Interest in no shader ArmA vehicles?

You can remove the shaders with lowplants from any pbo it seems.

It's not limited to the plants.pbo.

I kinda dislike the shininess of ArmA.

In case other have interest in this, it could be released as PBO

with key and signfile.

Example:

Very high shaders (standard) vs Very high shaders (lowplants applied on tracked.pbo)

I am not personally interested, but I think its a good idea so people with lower spec computers can play a more fluent arma.

I'd say go ahead and do it, some people will certainly download and use it.

Not sure if there is a real FPS / performance improvement here.

It is more that you can have shaders for the ground textures,

while not get the shininess for vehicles and weapons.

Actually, spec of my rig is one of the lowest around here, so it might offer me the option to try some options.

Lowplants gave me the first option to improve the graphics quality.

Also looking forward to reduce the "shininess". biggrin_o.gif

Sounds interesting since I have a really poo computer. Have you tried this with other files like buildings? Buildings are the real FPS killer with me.

It's good for all OFP fans as well, as the look is closer to OFP tanks then biggrin_o.gif

Well i've been told that people kinda hate the shininess of A1.  wink_o.gif

Like I said, no idea if that really help FPS wise.

These are easy to build.

1) Just rename your x.pbo to plants.pbo and put it to .\ArmA\addons

(rename orignial plants.pbo in there before).

2) Run lowplants.

3) Goto .\ArmA\lowplants.

4) Delete sara_grass.pbo and rename plants.pbo to

MY_former_original_pbo_name.pbo (MY_Tracked.pbo for example).

5) Move it to some modfolder's addons folder, like

.\ArmA\@PROPER\addons

Don't forget to make your original plants.pbo available again in .\ArmA\addons.

I will make a release in any case to offer signed pbos with keys.  xmas_o.gif

but some elements on vehicles, units, weapons are only thanx to the shaders (rivots, screws, scrathes, buttons, holes)

if someone doesn't like shines, it would be good than to remove SMDI maps, but not remove NOHQ, but leave glass/plexi shine

These are easy to build.

:edit: vilas, yes you are right, but it should also be possible e.g. to remove the shaders from the wheeled.pbo or buildings.pbo. This way, you may be able to raise the shader's quality for the other objects or get more FPS.

It simply offers you more possiblities to "tune" the system smile_o.gif

Gonna have a try at this, although i dont really need more performance i could easily forego shaders on vehicles since you only recognize them in photoshootings, not whilst playing serious coops.

Looking forward to kill the building.pbo with that trick! GPU performance in corazol and bagango surely will benefit from the lesser texture load *crosses fingers*

yeah, it's called an .rvmat and you use BinPBO... just rebuild the default BIS content with the desired pixel shaders specified... Keygetys tool simply reads an odolv40 looking for specific values and alters them... obviously it's the shortcut method but you can get exactly the same result by rebuilding the supplied mlod's with different PS specified in the .rvmat's...

you start to get into some slightly dicey circumstances if you alter odol's too much...

keygety's tool looks for a very small set of PS's and points them at there lower FPS counterparts...

these counterpart PS's are almost exactly the same except for a few traits so the odol does not need to be altered dramatically.

ie. stages removed or inserted.

if you make this feature configurable then you rely on the user of the tool too know which PS's can and cannot be pointed at different ones...

Not all the Pixel Shaders have corresponding lower impact versions...

lol, a bit of Christmas cheer came my way last night so it's a little difficult to explain this morning...

All I 'm saying is be careful mucking about too much with the odol's otherwise you could cause more problems than you want to solve. It might be a saner, more repeatable and controlable method to just rebuild the mlod's.

If you want to discuss this further Q then you know how to get hold of me...

No other way around?

I don`t like the idea of loosing detail only to get rid of the reflections, shine or whatever you call it.

Vilas seems to have the right idea to archive the goal, without loosing all the little details. xmas_o.gif

Well...

Tested lowgrass + "lowbuildings" yesterday. I had the feeling that the FPS on an Athlon 3k+ plus Radeon 1650 do not drop below 20 any more. The feeling is definitly better now, running around in corazol.

This way, I was able to activate normal shaders (usually it is on low), showing the most beautiful tanks ever seen while playing on my rig  xmas_o.gif

Regarding "lowtanks" and "lowvehicles":

This may be helpful to those people having massive FPS drops @many vehicles (like warfare and CTI). I do not see much chance to enable "little details" on a low-class rig

Indeed! Have to correct myself, more fps is always good!

Running lowbuildings & lowrocks gave me 15% more fps while i bumped the viewdistance up another 1500m´s biggrin_o.gif

proper_signs.pbo

proper_tracked.pbo

proper_weapons.pbo

proper_wheeled.pbo

I have uploaded all of them to a ftp.

700 MB in total. Need some mirrors for these. confused_o.gif

My biggest drop comes when I'm near certain bushes and when I'm near any kind of trees.

What should I be looking to change?

No rocks.pbo and no weapons3.pbo ?

I havent checked the weapons at all but rocks seemed to be affected as far as i can tell.

well at least lowplants does not modify them.

The processed files were exactly the same as the original.

Probably they use different shaders.
