BlackScorpion 0 Posted April 13, 2007 Javelin MANPADS? *edit* answered Starstreak, too, first... wtf is going on here?
orson 0 Posted April 13, 2007 you can use the Javelin in air defence role ?
Messiah 2 Posted April 13, 2007 that's what it was initially designed for, and as far as I'm aware it's still capable of doing so. that picture doesn't look like either though - if it is the starstreak, then the configuration of the launchers has changed, and the sighting system has gone since I last saw it. Johannes 10 Posted April 13, 2007 its a javelin as it is beeing used by the canadian army. the one who has got it first can go on :P

Messiah 2 Posted April 13, 2007 hehehe, I'm used to seeing the javelin in it's more chunky man portable, AT role - that's what made that a hard spot to be honest - I know I jumped for the starstreak answer as well at first.
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted April 13, 2007 It is a Javelin yes, but not the one you're thinking of Orson and Messy. Javelin was the name of the portable air-defense missile system the UK used before Starstreak (edit: aparently there was somet called Starburst between the two as well, though I've never heard of it, and I'm fairly sure we were still using Javelin as late as 1996). AFAIK it was an improved version of Blowpipe. The AT Javelin we're using now is a completely different animal, the two aren't related in any way. They just have the same name. ran 0 Posted April 13, 2007 Yup, call me old-fashionned but I'd just have called those "blowpipes"

ran 0 Posted April 13, 2007 I am still correct that the current AT Javelin was first created under the pretence of being a AA weapon? I don't think so, it's a relatively long way from a MANPADS to a top-attack large caliber antitank weapon. IIRC, the Javelin AT is a LM/Raytheon product and was ment to be a replacement for the Dragon.

Ironsight 1 Posted April 14, 2007 Fiat Punto ? Nice try but not even close
Sc@tterbrain 0 Posted April 15, 2007 With the beefed-up armour its hard to tell. Best Guess: Panther Command and Liaison Vehicle (CLV), Light Armoured 4x4. (deignation may vary slightly from Panther 486, FCLV, or MLV?) Looks like it was fast tracked and altered some so the British would have a light armoured vehicle along the lines of an armoured Hummer. Theres sure alot of armoured 4x4's being developed suddenly. Â With all that extra protection slapped on its hard to tell if its a CLV, a NIMR, or a RG32-M on roids. Â With a few inches of plate and ballistic glass it could have been a freakin Fiat Punto when they started. Â

DaSquade 0 Posted April 15, 2007 So close to the trued. I was able to track the pic down and as i thought it was shown at IDEX 2007 show in the biggest Middle East Arms fair in the United Arab Emirates. Sadly i just couldn't find the name of the vehicle in question: The armoured car . So wild guess: AM General USA M113? (as that name shows in the demonstration list of US sellers)
-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted April 15, 2007 Fiat Punto ? Â Judging by the shape of the turret, it's the super-armored all-terrain mobile air traffic control tower version of the Fiat Punto!
