kklownboy 43 Posted July 31, 2009 Yes mate, I have 2 HD4870x2 in quadfire and its the same for me.I turned off anti-aliasing and aniscopic filtering to get decent playability but the screen goes frustratingly dark at night (night vision sights are on before you ask). Gets fratrating when I'm about to fire at another tank and the screen goes totally black for aeround 5 deadly seconds an I can't see him. he gets me first. rename the .exe... rowdied 44 Posted August 1, 2009 (edited) If someone has a 4870x2 working flawlessly I'd like to know and atleased rule that out as the culprit. I run 1 no problems whatsoever. Even use arma2 exe not renamed because for me I noticed no difference when I did. Edited August 1, 2009 by rowdied speling
CapBadge 10 Posted August 1, 2009 rename the .exe... Cheers mate, done that and What a difference it made. Just by adding the memory limit command to the executionable, my graphics are once again as they should be. It says for me that the problems being reported in this thread are probably being caused by the video memory allocation. (or lack of proper allocation). Still can't play with Aniscopic filtering or anti-aliasing turned on though

fug 10 Posted August 1, 2009 Was having major problems with artifects and frame rates. Using ATI 4870 1GB and Q6600 @ 3.2 ghz. Everything was set to normal and no AA or AF. getting about 15 to 20 fps in campaing @ 1680 * 1050. Used all the tips, rename exe, ect ect. using Vista 64 on 4 gigs of ram. Noting worked. Upgraded to Windows 7. Playing on high settings with a average fps of 35 to 45. Forget about allthe tips, just upgrade to Windows 64 bit.
mon12 10 Posted August 1, 2009 I read this and the armaholic thread, lot's of useful information, thanks a bunch! After all the tweaks I tried, I am still not sure if I managed to extract the most for my system - 4850 512MB, AMD X2 6000, 4GB or 3 since I am on XP Pro. Latest Catalyst and patch applied. High or Normal Setting at 1600x900 produces pretty much the same rates in the campaign, 20-21FPS. Lowering the resolution or quality form High seems to have no effect, I am still stuck at the same FPS. Tried one of the standalone missions and was getting about 25-26 on High. Something is not right, but I can't figure out what. Is my processor the limiting factor?

CapBadge 10 Posted August 2, 2009 Ingame settings; "Still can't play with Aniscopic filtering or anti-aliasing". Or are you trying to use the CCC? I have left the CCC settings in their default state which allows for the application to control these. My problem is that Arma2 itself (the program) slows massively with these two enabled at any level. I mean <1 FPS.
mon12 10 Posted August 2, 2009 What's your view distance, keep it around 2000 for the best mix of performance and visibility. It is around 2000 indeed. I tried another install on vista and my rates jumped to mid-25s in the campaign, about 4-5 fps improvement but definitely much more playable. I'll keep trying and praying for new drivers/patches. GTO 10 Posted August 2, 2009 After a recent hardware upgrade (see my sig) my problem has been things vanishing but increasing the memory setting to very high seems to have fixed it.
Törmentör666 10 Posted August 2, 2009 I had texture drawing problems with my 4890 and 8Gb of RAM. I did the trick mentioned here a couple pages ago and reduced the maximum memory from System Configuration to 3328Gb. No issues remain anymore. Although ArmA2 runs now without problems, I'm wondering if there's any other ways to get rid of this problem? I'm not considering RAM reduction as a viable solution. This is something that really needs to be fixed in the next patch.
froggyluv 2136 Posted August 2, 2009 Has anyone found a way to disable the vsync on the 48xx cards for Arma2? I just tried the 'Refresh overide' in rivatuner but it still maxes at 75fps.
Horus 83 Posted August 3, 2009 ppl with crossfire or X2 board try this -> use last catalyst (9.7) and in CCC set catalyst A.I. to advanced. Don't forget to use original .exe (arma2.exe) and you don't need more -winxp parameter ;) Report if this work for you :bounce3:
InFireBaptize 0 Posted August 3, 2009 Has anyone found a way to disable the vsync on the 48xx cards for Arma2? I just tried the 'Refresh overide' in rivatuner but it still maxes at 75fps. there is an option in the CCC to turn vsync off? slide it all the way to the left. froggyluv 2136 Posted August 3, 2009 Yep, I did that. Maybe I'm wrong here but I thought that that function didn't effect v-sync in Arma2? My refresh setting in the Arrm2.cnfg is 75 but isn't it possible to go higher with v-sync off or am I totally wrong here?
InFireBaptize 0 Posted August 3, 2009 have you checked ATI forums? if your fps is that high then why need to bring it higher! i'm playing at 25-30fps and happy with it.
froggyluv 2136 Posted August 3, 2009 have you checked ATI forums? if your fps is that high then why need to bring it higher! i'm playing at 25-30fps and happy with it. Because I hate the feeling of being capped by anything -lol! No, I don't generally get 75 fps on Chernarus but right now I'm playing in Sahrani using OAC and the fps is just so much better. Out in the desert I get really high fps but I noticed that it seems capped which maybe is normal on an LCD monitor but when I play Mount and Blade it goes up to 100. No strobe with the 9.7 and arma2.exe, but you still get some sever light changes. Crysis strobes, but is not as extreme light to dark. Almost there Bis and ATi... Vsysnc is locked in Vista64 and Rc7, some have had ? success with Ray's Ati tray tool. Some missions seem to have a cap....some are total pigs.

I hope you're using a 64-bit Windows also :-D

Monomeester 10 Posted August 4, 2009 (edited) Hi Kremator, Yeah have thought about it since i have the release candidate version right here. However i just installed everything, including games on Vista 64bit. All working good right now except this Arma II Demo version from STEAM. Besides that i wanna install my musicprogram Cubase 5 and all tools on it as well. Don't know if Windows 7 release candidate will support all of this yet. Still going in consideration if i should try it just to see how my system will do on benchmarking with Windows 7 and ofcourse Arma II. But ofcourse i want everything to run under x64 version of whatever OS i use because of my 8gigs of ram. Thanks for the tip. kklownboy 43 Posted August 4, 2009 I'm wrote this because in 9.7 driver you have AFR profile for ArmA 2. yes. But you do not need to use the CCC AI set to Advanced. thnx for the info
