BadBone 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Im hearing this a lot lately, mainly on HOLD ( Be[z]erk ) servers. Actually i hear it everytime i play a Hold server now, whats happened? The imature population of other FPS games have now disscovered ArmA? Whatever, its very annoying to hear you crying that someone is camping, get over it. "Camping" is part of ArmA, A BIG part of real war, and the more you spam chat that someone is camping, the more you will be camped and targeted, by me anyhow, at least. Rant before dinner mode off:
-Puma- 2 Posted June 12, 2007 Yep Its the patch thing allover again (have we covered all the corners of earth ) don't worry in a couple of weeks US newbies leaves, and things return to (somewhat) normal (hopefully)

maddogx 13 Posted June 12, 2007 You would have thought this obvious if you've ever tried to fire a weapon in ArmA when running ... Â Coming from a Battlefield and FEAR background myself, I probably would have been one of those guys, if I hadn't been playing OFP long before that... r71 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Its the map makers fault   All my maps I made for ofp had what I called (ABR's) Anti Base Rape zones. You walk near another teams  spawn and you would die. Just pick a good spot on the map so the other team cant fire long range into the spawn. Or if you really must have that open spot on a map then place building down so they can spawn in safty. Scrub 0 Posted June 12, 2007 I'm not camping... I'm dug in! I'm not camping... I'm laying in ambush to interdict! Sheesh, some people and their arcade views of warfare. R71: I believe they are talking about on avenues of approach and the 'held' areas (that was happening last night in BERZERK) 'Long live the campers!'
max power 21 Posted June 12, 2007 I would say just get really comfortable camping... sit low in your chair... crack a beverage of your choosing... pick your targets as they come around... and answer their 'stop camping' nonsense with the odd, 'yep' as you sit, sipping your beverage and blasting them dead out of their lame enfilade, balls-in-the-wind charges. froggyluv 2136 Posted June 12, 2007 If someone finds a good position without getting spotted - all the power to them. Frankly I suck at camping as i always get routed out. I'm better at the 'move and shoot'. I used to get pissed at the guy who finds the soft spot angle into the spawning zones in CTF. But it was kinda funny to frantically huddle together with your squaddies and find a way to beat him.
KJAM 0 Posted June 12, 2007 The thing that annoys me the most is when, for example, on Bezerk Airfield, people get tanks and put them in the hills west of the airfield and then do nothing but strafe the airfield, meaning anyone trying to spawn there or get near there is pretty much screwed. Theres a difference between holding your position to deny it to the enemy and camping.
max power 21 Posted June 12, 2007 LOL nope, that sounds like an excellent tactic. Kudos to those guys, especially since anyone can spawn with a javelin in that crazy map.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted June 12, 2007 When someone is 'defending a certain location' (camping as you call it) and you cannot kill him with infantry charges, why not call for some tanks, air support or artillery and blow the son of a bitch to hell? If the mission does not allow this: Go play a decent mission which actually uses the power of ArmA, FFS, this isnt CS EDIT: @KJAM, who the hell spawns on hard to defend flat ground without any cover? Thats just asking for it...
KJAM 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Actually, In my opinion it's a pathetic tactic, and usually you can never get close enough to use Javelins without someone plinking you. Especially if 3 or 4 tanks are around a similar area too.
max power 21 Posted June 12, 2007 Heh. The pathetic tactics are the unstoppable ones.
walker 0 Posted June 12, 2007 MORE CAMPING! It anoys the BF l33t whiners and kills lots of Rambo Run and Gun noobs too. Excelent! Till they learn real Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures. Then they know to work as a team use armor/snipers/MGs to provide overwatch. Air units do a CAS attack then rush the target with a heli landing or well driven ATV. That is why we play ArmA, that is why Berzerk is so popular, that is why they need to learn Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures. http://dslyecxi.com/armattp.html And stop being BF numpty l33t whiner noobs. Till then MORE CAMPING! Kind Regards walker
InqWiper 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Camping is only really effective if the other team sucks. If they have 1 good player he will probably take you out. Ive managed to camp through a whole 1h berzerk without dying in my tank. I had to go back to base and change tank because I was hit like two times and ran out of ammo though. If I had been on the other team and saw someone camp like I did I would have made it my mission to satchel his ass. Really simple.
KJAM 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Quote[/b] ] @KJAM, who the hell spawns on hard to defend flat ground without any cover? Thats just asking for it... Guys who are desperately trying to defend a location from an enemy attack but don't want to start off hundreds of meters away? Like I said, I don't mind people tactically holding a position, but there are differences between that and camping. And To walker... I am far from a BF l33t Whiner (never got into the BF Series) Nor am I a Rambo Run and Gun, but for me, doing stuff like I have previously described, quickly takes the fun factor out. walker 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Hi all In reply to KJAM The best form of defense is attack! If you are defending a point without eliminating enemy on high ground overlooking your objective you deserve all the death you get. Learn to act as a team, have plan, choose a leader. Frankly I would be embarrassed to admit I could not work out what the tactical objectives were. Kind Regards walker

