release patches and a demo the BIS developers have earned at least a little down time.

Well, for some patches they have a linux, some not, no rule. You better watch the weather forecast to find out if next patch will feature a linux dedicated.

Migrating to Nux as soon as the Nux files are out, ofc.

But BI is aware of the need

There's already a much bigger petition that is linked to from here.

I'm eagerly awaiting the no DVD patch so I can have a proper try with WINE.

And I am witing for working Client/Server for Windows at least :D

Without crashes, bugs and desyncs... Game is not playable right now.

Seems like the 'improved' network engine is not capable of being ported to linux. I'm still wondering about the new network stuff is good for. I do not see one improvement compared to Arma1... in total i'm very disappointed of the game right now. No Linux dedicated, dozens of bugs which were already in OFP... not fixed in Arma and still not in Arma2. It's a shame... i won't for sure not buy the upcoming addon. They should take care of the really important things instead of pushing out new campaigns, models etc....
