I wouldn't expect such a feature. While BIS is having trouble with Public Relations, they are not stupid. If there was such a feature like this, they would want to tout it. Features are not kept secret just for our community. This game is about reaching out of the community, thus if there was such a features as this it would have been mentioned.

It's already built-in OFP feature. Tho textures only.

OFP did have the destroyed ural model with bulletholes...quite likely it's just the model. Though, TBH, the bulletholes in the ural looks better crazy_o.gif It'd be a nice thing to add to the game, but if they were to add something like this, it would be dynamic destruction, therefor there BIS would most likely add dynamic destruction to building first, and since we've never heard anything about dynamic destruction in ArmA, I don't think it'll be in ArmA, therefor it's highly unlikely that this is also in the game.

However, it is possible that BIS did some simple damage model work or something like that, but I ain't holding my breath.

yeah, il2 has some good damage effects. They are totally unrelated to what type of projectile they are hit with, but it works. It works because you never really get a good look at what's going on, the fighter planes pass each other at nearly 1000 km/h an hour sometimes. It would have to be a much more subtle effect for ArmA, or you would need different kinds of damage statistics. It wouldn't make much sense, for instance, for a truck to be raked at point blank range with a machinegun for a while and suddenly be covered in explosive damage and buckled body panels.

I think Arma might have temporary decals that would vanish in several seconds. It might cause fps lag too.

It is actually possible by changing the textures as damage occurs. I have seen this in VBS on someones work. Shame he hasn't released it yet. However, it was a bunch of class II UAV's that showed bullet holes etc... So it is possible in VBS, sure also in ArmA and I'm pretty sure it will be taken to the next level in Game2.

I quote myself, as far as I know, you can define damage textures for each texture. For example, look at Mi-26 by OWP. Nothing very hard to do.

i couldnt say their doing a great job at that. -- even those looking for information have to hunt around and weigh up the rumour mill, i'd be suprised if many people who weren't already looking for armed assault have even heard of it.

I'm surprised actually, more people know about it or have at least heard about it than I would have thought. Don't forget ArmA along with Game 2 has been splashed across a few game magazines.

can we beliefe this thread now?

what do they mean with bullet penetration?

<ul>Update 15:30

Here some facts BIS confirmed and that i saw live:

- the smoke effects do look as good as they appear on the screenshots

- multiply gunner positions f.e. 2 Miniguns in the UH-60

- a working collision model

- buildings are now destructible

- bigger groups (more than 12 Men)

- Bullet-Penetration

- Leaning

- hold your breath to aim better

- etc.

I guess that only means that now you can't destroy tank or helo with just gunfire from assault rifle.

It calculates distances and weapon fired upon target.

Bullet penetration means that different materials wood, stone, metal etc have different properties. So you can fire a 0.50 cal MG through a wooden shack but not through a stone building. A pistol might penetrate sheet metal but not 1in(2cm) armour plating.

We don't know if it includes bullet decals, especially not for moving vehicles. So whether that truck always has those bullet holes, who knows?

I doubt that objects (cars, building etc) will get bullet holes in them. I don't think that the engine is capable of it without a modder's loving touch.

It was possible in games as early or even earlier than quake 2. It's likely that the engine is capable but that performance issues may mean that it isn't included. In smaller games you only have to worry about a couple of hundred bullet hole decals, in Arma there may be thousands.

And besides, those holes are most likely supposed to be corrosion and not bullet holes...
