ArmaVidz 0 Posted September 22, 2008 Bravo6, admittedly, I was quite pessimistic when I saw you announce this island. But my gawd, man, did you squash that sentiment. The screenshots and island are looking fan-freakin-tastic. The wheat fields provide astonishing attitude to the look of the map. Great job buddy, good luck with finishing/releasing. M.Andersson(SWE) 4 Posted September 23, 2008 Just curious here...Will all these fields provide cover from EYES? Will AI´s still be able to see through the thick field of weet and stuff..??
bravo 6 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Thats something that has been discussed for some days, most people ask this question and i can say from the tests that these fields can give you cover from the Ais and humans. To answer your question: Yes, these fields will provide cover from human and AI eyes. AIs won't be able to fire if they don't see the target. If they get to close they will eventually see the target and fire. The only advantage we have from the AIs, in this particular subject, is that we can fire like crazy in all directions if we want, with a little luck we hit something. If an enemy squad sees you and you go prone in these fields they know you are there but they don't see you so they don't fire, instead they send some to search for you. If you move from that place without being seen by the enemy they will not follow you, only if they see you again, but they will continue searching you. If they get to close and see you, they will fire. This was what i experienced while testing. The LODs seem to work fine.

bravo 6 0 Posted September 28, 2008 I had some difficulties setting the texture as it should on photoshop but now i can just work on the color and texture abit more so i can move on with the terrain.. Since i spent some time with these colors and setting, testing  and smashing my head into the wall i think i lost some critic spirit on the colors concern. Do they look too bright? Fake? 1600x1200                         1600x1200 1600x1200                         1600x1200 These are is the different colors with the sun and clouds blocking the light. edit: typo
ravenholme 50 Posted September 28, 2008 I'd say that the wheat is ever so slightly too bright, but I'm not sure.
ProwlerWolf 0 Posted September 30, 2008 actually I think it is quite true to life.
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted September 30, 2008 Might just be my "darker = more realistic LOL GRAW coffee filter" centre speaking, but I prefer the darker wheat. Dunno why, just me. Your choice ultimately though mate, gosh, can't wait to see this map.
bravo 6 0 Posted September 30, 2008 I also think alittle darker might be better but it shouldn't be too dark because real wheat are not so dark.. you mean the 1st version: or the 2nd: I'm still searching for the best texture and color for the wheat to this map. I really hate to post the same pics but i believe its important to get a conclusion so i can move on.
PuFu 4600 Posted September 30, 2008 does inbetween works for you? i am not actually kidding, as i think, depending on the season it can look either way...so better go for smth in the middle. My 2 cents
manzilla 1 Posted September 30, 2008 The second picture looks pretty much dead on compared to the wheat fields around my house, I live in the agricultural heart of America. Â But color can differ depending on many variables like level of maturity, soil ph, region, climate, weather and so on. I wouldn't stress to much over it. I'd say leave it be going by the second picture. Especially since the climate is pretty dry, the wheat will be lighter then most wheat fields in wetter areas. Although the 1st picture would be good if you want to go for that unkept look. If fields get hit with drought half way through the season, aren't maintained well or aren't harvested at the proper time the fields will significantly darker due to the plants dying. Â Mind you, I'm not a farmer but my family founded one of the world's largest agriculture companies so I'm not completely dense in this matter. Â Ultimately what ever color you choose should depend on what kind of look and feel you are going for. The color is trival unless you have a certain idea in mind. ArmaVidz 0 Posted September 30, 2008 I like the second, lighter colored wheat field Bravo6. It's cinematic but not unrealistic. Does the time of day and weather come to bear influence on the aesthetics of the wheat in-game? If so, they're perfect they way they are.
opteryx 1562 Posted September 30, 2008 I think one important thing to take into consideration is how well do they match up to the terrain, if they don't match well the contrast will be apparent when they fade out at the last LOD.
bravo 6 0 Posted September 30, 2008 i know what you mean, in avgani they match perfectly. In this map i believe it till be hard to make them match.. check it out what i mean: wikimapia any suggestions?
Alex72 1 Posted October 1, 2008 The lighter wheet - thats actually how it looks when the sun is on such a field. Maybe the darker one gives a more realistic tone in the game actually, but from the screens, the light ones looks realistic (in sunlight). Nice work on this map. Looks bloody brilliant. Regards Alex
Namikaze 0 Posted October 1, 2008 This is like going to the optometrist... "Can you see better with 1 or 2? 3 or 4?" I like the dark one, but if the two images are good examples of how the game illuminates with full sun (no overcast), at 08:00, then I would say go with the light one. To me, determining how to color the textures would depend very heavily on how the engine lights the wheat.
bravo 6 0 Posted October 1, 2008 Yeah lol, i'm trying to find a balanced term for the color for the norming/Mid-day/Afternoon.. ill try not to have pink wheat at the afternoon per example hehe ..mean while im also working on cut wheat LOL  (call me crazy i don't care) edit: OMG this is starting to look like a farm land  edit2: cut wheat fields will be something like these 1600x1200                          1600x1200 1600x1200                         1600x1200
