lebson506th 0 Posted April 17, 2008 I just tested it out, and it sounds great. One thing i noticed was that the M4A1SD is basically silent. You can barely hear it at all. NOTE: Duh, its silent, but when you are shooting it, you should still be able to hear it a little. It is "silent" at distance. Also, the HUMMWV engine sound when its going full speed, it doesn't make me feel like im moving. It sounds more like the thing is in neutral =/ Lastly, add this to the config so it doesn't say "Mission is dependent on a missing addon, blah blah blah..." even when the mission doesn't require it. <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> class CfgAddons { class PreloadAddons { class HiFi_sounds_Config { list[]={"HiFi_sounds"}; }; }; };
miles teg 1 Posted April 18, 2008 With well silenced weapons (and using subsonic ammunition) you normally only hear the click of the bolt cycling back and forth. The bullets should only make a "crack" downrange if you are not using subsonic rounds. In the case of using normal rifle rounds, the weapon will still make a sound like an unsilenced .22 caliber pistol (like a small firecracker) but its still hard for enemies downrange to figure out where the shot originated from. Normally however, subsonic ammunition is used in silenced rifles and always in typical 9mm or .45 cal pistols or SMG's. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
Blackknight.au 0 Posted April 18, 2008 Just to be anal about it *giggles* weapons like the MP5SD6 are virtually silent but most others like the M4 are suppressed: the suppressor acts as a flash eliminator also and suppresses the sound but troops like our SASR for instance in East Timor used suppressors with supersonic ammo for the needed power. The sound is like dropping a volume of Yellow Pages on a desk, apparently.
max power 21 Posted April 18, 2008 the action of a firearm would alone makes 100 decibels. I've heard suppressed firearms described as more like 'slamming a car door'.
NoRailgunner 0 Posted April 18, 2008 Indeed nice sound mod. I found something to fix or improve: - "click" sound if you choose your weapon at ammo crate and in editor - M9, Makarov, MP5A5, AKS-74U increase sound volume - "beeping" satchels sounds too loud (if you gonna make silent and stealth attack you will fail because of those sounds) - burst sound from G36C is wrong - Weapons with SD are not that silent like in Hollywood movies more like "closing" door ~90dB (.223 cartridge fired in a standard rifle is about 160 db, low voice conversation is about 55 db, hand clap about 65 db)
Wolfrug 0 Posted April 18, 2008 Some nice sounds! Just two complaints at this point: 1)G36C = no recoil, and burst has the same sound as single shot. 2) The little sound that happens whenever you click something, finish a unit/waypoint/trigger etc. placement in the editor...you know the one. It's out of place and a little intrusive, and I don't think there was really anything wrong with the default one? Otherwise, great job! "Sounds" good so far! miles teg 1 Posted April 18, 2008 After giving these a good testing, I found the M4 and Ak sounds to be fairly good, but alot of the sounds to at a distance sounded to me too much like YouTube sounds (although with higher fidelity). Â All of the sounds should be MUCH louder. Â The voices talking should be the quietest thing heard. Â The downside is that you may get hearing dammage. The pops heard as rifle bullets go by are also more realistic in the default BIS sounds. Â There's not much echo unless they are far away. Â Nevertheless, still the sounds are not terrible. Â They just aren't quite all what I remember from being in the Army. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
Mark XIII (DayZ) 18 Posted April 18, 2008 Heya guys, Just to keep you posted, I will get stuck into some editing over the weekend and hopefully have a worthy update. Thankyou for posting your comments I shall try to work on the changes suggested. There are lots of posts regarding the Silenced/Suppressed sounds so I shall look at these 1st. Its quite funny I toned down my orginal SD sounds because I figured people may play this online (Surely SD weapons from a gameplay point of view should have at least the fact that they are quiet going for them, face it with bullet drop and low dammage values I see little point using them whilst playing Online if the sound allow people to spot me.). Funny thing, I don't play online at all I was just thinking of making my sounds 'practical' to use. I do have a set of harder hitting SD sounds for the M4/MP5 so I shall bring them in for the next release maybe try and up the overall volume of the small arms. I'm alittle limited at the moment, I choose one of polo's simpler configs to use as a tempate. I do have another that has more volume information available and may consider testing this out... I shall also look at some of the sonic cracks and cut down the trail off sounds. lastly, I shall alter the UI sounds, make them less abrupt I don't want to make setting up a mission a headache so consider that done! Well catch you real soon Regards Mark XIII

