Dr.Rebus 0 Posted January 24, 2008 If you need to do Italian forces (famous in battle in Tobruk and El Alamein with Germans and Brits) I could help you in textures. I've various jobs done with Indy in I44's times (OFP). http://www.revgraph.com/i44if/
belgerot 33 Posted January 25, 2008 Very nice job for a WIP screen. The proportions, especially the arms and legs look great, good job so far!
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted January 25, 2008 Is he a further development of the figure you showed us earlier in the thread? I must say this one looks much better than that one did. Are you also doing a similar guy in a Stahlhelm? You may be aware of this already, and I understand that it's a work in progress, but the mag pouches are missing a detail. The MP40 mag pouches were issued as a pair, with the set for the left side incorporating a small pouch for a magazine- loader tool, weapon spares and cleaning kit. In case it's of any help, here are photos of an accurate reproduction: front (beware; they are posed misleadingly in this photo; the set that fits on the left side of the wearer's belt is shown  on the left in the photo and vice versa) rear (note how simple the attachment is; just slipped onto the belt and hooked up to the shoulder yoke). This one is brand new, made from recycling the BI soldier. Gah, a lot of work there. Yes, an m40 helmet is in the makes. I wasn't aware of that, so thanks for the heads up. I've yet to complete the webbing, I still have to do the Y straps, but I'm not sure if I should make them. :P.
Benoist 0 Posted January 28, 2008 Yay! News from, posibly, the best ArmA mod! Just one thing i have to said: I don't know if it's possible, but you should (try) to do the bolt cycling manual. I mean, push 'R' (or another button) to do the reload because would be pretty annoying to be or advancing and fire a shot and then being totaly exposed for 1-2 seconds. But that could carry to many problems for the clip reloading. But the real problem is going to be the AI soldiers... they are going to be VERY vulnerable if the anim stops them. You wait for their shot and then you kill them.

You wait for their shot and then you kill them. Thanks for the compliment, but this is hardly a mod at this time . I've yet to actually finish one side. So don't speak too soon. The whole anim deal is what I'm trying to avoid, in ArmA it's only possible to shoot on the move while walking, and one can walk in 6 different directions(I don't know how many share the same anim) in 3 different stances, so 6x3=18. +3 for the static stand, crouch and prone. Making only the static ones and forcing the player to go to a static anim will really suck, as you've mentioned. That's why I'm mainly keeping the idea far as icing on the cake, as I don't have a clue how to make anims in ArmA or if there's a pipeline from Max/Maya to O2 to make things easier than making them frame by frame. As it stands right now, only the guns will have moving parts. As always, we'll see.
MehMan 0 Posted February 9, 2008 Happy birthday Burning Sands! It's been a year. A slow year. Oh well, I'm getting closer. Everybody say happy birthday Burning Sands or I'll hate you. Since he's a Jerry, shouldn't it be Herzlichen Glückwünsch?  IMHO the helmet might still need reshaped a bit (the bowl looks a fraction too large, which throws the whole thing off). His resi-case also looks a bit too small. The real M1938 Tragbüchse für Gasmaske was 24.5 cm long by 12.5 cm wide (from November 1941 they were made 27 cm x 12.5 cm, and the shorter ones were gradually withdrawn and reissued to second-line troops and reservists). For extra authenticity you could have the leather equipment painted tan or sand-colour (assuming you aren't giving them the tropical issue kit).
dab_burns 0 Posted February 9, 2008 I got one of these helmets in my room, an original rust and all. I think that helmet is a good shape but to small. Its to tight fitting to his head and should be looser

Col. Faulkner 0 Posted February 11, 2008 ...isn't funny that as soon as you say that you need help people suggest MORE work for you? If that was directed at me then know that I'm not suggesting more work just for shits and giggles, I'm suggesting (operative word) small corrections that'll either save him more work later on or increase authenticity. To his great credit, "MehMan" has expressed interest in getting his models historically authentic. I still think the rear flange of the helmet doesn't flare out quite enough, but it is only off by a fraction. It's "Mehman's" call, of course: And the respirator case does look more like a Japanese inro (in that published view anyway) than a gas mask case. The actual dimensions should help get it right. @MehMan. Do you have the "Osprey" booklet on WW2 German infantry equipment? If you need it, I can send you a scan of the colour plates that show the tropical equipment.

Quote[/b] ]I still think the rear flange of the helmet doesn't flare out quite enough, but it is only off by a fraction. Indeed, only by a fraction. If I pull it out too much I get the Star Wars trooper helmet. Might be just the angle, but I doubt it. it's a very small adjustment. Quote[/b] ]@MehMan. Do you have the "Osprey" booklet on WW2 German infantry equipment? If you need it, I can send you a scan of the colour plates that show the tropical equipment. MehMan 0 Posted February 21, 2008 Well here's a small update on the soldier, nearly finished texturing the gear, I've got a bit of paint to throw on or not and I'm not too pleased with how the MP40 pouches turned out. Still have to do the MG kit.

However i would add more Wear and tear to all the textures including the clothes. Especially the leather gets very rough after some time. Moreover the normal maps could use some tweaking i could be wrong with that though :P
