meyamoti 0 Posted June 21, 2006 Hey guys I just noticed something strange,in terms of shadows. http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1829/839hz.jpg Look here, notice the shadows? http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/9791/land050a0227df.jpg Now look here, keep your eye on the building shadow. http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6121/armademo58yj.jpg Same as above,it seems that buildings have soft shadows but not all objects. BUT look at these two. http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/3802/armahires067ik.jpg http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/8769/armaofpcde23ol.jpg Sharp 3D shadows right? Now look at this. http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7582/armed055vn.jpg Note how all of the shadows are soft. Now correct me if I am wrong, but the last photo was released prior to E3. Is this a bashing? No not at all,yet another curiosity strike, wondering why BIS would hide such things in the demo, unless the demo was made before that image and what we may see as the 'new' demo may actually be a few months old before 2006 E3. I can only sum up three possible explanations. 1. Its the angle, however this is highly doubtful as the shadow from the BMP cannons would not be nearly as 'soft' as it appears. 2. BIS is once more hiding things 3. Our reviewers that got the demo didn't have their graphics high Its hard to say but I'm going with #2.

I think its a combination of WIP versions, and different settings for different pics
meyamoti 0 Posted June 21, 2006 Of course its WIP :P But the release dates and the order of when the pictures appeared as to what they show just doesn't sum up. Which leads to the second question, why show them at different settings rather than at the same setting?
stgn 39 Posted June 21, 2006 Is it posible that differences in how strong the light is and the distance has an in fluence on the shadow? STGN
meyamoti 0 Posted June 21, 2006 It could be...lighting in real life does that afterall, the closer the light the sharper the shadow, the farther the fuzzier...Hmm..

walker 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Hi all Have not seen this interview with Marek from a Czech business magazine posted here so here goes hope it is not old news. The background on the BIS business model is interesting Quote[/b] ]The Business BIS’ armed assault on PC gaming By: Brian Kenety, 12. 06. 2006, More by this author It’s the year 2010 and heightened tensions across the globe have led to the creation of an international military force to be dispatched to hotspots in Europe, Asia and beyond. You, solider, are part of that force; and whether that mob of villagers circling your unit takes up arms or disperses quietly depends on your next move. Welcome to “Armed Assault,†the long-anticipated spiritual successor to Bohemia Interactive Studio’s (BIS) “Operation Flashpoint†the best-selling computer game ever to come out of the Czech Republic, and the 2001 top seller in huge gaming markets like the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany. Considered the first “realist†tactical action simulator, “Operation Flashpoint†(OF) sold over 1.7 million copies within a year of its release. It pushed the real-time 3D graphics and artificial intelligence envelope to such a degree that it even caught the eye of the U.S. Marine Corps, and BIS, an independent game development studio founded by brothers Marek and Ondřej Å panel, now competes with the likes of engineering giants Boeing and SAAB to outfit real-life armies with combat mission and other training software. “We invested most of the revenues [from OF sales] back into the company and had the luxury of being able to work for two, even three years, as a kind of nonprofit, focusing on nonstandard graphics and AI [artificial intelligence] applications,†said BIS director Marek Å panel. “We’re no longer exclusively a gaming company, and have developed highly specialized [training software] for the U.S. Army’s [sikorsky Aircraft-made] Black Hawk, and other helicopters.†... http://www.cbw.cz/phprs/2006061208.htmlFollow the link for the full story I have not posted the full article but there is some quite interesting things to see and at least one dodgy calculation by the author. I almost always only post part of an article then you folow the link to see the real article. That way I do not feel I am breaking the authors copyright as it can be considered fair use. Kind Regards Walker

klamacz 448 Posted June 22, 2006 I think there is some new infos. I'll try to translate edit: 1. arma press demo is secured by StarForce and 3 serial keys 2. arma press demo is 2GB big 3. it has 2 singleplayer missions nad 'tactical view' (propably map), where you cane show some places of the map in small window with 3d, rotatable view 4. there is some problems with ladder animation (going up and down on ladders), propably its just lack of these anims 5. more realistic weapon recoil (player was using M4 and noticed that shooting is more difficult) 6. In those 2 missions fights was mainly close combat and MOUT. "In first mission of this beta version, we (team) had to clear specific location from enemy infantry. It reminds me Rainbow Six, where enemy infantry elimination rested on taking flank position and surprise them. (...) Enemy, who is surprised by our assault, panics, then we see him close by (25m) as he is trying to hide in bushes or is looking for his friends support." 7. Taking weapon from dead enemies is instant. There is no crouching and taking, just click and you have new weapon in hand. 8. There is no fast crawling. When you are lying on the groung and push 'q' key - character is going up and run. Its somewhat dangerous for OFP players who is familiarized with fast crawling and use it often in combat. 9. There is some changes in AI command menu, some commands was removed, some regrouped. New command is 'Watch', used mainly in patrolling. 10. There is hardpoint, defined by BIS, where and when you can switch your character. After switch, your previous character is controlled by AI. 11. There is some problems with AI using vehicles, like -in multiplayer model player commanded two AI soldiers to get inside Humvee. They finished standing on top of vehicle 12. Driving and flying physic model is improved. Driving is fine, propably because more smooth terrain. Flying is more dynamic, you can perform faster actions and maneuvers (player was flying Littlebird). 13. There are new enviromental sounds and speeches. sorry for my poor english and if some of informations are old
