we aim to release plenty of media to everyone between now and the time the game is published

*gnaaa*

Want more info on the game. Would also be an important move in my humble opinion, as today a game's success is often part of its pre-release-hype. And everyone on these forums wants AA to be a success, I guess. confused_o.gif

Sorry BI, but I have to say my opinion:

OFP is alive since more than 4 years. I've been playing this game, for more than for yours. I played the demo so often, that I could talk instead of my teammates.

And now I'm sitting here, bored. I just put all my OFP Icons and Links into an extra folder and moved it into the regular "Games" folder. Why? In german I would say "The air is out". OFP has reached its limits, and that's quiet qood, for such an old engine. I mean, is there any game, you can compare? No.

But. My trust in you, which I built up the last years, fall rapidly in the last months. Because of what? Information. The only real thing I know about ArmA is, that it will be kind of OFP and that it looks a bit better. Ahh, and that I have JIP. That's all.

If feel somehow betrayed. I even don't know, what the name of the publisher is. And you say, the game will be released in Q4?

You close all threads in these forums, which include suggestions, because you say, the game is in a status, in which you can't implentate them anymore. Ok, I'm really not in the position, to judge about this answer, so I expect it to be all right. But damn, why don't you release some specific information? I thought the game is in its final status. Uhm.... yes.

I say again, I love your work for what you have done, for the com. And I love the work, the com did for this game, and is still doing for it. But I have to say, that you have to give the com also something back for its loyality, and that's more as just "There will be a sequal in this year. Yeahh.... somehow in this Q"

Understand what I mean? smile_o.gif

Nce post there m8.

Seems like you pulled this right out of your heart. thumbs-up.gif

Should be cool if BIS revealed some more info.

ecouse i they say the game is in its final status , what is that wrong with showing something to us.

What i would be glad to see is some more info on the website , like unit description that will be in the game (heli , airplanes , vehicles , weapons, etc etc) ,just like u did for OFP.

Anyway keep up the good work BIS!! thumbs-up.gif

There are ups and downs to not giving info, for instance the less people know about the more they don't know when they buy it (till they read the box) so they wait eagerly after the install and get blown away by the suprises.

Although knowing everything is kind of good it also takes out suprises.

Is it just me or companies that advertise too much turn out a very low quality product.

Look at BF2. It was very advertised, but it turned out sucking. Alienware make top of the line products, and you barely see them advertising. On the other hand look at DELL, there's not a movie passing by without at least 2 dell advertisments. And guess what? Dell PC's suck. The same thing with most movies.

So advertisment means nothing to me. I bought more quality products from companies that don't waste money on advertisments.

Yeah,I played BF2 and it rather pushes lighter PC's away, for instance to get any of the shaders and such your lighting has to be set to high, wonder why theres a medium then? Sure BF2 was advertised alot but the only thing that saves its arse is the shaders and such.

advertisement is a different story ..

i suppose that BIS just cant talk really about the facts because they are not yet permanent and complete - in terms of a mod/addon/script/mission-maker it does only make sense to get information about possible changes and adaptations when they are final.

on the other hand i do understand the feeling of a lot people entirely.

if you do look at the posts in the ArmA forums, at the beginning there were several full of expectations and interesting discussion like about JIP ... those days there isnt much left of it huh.gif

for me it comes down to the main point about getting more infos - in depth ones - not those superficial piece of informations crazy_o.gif

hopefully BIS does take the right path icon_rolleyes.gif

What catched my interest in OFP was an E3 movie (or something like that) I saw once. That is the reason why I downloaded the demo on my 300 Mhz, 64 MB RAM, Voodoo 3 2000. It barely ran, but what I saw of it was enough to make me get a new computer faster, so that I could play it. It was the perfect mission chosen for the demo, and it really showed what Operation Flashpoint is all about. And with the (unofficial) release of a map editor, a lot of other missions were released too. This of course made me get the game as soon as it was released, and since then it has almost never left my hard drive.

But with Armed Assault we have a press release giving a bit information, a few very nice screens, and an, in my opinion, not very informative interview. If you want to sell the game to other people than OFP fans, you should really release some videos or something to renew the interest in the game. There are a huge market for realistic and tactical military/war games, and with the latest Rainbow Six game going away from this, maybe you have the opportunity to get some R6 fans to go over to OFP smile_o.gif

It'd probably be best to make a new thread about this problem, but we all know what might happen then wink_o.gif Just kidding, I understand that suggestion threads and similar threads get locked, I have no problem with that.

@Stealth3

This isn't about advertising, this is about getting only a bit of information. I don't want BIS to scream about the place"Here is ArmA, it's great, it's cool, it has all the XY stuff, buy it when it's out."

We want some real information, because without all the players playing OFP in the past, the game would have disappeared into nowhere in a few month.

And what do we get? A forum, in which questions are not allowed and a pressrelease, which could have been for OFP, too. confused_o.gif

advertising is good in that the more people that hear of the game the more potential people there are to buy it.

and the more people that buy it the more money BIS has to spend on shiny cars, big houses and game 3.

i'd like to see more hype that sells the game more.

PS - i really would liek to also see a few more screenshots. and a kick arse movie. hopes. lol.

Wasted time publishing vs over development (not enough sharing of information) is a hard thing to balance, but I would say it is difficult to release information on a large scale (I doubt they would give just a little piece just to us, and not to all the major gaming news sites such as gamespot, gamespy, 3dgamers, etc., etc.) without a proper publisher. While I sure as hell would like some more information (duh) I doubt we will get it until they have a publisher decided and in place solidly.

As placebo would say, "wait. Information will be shared when the time comes."

Caz

P.S. Although, it probably would not be a bunch of effort to just make an ingame movie or something. Oh, and btw, I didn't know one thing about OFP until I stumbled into Target one day and said "OH! That looks interesting..." and look where I am at, 4 years later. That speaks for itself. Hype != good game. If you advertise poo, it's still poo. (But damn! Information would be nice! GRR! lol)

EDIT: Wow.... typos whistle.gif

Advertising is a publishers job meaning, no publisher no ads.

I guess would like to keep the information to a minimum, since piblishers like to start on a game "from scratch" so they have an influence on what comes out and what does not.

Tough for us

Good point, didn't think about that. But in that case they should hurry to get a publisher smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]they should hurry to get a publisher

They are already in contact with a variety of possible publishers.

I guess patience isn´t such a bad thing for us as the price , marketing and support will be very important things that need to be fixed with the publisher. So maybe a little bit more patience now will save us users of ArAs from a whacky publisher. Quality matters, for BIS it always did and they never sold a product overprized or left us unsupported.

Heads up folks, I´m sure BIS will not fool us or go for a cheap money-shot like other developers do. wink_o.gif
