mr burns 132 Posted May 12, 2005 Hi,For Gizmo mapping: Ofpec tutorial Regards, Sander thx, sad to see it´s o2, never been good at that  I did a quick test using the VBS1 texture and gizmo mapping to check out how it could look..http://img49.echo.cx/img49/237/headvbstex6xx.jpg Keep in mind though that I can't release it with this texture, but hopefully the new ones will be as good. lookin´good and before anyone asks, the face taxture is available at chiribaki.zive.net (hope it´s spelt right). so is it forbidden to release with exatly that texture or does the restriction count for the whole format (gizmo map?) ? edit: the link was almost right  http://chibaraki.zive.net/index.php
llauma 0 Posted May 12, 2005 Are you going to use only 1 head model and apply different face textures or maybe tweak some of the model a bit to represent a variety common in people , after all not everyone is perfectly carved as that pic   , i'd like a few variances as well would be good for the pack as they wouldnt all otherwise look the same facial bone wise. Not sure.. there are quite many different heads in work so that's not the biggest issue. The main thing we need to fix is to get a new face texture standard and making new ones. @Messiah.. I did it less long and I did check how much the neck actually does.. He got almost too fat but it looks better with the neck. Pic.. @Mr Burns.. I will use Gizmo mapping but I will use new textures. If we are allowed to use the VBS1 as a template on how the new textures should be arranged, it would be great so everyone knows what we need to make and they can start mapping their heads right away instead of waiting for us to agree on a standard format. I dont think it should be a problem to use the VBS1 format as long as we dont use any of the textures but it's better to ask.
belgerot 33 Posted May 13, 2005 That last shot looks very impressive, though the textures can't be used it still looks like it will create a new standard in OFP.

Heatseeker 0 Posted May 13, 2005 You will need alot of face textures to replace all the BIS ones, sounds like you got some tough work ahead. How would this work? Replace the heads on the BIS units or all of them (addons too)? Sounds great to me, good job .
USSRsniper 0 Posted May 13, 2005 Llauma Can you atleast show example texture? how it looks like not in game, with those faces you can create custom faces just as in standart BIS faces?

Replace the heads on the BIS units or all of them (addons too)? Sounds great to me, good job . Yes.. we will start by replacing the heads on the BIS units and the most popular addons. This is alot of work but it's not just to get my head into OFP but mainly to get a new face texture standard so people will be able to create units with heads that looks as good as the rest of the body. So once this project is done we will propably have several different head models addon makers can use for their units. @USSRsniper Mr Burns posted a link to the vbs texture earlier but here's a small example. It will work just as custom faces does right now but as you dont need to match the sides with the front it will be much easier to make great camo's and faces in general. Also as the current OFP face texture mirrors the sides which have a lower resolution than the front it can never look that good. You still need some skills to be able to make a nice texture but you wont be limited by anything else than your skills.
belgerot 33 Posted May 13, 2005 Wow that looks amazing, like you said it will be much easier creating custom faces now and they will look more effective once on the actual head. I've been using my own face as my custom face in OFP, and because of the old model it barely resembles me. I know with this I will have atleast attained the results I want. Looks very good, I honestly cannot wait..
sanctuary 19 Posted May 13, 2005 The texture warping remind me of some .tga file i noticed in some quake3 engine .pk3 files. Here is one from the first medal of honor if the size is changed to 300 % it seems to match the face in Mr Burns screenshot. I suspect that kind of texture warping can be found used in a lot of software. So even if making good faces is difficult, maybe asking some people that created custom faces for such games if you can use them for your head coul provide a lot of stock faces. llauma 0 Posted May 13, 2005 I did a quick test with sanctuarys texture.. It's better than I had expected considering the head only has a test mapping and I wasn't too precise when I copied and pasted.
sanctuary 19 Posted May 13, 2005 Not only it looks nicer than i thought, but it means that there is a pool of potentially compatible face textures somewhat important, as this kind of warping is vastly used.

Exactly, this is great news.. Perhaps we'll end up with more textures after the replacement than what we had before. I'll check other games how they handle face textures. Edit: The sad thing though will be that we wont have to old OFP faces left unless someone modifies them, but maybe it's time to let those boys rest so they'll be fit for fight when OFP2 arrives. fat_al 0 Posted May 13, 2005 I have tons of those type of textures from various games.
sanctuary 19 Posted May 13, 2005 Or maybe finding some people with a stunning ressemblance Return to Castle Wolfenstein seems to use the same technique of texture mapping. EDIT : not noticed the message from fat_ al as i was looking at pk3 file before hitting reply Quote[/b] ]I have tons of those type of textures from various games. That's good, i think Llauma great head model will not be "naked" for too long
fat_al 0 Posted May 13, 2005 Yeah, most of the ones I've got are from RTCW.
Matthijs 40 Posted May 13, 2005 International infantry 2 head modelFor now the texture mapping uses the original setup for OFP models, but volunteers for creating a different setup would be most welcome. It might be useful to define and use a common standard between the various new head projects. Yes, the new intinf2 will start off with default OFP faces, to keep things compatible, but a new template with extra detail and space for "new" body parts (bare arms for example) would be most welcome. As we have not yet set a standard for ourselves, it might be nice to share a common template. Contact me if you want to share thoughts.
FireflyPL 0 Posted May 13, 2005 Llauma you are best!! GReat work! I strongly support you on changing face textures on heads and get rid of old bis shity faces. My othe question is how would you make eyes on new faces? I ve seen VBS heads and I must say that eyes are extraordinary good part of the faces.

The eyes looks great because they are textured seperatly and they got a higher resolution than the rest of the face which gives the impression that they are very detailed
sputnik monroe 102 Posted May 13, 2005 This sounds great, replaceing all the original faces with new ones. You should try to figure out a way to convert the main characters over though, such as Troska,Blake,Nichols,Armstrong, Dimitri, Guba, and Hammer.
