African and some tropical trees

Recommended Posts

So I am busy on my final tree pack (just takes too much time these day>=D) for ArmA 1 (and ArmA 2 but we will see).

It will contain common tree types that can be found on Africa and few for Tropical areas.

List of trees currently:

- Umbrella tree (Acacia tortilis)

- Baobab tree (Adansonia digitata)

- Bottle tree

- Aloe tree

- couple of shrubs, plants and dead fallen trees

Work in progress pics;

Awesome, how is the frame-rate when placed in dense clusters?

Framerate stays the same, i've tested this in clutter as far as eye could see tounge2.gif , yet still ground clutter and other things still are missing.

When you say stay the same , do you mean a 30+ rate?

Yup. smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Nice trees!

Just the bottletrees (are this one in the first pic?) look a bit too thin, i think.

Those are different kind of bottle trees im making wink_o.gif.

Nice pack, I agree with Mr Medicus on bottletrees though, making them look more like on the photos would be great.

Awesome job, mate! thumbs-up.gif

Great work BergHoff, nice to see some exotic plants coming to the game (hopefully).

Just so you know, this doesn't look much like a Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia), its far closer to a Banana Plant (Musa):

Bird of Paradise leaves do not grow from a trunk or central stem, they radiate from the center in a fashion that resembles a frond from an Areca Palm: http://www.jicenterprisesinc.com/Areca%20Palm%2025%20Gallon.jpg

Just so you know I'm not trying to be a smartass, just trying to help.

BTW, great work so far!

Well, I have younger plant that have this which you describe (not shown yet, I will show pic next week), the one you see is kinda older one (oldest age I have made), you can clearly see on second pic of plants you posted there is a trunk from which they grow. I guess i need to make the trunk less visible from middle to top, anway model will be tweaked later on to get right 'radiate' shape aswell. Thanks for your info smile_o.gif. Aslo keep in mind I can't make all trees 100% correct shape, some info on internet can be misleading sometimes, time constraints don't help aswell and in the end it is a game which I guess most people don't go to check out trees to look for model accuracy. smile_o.gif

@Linker

Nice to see that smile_o.gif Good to see more different Islands are in the works.

*goes off the eat a couple of chocolate easter eggs :d*

Tropical Plants has been a hobby of mine for over 20 years now which was the only reason I chimed in. I've raised Dwarf Banana Trees and Bird of Paradise along with Palms (mostly Areca), Fig Trees, Anthurium, Philodendrons and a number of species in between.

Anyway I wish I had some of your talent because I'd love to help but alas I'm a n00bie and have only dabbled for a matter of hours in 3dsmax.

I think what your doing is great so keep up the good work!

Hi,

Just  wanted to say that (obviously) im not working on this addon anymore due to lack of time. However the Bushwar mod will be using the trees for their Island.

I will release my unfinished tree pack soon so people who are interested in creating new maps for ArmA can use and modify the trees themselves just need to do some cleanup first.   xmas_o.gif

Will it consist of only African/tropical trees or have you included some European species?