Now im not that fimiliar with berzerk and i cant remember what type of respawn it has, it doesnt sound that hard to take out the campers though. 1 team just keeps the campers busy, while the other team spawns further away and flanks the campers. As campers usually suffer from serious tunnelvision you may be able to take out multiple campers in an organized attack without much (if any) casualties. Come on, this is ArmA, there are so many possibilities.. At least try to use them

I can and do work out the tactical objective, I never said I couldn't, I merely said that people who act like I described annoy me. Frankly, I'm annoyed at your presumption on how I play the game. Guilty as charged. Don't like it don't spawn there. Return to your AO and run your sorry behind back. Denying you the ability to spawn there is one less soldier My squad has to worry about while capping that location. Its called over watch.

Actually had a really good AIRFIELD at night game last night ( loving 1.08 ) yes there was the " OMFG you gay camper " spam, but appart from that, me and two other SLA buddies patroled them hills, East? West? East i thought, of the support centre waiting/knowing the yank tanks will soon roll over the edges from their main base. The other two guys were a bit of a better aim with their rpg's than me though! You also can hit the guys lit up by fires at the radio station and hangers from them hills to Ive never played that map at night before, and with options turned up a little more due to the 1.08 patch, it looked freaking awsome with all the tracers explosions etc
KJAM 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Meh, I guess I'll just stick to playing Coops with my clan since those seem to be enjoyable. I'd appreciate people to stop pretending that they know anything on how well or how I play Armed Assault. Last words: As I said, There is a difference between Camping and tactically holding a position, and I enjoy trying to outfox those who are tactically holding a position. russin 0 Posted June 12, 2007 shouldn't the post say "Start Camping" if ya can't beat them join them do to others as they do too you.... and do it with a smile
frederf 0 Posted June 12, 2007 This is why I mostly avoid Berzerk like maps. The free flow of blood and equipment guarantees unrealistic game play. Spawn in 15 seconds, unlimited M1A1s? Right, yawn. As far as "camping" goes, the difference between proper tactics and camping is an easy one. Camping always involves a spawn point. It involves a game play device that is very far removed from reality. "Sir we cannot approach their position. They are holed up in the hills and buildings very well." That's reality. That's fine. "Sir we cannot spawn at our base. They are across the river with a machine gun gunning us down as we spring into existence." That's camping. That's not fine. The problem with Berzerk like maps is the scale of the conflict. 100 AH-1s and 10 Su-34s and 100 T-72s all on a 10x10km island. It's a knife fight in a phone booth. Of course any fixed base is going to get raped.
max power 21 Posted June 12, 2007 If you are getting owned in your spawn just choose to spawn in a different location. It's pretty easy. We get this conversation all the time in il2. Base capping is all good as long as your opponents have a choice as to where they spawn. You may not be able to spawn in any given place. If you keep getting roasted as you spawn, it's a good indicator that you have lost that section of the map