Mark XIII (DayZ) 18 Posted April 18, 2008 watch this space for new update, many requested changes & tweaks have been implemented, its been packed and being uploaded. I had a couple of minutes to test it an I think you'll be happy..I am. As soon as I get a mirror I'll post it, thankyou all again for your comments and support it is appreciated! Oh..Before I forget, the issue with the G36 recoil is for me unsolvable if anyone can step in and help i'd appreciate it. Must admit I hadn't noticed myself so thanks for pointing it out Wolfrug. Anyways, gonna chill for alittle while (uploading is always slow for me ) Take care all Regards Mark XIII
miles teg 1 Posted April 18, 2008 Mark, the silenced MP5 should definitely not be loud. You should only hear a click of the bolt moving back and forth. The suppressed M4 is only loud if its using normal bullets. I have no idea what class type the BIS silenced M4 is based upon, but whether or not it can be heard is based largely upon whether or not subsonic or normal bullets are used in real life. However, although I was in the US Army, I did not have any experience with silenced rifles myself (usually only Special Operations units use those generally speaking). I would recommend doing some research on the common usage of suppressed M4's and see if you can find any videos of them being fired and information from former (or current) Special Operations members of any country to see what they normally use and for information on what it sounds like. Someone mentioned that there was a difference between a silencer and a suppressor but I was not aware of any major differences so I did not try arguing that point. That might be something to research. So before you go making all of the silenced weapons go "BANG" do a bit of research on the topic. All I know is that for certain silenced MP5's are amongst the quietest silenced weapons in the world with primarily only the bolt going back and forth in the weapon being heard making a "click click click" sound that is not very loud. You can see a video of it being used here: Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>

Yours, Edit #1: Lovely update, the sounds definitely sound better, the M16 sounds fantastic, now that it doesn't share the sound of the M4! Mark XIII (DayZ) 18 Posted April 18, 2008 How you guys finding the new silenced sounds, let me know your thoughts as I really don't mind revising anything till near-perfection...what I mean is the nice fence between immersion & realism is achieved. At some point I'm gonna put some work in on the vehical sounds as afew guys have mentioned maybe changing/tweaking some stuff. Anyways been great chatting with you all, thanks again for the support hope you enjoy this latest release.. Seeya round! Regards Mark XIII
lebson506th 0 Posted April 18, 2008 Looks great except for that config fix i mentioned. (All it does it gets rid of the little pop-up when you play MP missions that don't have your addon in the required list. Also, it stops the editor from adding your addon to the required list for a mission... its a simple fix for a couple of annoying things.)

Mark XIII (DayZ) 18 Posted April 19, 2008 Couple of quick things. lebson506th - Sorry dude, forgot to add that to the config, will do for next release Puma- Erm, thankyou for the 'idea', I shall 'listen' to some youtube footage of AA and maybe try to get the same feel, but I shall not use someone else's material. Unless I deem it better than my own, even then I would seek and then only when permission was obtained would I release such material. To be honest, if you look into why I started this addon you'll see I wanted to bring Hi Fi delity to the table first, we can work on getting them realistic with input from this great community...Infact we already are ! Dude, I'm not having a go, just stating where I stand on 'borrowing' others work. Miles teq- Thankyou for you're input it is greatly appreciated, I guess if you read above you'll know my intention is to work on this with you guys till we're all happy with it, that said I also intend to release a Sound editing tutorial at some stage, so if you keep all my releases you can eventually put you're on thing together...More bout that later Viper 23rd, Thankyou once again, real glad you like the M16 sounds. Its quite funny, I've pretty much kept the first build for my install of Arma, guess its just personal preference. As long as you guys are happy, I'm happy. I think my next plan is to jump to a different version of Polo's config. He's a great guy so he's let me use pretty much what I want, so far I'm just using his configs because I like the way this guy lays out his folders. There was some mention of 'Weapon volumes at distances' posted earlier and that is what I intend to look at. Would be good to stretch out the volume over a ranged firefight.. Anyways thats all for now, I'll keep you guys posted on updates and such, as usual please feel free to comment/request. Regards Mark XIII
evilfury 0 Posted April 19, 2008 I really like this soundmod. M16 sounds realistic, Ak sound is realistic also. And the footsteps volume is great. Now i can hear the enemy near me. Great job.
Ateryu82 0 Posted April 19, 2008 This is now my favorite soundmod, thank you so much for your hard work Mark! I really hope this will turn into a full blown sound mod that alters all sounds. For instance, my major annoyance since the beginning of Arma is the jet sounds. I still haven't heard a soundmod that nails the jet sounds, and those are so important for immersion... Would be cool if you looked into that, anyway, nice job, keep up the good work!

layne_suhr 0 Posted April 19, 2008 I found a little bug here using ArmA 1.12 When in any vehicle driving you have the engine noise then if you shot the gun mounted on that vehicle (or tank) the vehicle engine noise dissapears for a few seconds after the gun has fired so you don't hear anything after that one shot.... Hope you get what i mean
