Thunderbird 0 Posted August 18, 2005 Trust me buds , the new incoming FFUR pack won't be lagy like their ancestors
bushlurker 46 Posted August 18, 2005 @Airborne Alcoholic... There's a LOT of things in OFP that can affect FPS - to make a test absolutely fair you'd need to decide on set values for things like view distance, level of terrain detail, screen resolution, whether DXDLL is on, and if so, what parts are switched on (I get about a 15FPS drop when I turn on full processing and reflections, whether there's water in sight or not)... and above all - a test mission that everybody has... I did something like this a while back when I compared Y2K3, FFUR and EECP, but that was a year ago and the post is probably long gone... so here's a quick check I did with all the crap I've currently got installed... System: P4 3.0Ghz 1024Mb Ram GeForce 5700LE 256Mb Graphics 1280x1024 Screen Resolution OFP Main Settings: DXDLL full on Terrain Detail: High View Distance: 1200m Textures: all on 1024x1024 Mission: Steal The Car In all cases I played the mission to the end and kept an eye on the average framerate (usually didn't vary more than a point or two throughout) Mods Tested & Results: Y2K3 - 23fps FFUR V5.0 - 21fps ECP 1.085 - 27fps (only unit replacements done so far being the new RHS naval infantry replacing the standard rusky grunts) FDF - 23fps (not entirely fair, since their version of Steal The Car is on a different island, I think) CSLA2 - 23fps So all the mods I've tried are much the same... the new ECP is slightly better, but a fairer test will be the new E:ECP when it finally arrives. FFUR 5 fared a little less well than the others, but Tbird assures us all he's done a little fat-trimming since that version, so I reckon it's gonna be just fine... However, I remember Pappy from Y2K3 saying a while back that 15 or over was fine in his opinion and I tend to agree - If you can have total FFUR mayhem going on all around you and not go below about 15fps then you're sorted and don't really need any more... I'm so hi-detail the only time I see 30fps or more is in the editor! but it looks gorgeous and it's more than playable enough... I get lag principally when there's lots of polygons AND explosions all visible at the same time, (50-odd ORCS hi-res Ruskies and calling in an heavy airstrike at the same time dropped me into single figures) so I'm now gonna go try the exact same thing with Battlefields or some other larger scale stock mission and see if things are any different... I'll post a (much shorter) report when I'm done... B
456820 0 Posted August 18, 2005 i dont know why but when i get my FPS in the top left corner i was using the new ECP 1.085 no DXDLL with msn messenger running i got 15FPS and the game ran fine it didnt seem laggy ive got either a 1.8 or 2.2 GHZ comp i dont know much about it but i dont seem to encounter much lag at all even though my FPS are rather low but i get no lag well weve been told FFUR wont lag TB said he blew up a ton of tanks and could still watch in good FPS so dont wory about it
Reven 0 Posted August 18, 2005 http://files.filefront.com/ffur50/;4016590;;/fileinfo.html Dont think it's the same thing (It would have woodland/desert/winter before it if that was the case, or it'd be a lot bigger), but oh well :P - Ben That's the beta version of 5.0 we released ages ago. Filefront are just mirroring it.
xnodunitx 0 Posted August 18, 2005 Maybe test it using FRAPs benchmark thing (Logs FPS and then works out an averge) - Ben Problem with fraps though is it makes the frame count lower than it actually is,I ran OFP one day with fraps,no recording no nothin it seemed to run a bit slower, then I rain-err ran it without and it was faster,me I expect to get some lag cause I'm over here usin the new skies, animations, dxdll on full effects and so on but to me lag isn't really an issue. Thunderbird 0 Posted August 18, 2005 Quote[/b] ]FFUR V5.0 - 21fps Yeah FFUR v5.0 (Beta) though It was using a lot of scripts like "soldiers talking/soldiers surrendering/tracers/smoke for riffles/handcuffs and few other ones"... -> All these scripts have been removed = Lag reduced by half ! So you can expect a fps definately higher than 21 Best Regards Thunderbird84
bushlurker 46 Posted August 18, 2005 Yup! Sorry TB - perhaps I didn't make that very clear... that result was with the original FFUR 5.0 BETA pack that was released a while ago... As I did say - I'm expecting better performance from the new multipack with all the cool but unnecessary extras you mentioned taken out - even so, for my machine and with such high graphics settings, I rarely had below a solid 20fps even with the old pack - it runs just fine for me... and I shouldn't really even have counted the current ECP since apart from a couple of guys here and there, there's no replaced units in there - it's ONLY scripts, so it was bound to show a little higher than the rest... xnodunitx 0 Posted August 18, 2005 I just don't understand some people,20 fps seems pretty fine to me
Stealth3 0 Posted August 18, 2005 It seems the interpretation of "lag" is different from person to person. But I played a mission with the old FFUR effect pack where you had to stop armor coming in the city using a chopper. It was playable until you get near the action and there are less than 4 destroyed vehicles around. Than it gets unplayable. Playing steal the car or testing it on desert island isnt an "accurate" testing. My system: P4 2.66 GHZ Geforce 6800 gt 1 gb of ram I play ofp at about 1000m view distance, terrain detail on low and the other details at about 6-8. Also the resolution is 1024*768. And DXDLL on default. I usually have the FPS meter up all the time, and noticed that when you destroy a vehicle, because of the effects, fps can drop from 10-30+ digits. I was testing it on desert island with two units on so I was getting about 60 FPS. You guys seem to think I have something against FFUR. Well, I have nothing against it, Im just saying there is a problem and it needs to be fixed and I wonder why everybody just ignores the problem and starts praising FFUR or spaming the forum to let us know how much they are dieing to play the new version (than coming back here and wait for the next one). And for those of you saying you get high fps, play a mission where you need to fly and destroy some vehicles. And it should be on nogova or everon. I really wonder what your fps will be... Some of you might consider my arguements harsh and they probably are, but in this world harsh arguements do make a difference.
xnodunitx 0 Posted August 18, 2005 how does the fps ticker in the video options menu change anything? I never messed with it because I was afraid to mess somethin or can I get better fps if I mess with it?
CanadianTerror 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Quote[/b] ]I wonder why everybody just ignores the problem and starts praising FFUR or spaming the forum to let us know how much they are dieing to play the new version No doubt, it hardly leaves any room for your constant complaining about your FPS. You know what you're doing, unlike me I should probably leave it to you to test the upcoming FFUR, after all you do have far more results than me. I thought a good testmap would be the first combat mission of the OFP campaign. It has a several squads, a few tanks and air support, a fair mix of units and vehicles and scripts (like cutscenes, radio etc). But testing the Battlegrounds should be interesting, ECP tends to slow down significantly (in my game) when there are around more units, while FFUR tends not to change. We'll see for sure in the final result.

Sarge6754 0 Posted August 19, 2005 "Battlegrounds" is a single-player mission in OFP. It has quite a few units on screen.
